I'm having trouble getting the e-mail poller fully working (I've read the kb) In the e-mail poller section should the usernames be entered as domain\username or just username? And should the servers be IP, name or FQDN? Iam getting e-mails to our support group regarding SLA breaches, but nothing is being pulled in and no other notifications are going out. Cheers!

Our sixth form canteen sells Argies Coffee I'd never heard of it before, but it's the best tasting coffee I've ever had! You don't want too much of it though it's potent! I also had a coffee machine for Christmas, and a grinder for my Birthday, so I'm currently trying different blends! Haven't found out yet if Argies sell to Joe Public or just businesses

We're having the same issue with staff user areas vanishing on our 2008R2 terminal servers, and I haven't yet got to the bottom of it, I suspect it has something to with folder redirection and mandatory profiles. I do know when I unticked "grant user exclusive rights to documents" for our pupils (to fix another issue) it deleted their user areas. I haven't tried unticking both as suggested above though. I'm on leave now for tow weeks, but if I get chance I will remote in and try with a test account. At the moment pupils are okay and I have removed permission for staff to use the terminal servers.

At our last tech's meeting with our LEA(beginning of this month), the chair mentioned they'd only just realised schools did online exams.............. I think it wouldn't hurt LEAs/RBS to visit schools occassionally and see what goes on!

We've deployed 20 of the M80 in a room for our PE dept to use for coursework. As has been mentioned above, there is a central management console but as it takes less than a minute to setup each one manually I didn't even give it a look. We ordered the VESA mount kits for each one, I seem to recall a locakable VESA mount as well which I would recommend to anyone else thinking of these as I have found a few off the mounts. As also mentioned above, Matthew's support is great to, and if anyone is thinking of getting one on eval, it really is no obligation, and there seems to be no time limit as well!! I do wish I'd found these earlier, as we also have 100 Samsung SM711NTs which have been nothing but trouble. Apart from them not supporting USB drives, when I specifically stated it as a requirement when ordering (they run CE5), we also have trouble with the image corrupting on them. Our supplier is not much help, and Samsung will only replace them on a one by one basis, and so far their fix hasn't worked... I now use them with Thinstation which fixes the issues, until the SM711NT resets itself and goes back to booting from local storage not PXE.............. All Thin Clients run from a 2008R2 farm, though we only use DNS Round Robin not load balancing

I do try and do reboots, etc on the weekend, but I usually forget It's rare I do reboot during the school day, it's usually 4:00 on a Friday and there are very few teachers around then!! If I do reboot in the day it tends to be for something serious like a misbehaving server that if it doesn't get rebooted will fall over anyway, or when I've had toruble with backup exec and only a reboot seems to fix it! And these reboots get done at break or lunchtime - with notice.

I send out an email with what's happening, planned downtime, etc. I aim for monthly but if need be I do more often. I'm guessing people do read it, as I had a complaint one was a bit long and could I bullet point it in future! I just sent out a tips e-mail yesterday, in future though I may put a tip a week in our daily notice, more likely to get read that way!

I don't keep up with all the gadgets. We have a chunky CRT here, bought 6 years ago when I moved into this, my first house. We do have a Blu-ray player, simply because the missus DVD player and my 8 year old home theatre died at the same time. I went blu-ray as it was on offer, and means when we eventually get a nice new shiny HD TV we don't need to get a new DVD/Bluray player! My PC is at least 4 years old, the missus has a laptop which I bought for her 30th last summer - it means I get to use my PC when I want A teacher today made a joke about my phone, it's a Sony W810i, it does all I need, and some more, he was expceting me to have an iPhone or something similar. I did look at getting a smartphone a few months back and decided I didn't need one. I do however have 3 bass amps, 4 bass guitars and a guitar...

Ours is 10MB - I think, I'm sure that's the Exchange 2007 default, or could have been 2003 default which was kept when we migrated to 2007.......... I've no plans to increase this, 10MB seems enough for me at the moment!

It's my understanding (and experience!) that you need a CAL and a TS CAL for thin clients. With regard to Sophos, I tried only licensing our TS servers, but was told that we needed a licence for every Thin Client as well - I thought that would be the case, but it doesn't hurt to ask!!!

Exactly how I feel - except I'm about 10 years in IT! The most difficult thing when I first started was checking whether the processor was MMX or non MMX!

To be honest, I've never looked at the hits per day. If I get chance later I'll remote in and have a look (my teas nearly ready!!) I'm taking a very rough guess at probably anywhere from 250-350 concurrent connections via OWA. All the teachers have it open, most support staff and whenever I look down ABTutor, nearly all pupils seem to have OWA open as well! Use is increasing, nearly all school communication is done via e-mail and more and more staff are using it with pupils for marking work and sending tasks. We have 1200 pupils, around 110 staff (teachers and support), and 540 PCs/laptops/thin clients
