News regarding ICT4C/YHGfL?
hallb15 replied to enbiggen's topic in Yorkshire & Humberside Grid for Learning (YHGfL)
Sorry to dig up an old thread but I've searched my inbox and the usual places and can't find an answer to this. Anyone who's still using SEC, not Sophos Central, know what the correct source for updates is? I've still got the old yhgfl.net URL which doesn't work anymore. -
That's per device! I don't think you can get a site license anymore.

We have a dozen SMART panels, a mixture of E70, 4065, 6265 and mx265. Gone are the old days of being able to use the most current version of software you had paid for I'm afraid. SMART Notebook does now change to a restricted version once the subscription is up - I've experienced it recently. However, there are some pretty decent deals to be had for 4 year subscriptions when you purchase at the same time as the hardware. We paid less than £80 for a 4 year subscription.

Go with the Pro. I got all our unifi kit from https://www.4gon.co.uk/ They were the cheapest and always up for a deal. When you buy individual APs they come with a PoE injector. The multi-packs don't include the injector so you'll need a PoE switch.

I'm in Leeds and use Unifi. I only have 18APs, 9 switches and a gateway though. Happy to help if I can.

Lets all go to work on one of these:

We installed PaperCut last summer and haven't looked back since. Ours was installed by Konica. We had 2 blokes deliver the new photocopiers and take the old ones away, one hardware engineer to setup the new photocopiers and a software specialist to install PaperCut on the devices and our server. It went increadibly smoothly and support from both hardware and software teams has been very good. We also looked at a Canon solution which was very comprehensive, but in the end Konica worked out cheaper and we've had Konica for the last 6 years so knew their support was good and that swayed it for us.

Consistently poor experience with EXA Networks
hallb15 replied to epoch_roots's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
I'm getting the same issue. (we're on Surfprotect Quantum via Darklight) The status page shows all operational. https://status.exa.net.uk/ I've reported it to [email protected] -
@TheLIon I agree with what @mikeprice said. We've probably experienced worse between us so get posting your issues! Are we talking 'CAT5e cables connected with sellotape' physical kind of mess? or Hyper-V, vlan, DHCP type of mess?

Consistently poor experience with EXA Networks

No problems for us today, we're on Surfprotect Quantum via Darklight. -
If the drive/backup is encrypted and the process of taking the drive home is included in the schools data protection policy, then you've documented proof that the school has taken reasonable steps to minimise risk of data loss, whilst still providing a third level of backup in case of a catastrophic disaster in the school or a ransomware attack. This is perfectly acceptable within GDPR guidelines.
-
Can you supply these with Win 10?
-
Ditch the tape. Use two NAS boxes in separate buildings if you can and duplicate backups from one to the other. Add in a monthly backup to a USB drive which you or the Head takes home when its not being used to back up. That's what we do and it seems to work well for us. Restore from NAS is way quicker and simpler than tapes and you have redundancy in case one or both NAS boxes are compromised in some way.

[ms office - 2016] Printing ranges error in Word
hallb15 replied to Koldov's topic in Office Software
Check the formatted page number! See my post here for how I solved it. -
Word not printing but only when you select a page range
hallb15 replied to hallb15's topic in Office Software
I have found out what the issue is. The page numbering is completely to pot on the document. E.g. There are 7 pages in total, but the first 'formatted page' isn't page 1 its page 31. If you look at the status bar, it normally shows Page 1 of 7, but there is also a hidden 'formatted page' number which isn't shown by default. To find this 'formatted page number' you have to right-click the status bar and tick 'formatted page number'. This then shows on the left hand side of the status bar as PAGE: See image below So it turns out all the documents that are affected by this issue were produced originally by the same staff member, who happens to have left last year. The only reason this issue has come to light is that usually staff print the whole document so no-one noticed until now. One strange thing is that copying and pasting into a new document also copies across these formatted page numbers so the issue remains in the newly created document. -
Word not printing but only when you select a page range
hallb15 replied to hallb15's topic in Office Software
No, I can't print selected pages to Cute PDF but I can save as a PDF in Word then print from acrobat which is what I've told staff to do for now. -
Word not printing but only when you select a page range
hallb15 replied to hallb15's topic in Office Software
I'm not convinced it is a PaperCut issue as the print job doesn't seem to be leaving Word - the PC client never registers the job as being printed. -
Word not printing but only when you select a page range

That's not something I wanted to hear. We've had papercut since July though so I'm sure this would have come up before today. -
Word not printing but only when you select a page range
hallb15 replied to hallb15's topic in Office Software
Yes, it appears to be any word document with more than one page. It does it with .doc and .docx files. -
This one has got me stumped. Word (2010 or 2016) will not print if you select a page range within a document, e.g. page 1-3 of a 10 page document. If you just print the whole document it works fine. Printing works from other MS Office programs without problem - whole document or page range. We have Konica c458 MFDs and Papercut 18.2 and use the PaperCut client on all PCs. The client is setup to warn users when they send a colour print job how much it will cost and ask them to confirm they want to proceed. When printing a specific page range from Word, the client doesn't pop up, so it doesn't appear as though the print job is being sent. I've tried several documents, all do the same thing. I can save the word document as PDF and print a page range from acrobat reader without any problems. This occurs on Win7 and Win10. I've tried re-installing drivers (I already had the latest version 11.1.2.0), restarted the print server, still the same issue occurs. There's a couple of really old Spiceworks posts about a similar problem, but they don't apply. Does anyone have any ideas?

I've used snapfish to print photos onto canvas. They're very good. They don't appear to do up to A1 size though, the largest is 75x50cm and costs £64.99 but if you look around online, there's usually one or two discount codes around. There's a couple at the moment that may apply, like 40% off orders over £200 (inc VAT).
