  1. Well if you look at it from a policies point of view he breeched safeguarding regulations, he breeched data protection regulations and he breeched cybersecurity regulations (and the staff acceptable use policy) all at the same time. So the holy trinity of the three big things schools are held legally acountable for. So no maybe not misconduct. ......... ah yes that's it -gross misconduct!
  2. And a verbal warning for misconduct for the head of science?
  3. Not heared anything from unions. But your LA will be pushing for it as they want to save money on their own infrastructure and staffing so shoving everyone onto hwb is going to accomplish that dream for them. HWB have now also deligated HWB support to LAs as every question I've asked recently (say the last month or 2) the answer has been "please ask your local LA Team" Also - if you ever had dreams of being able to react quickly react to changing cicumstances in order to support teaching and learning in your school then those days are over with HWB. You get what you are given. The answer is no to everything extra you ask. I needed to set something up to cater for some external training that was a bit "last minute" - I am used to these last minute requests, perviously I would have been able to set everything required up in about 20 minutes. With HWB - 5 days of wrangling via email and then eventually the answer a flat no HWB does not support that. Welcome to the brave new world Wales where innovation is removed and you will just do what they say, how they say it, on the exact hardware and software they say you can buy. It also appears the future vision for IT support in schools is having a person that can change passwords and change toner cartridges and nothing much else - all other requests will have to be sent to LA level. This is a first line helpdesk technician role so where that leaves us network managers I do not know.
  4. Ability to ‘look outside’ – to continually learn about innovations in your field, new ways of doing things, and bring that learning into your work. So does that mean your not getting any paid for training in post?
  5. I've looked in an old GPO as we've moved on from that now - but these settings worked perfectly for like a decade teachers ran their on sims updates first thing in the morning. Create a GPO Give teachers or your teachers security group modify rights to: %ProgramFiles% (x86)\SIMS %ProgramFiles%\SIMS %SystemRoot%\sims.ini
  6. I am not fond of trusts but sounds like he's done a good job of improving things there according to that article, anyway.
  7. They can push it all they want we aint signing a new contract!
  8. Theres absoloutly no way I would ever send my passport to any software provider on behalf of my school. That's the most rediculous request I've heared.
  9. UK arm formed literally a month ago with one employee. Website looks good. The USA wing looks decent. Either way a bit risky when you can just buy a Tier 1 and know theat Tier 1 are gonna be there with drivers, spare parts and to help you in 5+ years time
  10. The modern minisforums mini pcs are pretty good. The GFX can do basic 1080p but not triple A at high settings. The 7945HX 32 core CPU they do is phenominal ive got one in my main rig and it ousted all of my previous high end CPUs and only uses 100 watts.
  11. Sadly no one has permission here - it all has to be done through the LA.
  12. Check they're not running at 100m/s. Aruba seem to be incapable of managing 100mb/s connections reliabily. If so - Try forcing to 1000 full duplex in the driver settings.
  13. Yeh had a quote/demo for Halo ITSM it was very good but sadly too expensive for this school. Lots of fortune 500 types seem to use it so it should have the features you need?
  14. I am jealous my lighting controller only has up and down
  15. Elsie you've broken your own rule about posting salary/pay grades??
  16. I agree it is confusing to start like you say you think to yourself am i restoring the whole server? Veeam could tidy that wizard up with a couple less clicks, and some clearer text but it's been like that for years so don't hold your breath.
  17. Hi you've got to next past the "Reson and summary" and then it loads the individual file browser for the job where you can select drives and files?
  18. None of that really solves the main issue which is no one in school is actually paid to be on call 24/7. The staffing side is what needs to be solved it doesnt matter if the system sends emails or phone calls there needs to be someone the other side to read the email or answer the phone.
  19. It's not an easy cop out it's the truth - This is a Safeguarding Lead issue not an IT issue. Ultimately it's the DSO's responsibility to a) decide/create the policy and b) use the existing safeguarding/wellbeing staffing to impliment the policy. Your job as IT support was to set up the filter and ensure the filter works. Which it does.
  20. I agree to be very warey about 1 man band MIS companies - they signed up to a few of those over the last 20 years and each one ended up dying/being dumped at some point. Stick with the big 3 or 4.
  21. Lovely that's awesome - cheers!!!
  22. Might be worth checking for possible keyboard shortcuts for opening new browser pages/tabs etc. It's possible the software has missed a way out as google are constantly changing things?
