Well I have just redone our TS farm with the HP v5.1 UPDs and installed on our print server and so far so good! The true test will be Sept when the printers get a hammering again, hopefully thought this will be the end of the print spoolers falling over...........

Blocked for pupils, allowed for staff. Though currently all users have to enter credentials to authenticate against our LAs proxy so most staff are using the pupil credentials (I have manually input and saved the ID for those who HAVE to have youtube!), last time I gave out the staff IDs to them some passed it on to the kids........ I'm now looking at dansguardian (no money for SW unfortunately) in house to sort out the groups and access. We've had bandwidth issues when streaming media was allowed so that's all blocked now............

We use a mix of Axel, Samsung SM711NTs running thinstation (CE5 was on them but had no end of trouble) and some old PCs running thinstation. I haven't used the central config for the Axels yet as they took so little time to setup anyway! If we have any further requirements for Thin Clients I will be using old PCs running Thinstation or (preferably) Axel. I highly recommend taking up Matthews offer of an evaluation, you won't be pressured at all to buy or return in 14 days! I don't work for Axel, just a happy customer. I am however more than happy to receive any more ex demo clients they may have

Creating an msi looks like one tricky task, I don't fancy manual install on all teacher PC/laptops

I actually think that's the way most people think, I know I certainly am now! That was the way I used to think, and to a certain extent still do. I don't see us replacing our desktops anytime soon with Linux, but I suspect over time I may be moving more and more of our backend to Linux, and when we can moving to OpenOffice (SIMS and ECDL being a sticking point here!) But as you say, MS for education isn't expensive, Server 2008R2 and Exchange are almost for nothing, but it's quite an eye opener how quickly the CAL cost mounts up!

Must say I didn't look to closely at the new release as we've started deploying 6.3a already... Wonder if it's just a case of extracting the msi from version 7 and a straightforward upgrade via gpo? The good news is nobody is actually using it yet, and there's been no training or documentaiton given out yet! So version 7 sounds like a job for tomorrow!

Hi guys! I'm trying to follow through this thread and pull together the various scripts to enable our staff to easily use Truecrypt on USB drives on our school PCs and at home. I like the right click options,and it worked great on XP, but as above I'm struggling with Vista/7. Is it possible to get one script/inf to cover both scenarios? And what was needed altogether to get it working Cheers!

I used to wonder what the point of us having one was, it doesn't have speakers in the classrooms, only corridors, offices, etc and never gets used......... Until the holidays and then it has some, ahem, 'testing'. Pink Floyd sounds pretty good over it!

Sut Mae! It's not cheap, though I'm sure I've seen it for about £360-£380 Sim free. I just signed up for a contract after being on PAYG for many years, planning on using it in work for monitoring the helpdesk when out and about, it seems it can do rdesktop, and will also mean I can sit down in our front room at home with the missus edugeeking rather than upstairs on my PC! Fair to say, it'll be a bit different to my W810i!!!
