With the way IT in education is going - VLEs, etc, and the 14-19 learning pathways with pupils moving schools, I find it amazing that there is no coordination from within LEAs for IT in schools!

@Butuz, couldn't agree more, and for some time I've been contemplating writing to WAG to highlight this, especially given that some LEAs no longer have education IT depts. Maybe this weekend when I have some free time I'll get around to writing it!!

Does anyone know if Civilisation 2 runs from CD or installs locally? Our head of IT wants to start a club for the kids playing this (it's educational apparently!)but our PCs don't have CD/DVD drives and even if they did, the discs would walk anyway!! Cheers

Having never used a CIS my thoughts were laser, but I haven't written off CIS! Generally I do very little printing, but my better half prints off schemes of work, weekly plans, meeting notes, etc for school, mostly black but when she does colour it's usually a few full pages! Budget is like everything as cheap as poss, ideally sub £300.

As my better half is a nursery teacher we're going through ink at a ridiculous rate! Next time we need more ink (i.e. in the next two weeks!) I'm looking at replacing our Canon MP170 with something like the Samsung CLX-2160N. It looks compact, not too expensive and is networkable. Have any of you used this, or does anyone have an alternative? Ideally we want an all-in-one to save on space, but at a push a separate scanner and colour laser is an option. TIA

After migrating to 2007 from 2003 I spent ages trying to get our OWA address to stay as https://www.school.blah.di.blah/exchange not https://blah..../owa I gave up and went with /owa and let staff know the new address from home. I also had fun with the certificates, and in the end bought one from instantssl (Comodo) I didn't get the UCC oe though, what features of Exchange are you using? The bog standard instantssl one works fine with OWA

I took my first step into the virtual world today! Our setup is a s follows: 1 x Exchange2007/web box (2008) 3 x TS (2008) 1 x App server/DC (2008) 1 x Storage server (2003) 2 x to be retired boxes 1 running Successmaker (2003) and 1 DHCP (was exch 2003 box) I wanted another DC in the setup, the 2 retired boxes are getting old, promoting the exchange box is out, promoting one of the TSs is doable but not advisable, so using Hyper-V I've dropped a virtual DC onto the exchange Box. It's 2 x quad core, with 4GB RAM so plenty of guts! And as it's 64bit if more RAM is needed the option is there. When I checked the processor usage was around 12-20% and the RAM 3GB

Good luck, hope you get it sorted! I had to use one of our free calls to sort out the hanging issue with our new Fujitsu's, they're not the quickest at getting back to you, but they seem to have solved the problem!

The only issue I've had is after a reboot I have to manually start the services.... Not sure if this may help or this?
