  1. A common problem, here and I'm sure everywhere else, is the constant "can you take x of the internet", quickly followed by "can you put x back on"..... We don't have ISA/websense/smoothwall etc in school, staff go through a squid box which puts in the proxy user/password for our LA ISA and forwards it on. With the forthcoming (hopefully) reduced costs for MS licensing I'm wondering if I got an ISA box installed could I use it to restrict access to certain sites for these troublesome pupils(they are put into a separate OU). The only other thing we use is ABTutor, which I don't think can do this.
  2. To some extent it's what we would like to do here, allow staff to use their own equipment. But as others know it isn't a simple task to do securely. Regarding the article, a good point is that having equipment at home for remote working does open the likelihood of family members accessing corporate data if the user doesn't log off! Then there's the support issue, no matter how much they talk about getting your own support contract we all know that it'll be the company IT dept who get the first call............
  3. Is Elvis really dead?
  4. It's quite a nice computational engine! I asked if I'm hot!!
  5. What is the Matrix!?
  6. Another vote for Spiceworks
  7. All good advice above, comfy shoes are a must! I've only been once, and recall feeling thirsty a lot as it gets quite warm (as mentioned above!) so taking a drink maybe a good idea
  8. It's our users own phones we allow (if they're provisionable), and apparently the one in question (a Sony Experian i htink) isn't upgradeable to 2.2.......
  9. Are you talking within activesync or with something else? I know Android 2.2 is provisionable but 2.1 isn't, which has caused a bit of upset here as I'm now only allowing provisionable devices..... if there's something else, and it's free, it may help me out!
  10. You can manage them to a certain extent with the activesync settings in Exchange or System Center Mobile device manager Pricing here, I've never used it though....
  11. Develop use of email - calendar, creating folders, rules, distribution groups, etc? Or basic PC troubleshooting (depends on users, and may be more use for teachers where kids have unplugged things!) edit - Drat, beaten to it!............
  12. It's an even better way to pass time if you play in a band! Bass it isn't the most exciting instrument to play on your own! I'm looking to fill in the gaps in my knowledge/ability. I've also had a look at the RGT syllabus, which also looks interesting........ There must be other Musos on here
  13. Has anyone any experience of the Rock School? I'm thinking of starting on it. I've been playing bass for 18 years in Jazz/Big Bands and shows, but never had a proper lesson! Looking at the syllabus it seems a lot better than when I remember from when it started up.
  14. ^What he said!!^ When we come to have a hardware budget again, and need to replace PCs, I'll be getting some more of these
  15. Yes, c:\users\public is not the first place I looked when asked to check a file......... I've got it working now so left it as it is, I live in hope that future updates are less painful
  16. Can you tell my sister that! I've done my fair share of nappies, feeds, etc with my Nephews! Still, all good prep for when our family addition comes along in May Congrats JPS, it is great fun. bit like being Grandparents (or so I assume) you can have all the fun then give them back when the witching our comes along and with it all the tantrums etc!!
  17. Is that a requirement, or just one of those things you come across as a way to get it working? BTL haven't mentioned this to me, I know the c:\users\public\secureassess folder needs at least modify access for everyone. I've had a nightmare getting the latest version working here - both server and clients! In the end I had to copy the secureassess folder from the one working PC to all the others...... We've now successfully run two familiarisaton tests today, but am concerned as to how the real thing will go next week!
  18. +1 to that. OT have you read Vulcan 607 great read!
  19. No argument from me on that!
  20. Wow, A+ certified in their 80s! Great to hear stories like that!
  21. We stayed at the Wentworth hotel about 2 1/2 years ago. I highly advise you to avoid it. The room was tatty, the owner had his own party in the (small) bar so if we'd wanted a drink we'd have been gatecrashing... reading a few comments online it seems things are still the same.....
  22. Damn, may as well cancel my Broadband subscription now then
  23. Spiceworks. Highly recommend it!
  24. Very jealous!
  25. It has to be one of the most irresponsible sites I've ever heard of! I'm attending an ecrime/esafety seminar on Monday, I'll see if they have any more information. If not, I'm doing the Ambassador training In January so I'm sure there'll be more info on it there!
