  1. Yeh, I too thought it was gonna be a good story about battling for more technicians or more money or GDPR compliance. Disappointed to see it's a film.
  2. I never actually used solus - was still deploying patches the old fashioned way. 100% reliable (er...well always had the 1 random pc that didnt updat properly so 98% reliable i guess) Went from that to Connected so no more patches just worse perormance and reliability and usability overall.
  3. Raid 6 on anything with large spinning rust drives (backup servers etc) to allow for 2 drive faliures at at a time with resonable read and write speed (you could also use Riad 10 if you don't mind losing extra space) 2 x SSDs in Raid 1 on O/Ss SSD storage I still very unfashionably use Raid 5 in order to allow for one drive faliure at a time, significantly improve longevity of each drive (due to FAR less writes compared to Raid 6/60/Raid 10) You may lambast me at will
  4. Sounds good but doesnt actually help anyone affected who had they're data/identities cloned. If the £3 million went back to the 75,000 people affected it would be useful but it doesnt it just goes into random coffers and does nothing useful.
  5. It's not gonna happen - they're just milking everything they can out of the education market before shutting up shop. I give them 2 years max.
  6. No room at the top, for people who aint at the top of their game. It's a learning experience.
  7. Sure it sounds like it could work - just make sure everyone is acutely aware that those two rooms have zero privacy and to not discuss anything confidential in them. Maybe buy one to try it out?
  8. I would avoid until next year. But then I like 100% uptime.
  9. People think all our jobs are so easy and anyone can do it easily - until them up top have to do it themselves and theres the monumental eye opener - I've got 3 x SLT shadowing the cover manager and they're still confused. "agencies will be phoning me at 6am? What??"
  10. "If you have any IT questions or topics you'd like to discuss, feel free to ask!" " If you’ve got any IT conundrums or just fancy a chat, throw them my way!" I can tell straight away they're bots. No real IT technician would end an email with that kind of open ended invitation for more work!!!!
  11. Funny you should mention that I am actually looking at retraining as a lorry driver!!
  12. I would imagine you would need an amazon account and also to do some work on your firewall to enable it to contact home. Given that all alexa does is listen to everything you say all day and then transmit it all back to some random americans - I would say it's probably a bad idea to have them in school from a data protection point of view, possible even more of a bad idea in a special school where data lis likely to be even more confidential.
  13. Can't talk now too stressed *confused binary noises*
  14. I am happy to be a newbie again. At least people won't expect everything to be fixed instantly now!!
  15. WOW Fair play that looks amazing.
  16. Exactly! I am not gonna miss looking after 2000+ devices on a daily basis! Looking after one or two fryers is gonna be heaven!
  17. Got 130 Gen 4 and so far only screens cracked no O/S/MOBO faults touch wood. They certainly aren't quite as durable as the Gen2s of which I have hundreds still going.
  18. It's a shame but nothing lasts for ever. You've pretty much gotta throw ipads and androids out after 5 years due to o/s issues too. At least chromebooks are cheap, unlike ipads.
  19. Interesting. Here it seems teachers are all contracted till Aug 31s,t so so are we. I am looking forward to taking the fries out the fryer in mcdonalds later on in the year
  20. That's a bit of a weird date - or were you not 100% full time employed in the school holidays etc?
  21. Yep same happening to me, I've been here 24 years, my only job (straight out of uni). 31st August = terminated contracts. 1886 - 2025 RIP. Vitrual hugs. I've never had an interview in my life, when I came here for a visit I fixed 3 pcs whilst we were walking around during the visit and they said please can you start on Sept 1st? 😆
  22. Yes ive seen this issue on Win 10 and Office 2019 apps will sometimes randomly pause sometimes when your opening or changing a page setting sometimes when printing, never gotten to the bottom of it no rhyme no reason that we can find. It doesnt seem to be doing it on my Win 11 / Office 2021 image. Thank the lord.
  23. Used to do it in excel then tried doing it in office365 calendar now they do it in a google sheet which is easier and more accessible.
  24. Good luck Ned!!
  25. Well. If they remove your existing LA domain. I am categorising that as "forced"
