Hi, I am looking for a software that can record voice to MP3 files, and can be easly depolyed to all computers in the school. Using msi or just by running it from a shared drive will be the best. I don't want to use Audacity as it requires each user to configure it to use the MP3 plugin, and also access to where the plugin is installed which is usually the C: drive, we don't give C: drive access to students. If there is one even a paid option that you know, I'll be happy to hear. Looking for something very basic and easy to use. Thanks

Not so much a 'How do you do... it?' but more a 'What do you do about... it?' I am noticing both staff and students making more use of the space they are provided with on my SAN. I to frequently hear 'I don't have time to sort that out at the moment, can you just give me more space?'.. Well, I like the weekly full backup to finish before start of play Monday morning... and well.. that just isn't happening. So further investigation in to just what is taking up all of this space it is apparent more staff/students are storing dvdrips/mp3s ripped directly from a dvd/cd - although admittedly not exclusively down to this problem. I have spoken with my LEA for advice on storage of movies/mp3s, two months later I am still awaiting a response. I have emailed Becta for guidance, similarly, two months later I am still waiting on a response. Chaps/Chapettes, where do we stand from a legal standpoint? How do you personally deal with this problem? You allow them as much storage space as they wish, regardless of how it is used? You have a strict policy against rips of movies/ripped cds stored on the network? I look forward to your responses!

Hi Guys, Heres the situation: I manage the audio/visual systems at my Church. We record the sermons on Sundays and then people can buy a CD or download from the website. We used to do this using a CD recorder as part of our sound system, but this has just died (or depending on how you look at it ). We want to replace it with a bespoke digital recording system that I am designing. Its going to be a PC with a professional audio interface, running some sort of recording software (probably Audacity, or anther free/cheap package). The main problem we are encountering, is the time and number of steps it takes the sound operator to finalise the audio, convert it to mp3, burn it to CD, and then upload it to the website. I want to write a script that will pretty much do all that in one go. What it needs to do is: Prompt user to input details (title, speaker, sermon series, date, etc) Normalise the audio and set volume level Create an MP3 with the relevent ID3 tags: title, artist (speaker), album: (sermon series), etc. and give it a relevent name (yyyy-mm-dd-speaker.mp3) Copy MP3 to network server Burn that MP3 as an audio CD Create a low-bitrate MP3 Upload low-bitrate MP3 to website (this part I will have to liase with hosting company) Thanks for any help you can offer. David

Hi all, I have a problem that I just can't seem to solve. We have a resident music station based at our site and they want to be able to stream from their website to the College computers, using the 'listen now' option from thier front page. I can't seem to get this to work. Media Player opens up and sits there for a couple of minutes, then reports 'Windows Media Player cannot play the file because a network error occurred'. The way I understand it is that the .m3u file just contains links to mp3 files. I have tried all the various proxy settings from WMP 'Tools/Settings', changed Security Settings in IE, and trawled the internet for answers, but no go. I have tried it on a Windows 7 system with IE8 and a Windows XP system with IE7. It works OK on my home system. Has anyone come across this before and been able to fix it? Thanks in advance for any help. Steve.

Ok I am not a big fan off lots of sites that sell music IE i like ipod but then have to buy downloaded music from itunes to be legal and play on ipod but now i have discovered play and they have a downloads bit tried it out and it work on all our mp3 players as it downloads as a MP3 (could not believe it and have not seen much publicity about it or is it just me being a hermit. I will admit they have not got much of a catalogue but I like it and its cheaper than itunes.

I've created a Group Poilcy ADM Template to configure the rip music options for Windows Media Player centrally. The idea is the teachers around the school will rip CDs as they get them and they'll be available to every classroom. Previous to this, if teachers ripped music, it was stored as protected .wma files inside their own My Documents folder. Creating a central CD server for Windows Media Player Feedback appreciated.

Does anyone know where I can get a plugin for Windows Media Player that will convert WMA files to MP3? I know I can use a separate program like iTunes but its for a friend to use and they are easily confused by using too many programs.
