On the subject of second homes, I'm all for a halls of residence type place for them to stay when in London, if they don't like it they can pay for their own second home or get an early train!

Thanks for the suggestions. Just tried it, but still no luck. The problem is I can actually take a backup, but can't amend the backup job, I'm now, recently, also unable to restore work. I don't have any real alternative servers to migrate SQL server to either, and I don't know if I did if that would solve the issue - is the damage already done to the server as far as BE is concerned!

When installing, some time back, SQL 2008 onto one of our Servers I never checked whether backup Exec 12 supported SQL 2008 After many months of minor niggles such as not being able to edit a job without having a stack exception error, the niggles which I thought a reinstall during half term would cure have turned into bigger issues such as restore problems and the time has come to look into this. I have now discovered that backup Exec 12 does not like, at all, SQL 2008 on the same box Having no money in our budget for IT this year, the chances of getting an upgrade are pretty slim. Has anyone on here managed to get a workaround?

That's what I've done in the past, I've never tried migrating.

The latest issue happened first lesson this morning. The Terminal servers were all rebooted before school this morning, and I currently have the end disconnected session at 30 minutes and idle session at 1 hour. I will double check this is future though, in case the pupils have used thin clients during reg/previous lesson elsewhere and not logged out properly.

Hi, Sorry if this should be in Thin Client form, thought it was more of a 2008R2 issue! We're having random issues with users logging into our 2008R2 TS farm. Some users login okay, others sit for a very long time, or indefinite, with a blue background. They can ctrl+alt+del and logout but that's it. It's as if explorer doesn't start. I'm wondering if it comes down to profiles, folder redirection and drive mapping? We have a mandatory profile for all users on our TS. All users have a .bat login file (on all PCs not just thin clients) that maps the shared drives and home drive. Home drive is also set in AD, and we also use folder redirection. It could be time to rethink how we do this, but I'm reluctant to change anything during term time (unless it's definitely this), especially as we have experienced the deleting home directories that's been mentioned by some Windows 7 users. The event log on the Terminal Server typically shows something like this error The users folders do exist, and are accessible to them from Fat clients I'm getting a lot of flack for this from one member of staff.... Any help would be gratefully appreciated! Joe

Many thanks for the E-Mail poller KB. It's working now. Still have a few issues though - sorry! The support e-mail group is getting SLA breach e-mails, but not info on when jobs are received via e-mail or jobs closed. Users are also not getting an acknowledgement of their e-mail request being received or their incident closed as used to happen in MLH. The web config file looks all okay to me, but I must have missed something! Cheers

I think you're right on that. But could you 'turn it on it's head' and when they run out of credit, bill them for the pictures they've previously printed of latest favourite popstar or fast car!?

If you have the time/staff to do it then it won't hurt. We don't here, as with two staff and 540 PCs/laptops it would be a time consuming task, though with no budget for new equipment we may now have the time to do it! Cleaning off the RAM is one of the first things we do when called to a failing PC and quite often it fixes it, as happened recently on my home PC!

We find using the splitter cables does affect image brightness and quality - It does vary by PC make though. We now try and use cheap graphics cards where possible.
