Well speaking of @ICTDirect_Dave above - I've started playing Elite Dangerous last week again with a mate. Havent played for years and my account was mostly wiped - so it's kinda fun re-learning stuff.
  2. It's gone up over the last 3 years for sure. I guess every school that's lost a member of stff has tried to hire one on the old wage, failed, and then been forced to hire one on a better wage.
  3. Yeh if you've got technical qualifications then project management quals are probably what most would be wanting you to have moving onward and upward. Prince it up.
  4. Check the licencing - if it's all on core count/thread count then get CPUs with less cores but higher speed per core, so your getting more bang for your buck out of each core licenced. Given how moronic the licencing is now I would even consider single CPU rigs now.
  5. I was all virtual and had 0 issues for years but the LA gave us a server each and expected us to use it so I set it up as a DC rather than a door stop.
  6. TBH I only buy dell poweredge so i've never had to find out about bad driver support!
  7. Wow blast from the past -used to play RA2 actually in school IT suite (don't worry as a pupil) - we had the A Level computing suite which was the only room with decent PCs. Pentium 100s - flying machines back then. Many a good lunchtime game all of us in there, and the IT teacher used to turn a somewhat bind eye as it was better than us doing drugs stealing sweets or beating up other pupils
  8. Sure - I am just saying the LA are doing the project so make sure they do the work for the Swansea Schools as they're all earning the $$$$ make sure the tax payer is getting value out of that $$$
  9. Rather than each individual school pannicking, shouldnt the LA be planning all this out and making arrangments with Brombom for how everything is going to work during the transition?
  10. Probbly better off getting one if you can from the refurbished suppliers like bargain hardware, IT in stock, serversource etc etc
  11. A main short summary is. Fully integrated with google ecosystem so if the school already uses classroom your users will fly with it with virtually zero training. Easier to use for Pupils Easier to use for Teachers Easier to manage for IT Admins Cheaper As already said no real training implications as the layout of everything is so much easier to understand than MS products you can give a chromebook to a 5 year old and theyll just crack on. (try getting a 5 year old to join a teams meet or navigate onedrive stuff, etc). No real negative points that I can think of unless you desperatly love MS and desperatly hate Google.
  12. Hmm ok where we are the VI Service deal/provide all the specialist equipment (and support) as that specialist knowledge simply doesnt exist in most school staffing.
  13. Does your LA have a VI service that has experience with this kind of thing? Would be worth giving them a shout.
  14. Hey has anyone used Brisk Teaching – AI Assistant for Teachers extension on chrome? https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/brisk-teaching-%E2%80%93-ai-assis/pcblbflgdkdfdjpjifeppkljdnaekohj Seems to have a million users and the data part looks ok. Just wondering if any of you peeps got any opinions, got teachers asking for it. Cheers
  15. How do we know your not an AI model? Latest gen LLM model???
  16. Yeh didnt go with faceplates here at all as the cabling is too important/finicky at 4k 60hz on the big boards - not like in the old days when literally any old VGA cable would do!
  17. Sounds like you've got it nailed slugshead. Well done.
  18. Wow - how'd ya like them Apples!!
  19. Single LA Secondary 750 pupils 80 staff 1300 devices (windows PCs and 1:1 chromebooks) 2 IT peoples
  20. Yep everyone needs to put in device number and pupil number as that's frankly what matters - running 10 schools and looking after 100 devices is not the same as running 2 schools and looking after 3000!
  21. Fe fe chris waddle
  22. Aren't you supposed ot install an app/browser extension on the client side for that to work?
  23. The main issue in Wales has been the local authorities not providing proper access through firewalls and filters to actually deliver the e-sports courses. The PCs are the easy part! I know schools that have literally had to buy in a seperate broadband line because the LA refused to help. Atrocious. Totally ironic when Welsh Gov has been pimping e-sports left right and centre only for their sub-minions to be the people who actually stop it from working.
