  1. As we're on a big energy efficiency drive at the moment I got all excited at the thought of getting one of these, especially as we have comms cabs in the plant rooms with plenty of ports spare! Then I discovered it's only for England.................... Oh the joy of devolution..................
  2. We have Exchange 2007 on one physical box, dual quad core with 12GB RAM. It runs all the roles (not ideal I know!) and has about 1200 Mailboxes. Since upping the RAM from 4GB to 12GB it's been fine. With the exception of 3 of us all users access it via OWA, I think we have two staff who also use iPhones. Hope that's of some help!!
  3. Yep, but it's bleeding worrying when you first see it - I had one of those "Oh cr@p what's happened now moments when I first saw it"!!! Think it was actually with Vista redirections rather than 7, though we do have 7 now.....
  4. The school is growing year by year - started with just year 7 and now has years 7 & 8 - so there's a good chance there'll be more IT jobs in the future!
  5. Na, Ysgol Saesneg. W'nes I lefel a Cymraeg ail iaith tua un deg chwech blynwydd yn ol - My Welsh is very rusty now though! We're the new PFI school, the Welsh school (Ysgol Gyfun Llangynwyd) is our old upper school site. The head there is very IT literate so you could well be right about him!
  6. Hi Gareth, Easy enough, I had the how to from here last year when we wanted to broadcast our official opening. We use Windows Media Encoder on a PC and then send it to a server running Media Services. I used a cheap Genius Mic for the audio and a bog standard video camera into a wintv card for the video. I'm in Maesteg, not too far from you if you wanted a look? Joe
  7. Last year we had the Beeb in to do it. This year we just did one in house and broadcast it live across the school network. As always we had a nightmare getting it set up, but it all worked okay at broadcast time!! The unfortunate thing was only 3 teachers 'tuned' in with their classes to watch it, those in for early lunch had no choice as we showed it in our canteen as well - that got the viewing figures up! Good experince for the kids, and good experience for us to!!
  8. I am having problems restoring documents using Backup Exec 12 and our Fujitsu TX08 robotic library on windows 2008. When restoring I get the error "Physical Volume Library Drive or Robot paused, offline, or disabled." Our backups work okay, and I can see the folders listed in the catalog, but I can't restore - it used to work okay. I have followed the backup exec suggestions and updated the library firmware, updated the SCSI card windows driver and run live update to ensure there's no backup exec patches. I'm using the backup exec drivers for the library. I've also removed and reinstalled Backup exec (leaving the catalogs in place though), but still no joy. I'm getting desperate now as I have several restore jobs that need doing! Hoping you guys n gals can help! Thanks Joe
  9. That was my thought to, but you beat me to it!
  10. No need to apologise, some of us would be very grateful to have this passion and support available to us............
  11. Si, You're welcome to come up and have a look/chat at our setup if you want? We have a 3 server farm with external access to one box via RDP.
  12. Have it enabled on my 2008 and 2008R2 boxes. Never did on 2003, but having had a worm, and seen how many viruses get picked up by Sophos on kids and staff USB drives I now prefer to have that little extra protection just in case another Worm gets in.... Did have one issue where the Ports needed for Netlogon replication didn't get opened on our 2008R2 DC box (2008 DC was okay though). Didn't spot it for a while, when I did though it explained a few things.... Oh, and another issue I had was that when I used GPOs to control the server firewalls it went a bit wrong and I had total lockdown. A bit of googling turned up similar problems, and the general consensus was to manually allow things on each server rather than via GPO, worked fine ever since. Can't remember what these extra ports were now, as mentioned above most Apps tend to open the ports themselves on install, and Windows does if adding roles/features.
  13. Fixed! Took the -k bit out of the rdesktop config line and all is well
  14. I'm having an issue with Thinstation and our 2008R2 terminal servers, specifically the keyboard defaulting to US and the language bar appearing as US as well. I have set the thinstation config to en_gb, all servers are set to UK locale, no sign of US and I've even set the Office 2007 policies to UK just in case. I'm using the Danish distro of Thinstation as it seems to work best with reconnecting to 2008 server, en_gb was specified in the build. Any ideas welcome!
  15. Right, I think I've narrowed this down to rdesktop not supporting Session broker. I'm going to try using DNS Round Robin only, not as effective but still some load balancing and hopefully it'll work. Has anyone tried this with rdesktop? Cheers edit: All working!
  16. Hope someone can help! I've setup Thinstation on our Samsung SM711NT thin clients. It works most of the time, but I get random issues where you input your username and password when connecting to our 2008R2 farm and then it goes back to the login/reboot/shutdown replimenu screen. Also, when you successfully connect and then log off the server session I cannot reconnect from the replimenu. I used the build from tsomatic which is 2.2.2 I can't find any reason why this is, I've attached the config file. config.txt
  17. Admin tools > Remote Desktop services > session host config and then double click RDP-TCP and it's the security option on the general tab Hope I understood you right!
  18. I'm in the process of upgrading our 3 Terminal Servers from 2008 32bit to 2008R2 64bit with added RAM. Due to time pressures when originally setting these up I never got around to sorting out profiles, so every user has a local profile on each TS server, the time has come to resolve this! I've read the Wiki and trawled through the forums and I've got the profile setup and made it mandatory, however if I set it via GPO for all users who login to the terminal servers (the servers are in their own OU) it doesn't get applied, though gpresult shows the GPO applying to the test user I have. If I apply it via ADUC to my test user account under the terminal server profile section of their account it does apply, but on logoff a copy of the mandatory profile remains on the server despite me setting the delete local copies option in the GPO. As well as speeding up login the idea of using a mandatory profile centrally stored is to free up space on the terminal server! I'm missing something blooming obvious here...
  19. I'm trying to work out how to add captcha to a contact form I have on my personal website. I have the form emailing me, pretty straightforward as cgimail is included already in the hosting package. My web development and scripting knowledge is very basic! I'm with hostpapa and as mentioned am using cgimail with the form, I've found This captcha script but can't get it to work, thoug the image comes up okay. The hosting package does support php as well. Thanks for any help you can give!
  20. It's a discussion you have which involves being asked what training you need, knowing full well they'll never pay for IT training courses, particularly the not so cheap MS ones.....
  21. Not too bad a first day back. Had appraisal with HT, all okay E-Mail not sending from our exchange box to county addresses, turns out to be a county DNS issue. Discovered that I can now update Sophos to latest version as county have now got ISA rules rules to allow access to Sophos unproxied, job for tomorrow. Rebooted all servers at end of day to install updates and discovered that RDP into terminal server form outside school now works again. And finally installed ECDL exam software in IT suite... Tomorrow will probably not be so good.........
  22. I'll vote for yournomination! Exactly why I now have a shot measure at home, I knew for years I was over-pouring!
  23. Nice little iPlayer plug in there...... Am I missing something or haven't tablet PCs been around for a while... So how are they the next big thing...
  24. Seems othershave had problems with Windows 7 (and other versions) 64bit and wep. Hope the link helps, some had luck changing the driver
  25. I shall be on stage playing in a band (play bass in a Big Band) otherwise I'd probably be tucked up in bed well before midnight!
