Could be heat related, especially if she always uses it on her lap. Despite the name, laptops can overheat when not on a flat, hard surface. Overtime, they get clogged up with dust which restricts airflow in the already small space which makes them overheat. Take it apart, clean the fan and any airways with compressed air if you have it, and try again.

I'm at a similar size school (735 pupils, 86 staff) and there is just me, the ICT Manager, on a 37hr week, term time plus 20 days so almost full time. I find that I manage OK with the systems I have built up since I started here, but I rarely have time for developing new things.

That HP that @Jawloms linked to above looks like a decent spec for the money. 6th Gen i5 at 3.3GHz should last you 5 years or more if your usage is similar to ours. Our ICT Suite is running fine, largely on 3rd gen i3 CPUs which are nearly 8 years old now. Mainly used for things like PurpleMash, Education City, MS Office, Audacity, so typical primary school applications. SLT were planning on replacing our ICT suite with mobile devices when the current PCs become unusable but they just keep on going.

I think the issue is that Torchwood was written for adults, whereas Doctor Who is written for children with some elements to keep the adults interested. Russel T Davies was great at catering for both audiences in his Doctor Who stories.

When you'd rather watch something over 10 years old it kind of confirms how bad the current Doctor Who is. Bring back Russel T Davies!

Have you tried with any images to see how pixelated they look? Depending on what you're trying to achieve, when viewed from a distance the pixelated look can be quite good. I've never made one that large but I've used https://rasterbator.net/ several times to make lifesize prints of various famous people to put on wall displays. It works very well and shows you how many pages you'll need, what size and orientation etc...

I have one long run in a classroom which is approx. 8m. to a SMART 4065. We had issues originally using a 10m USB cable but these were cured by using a powered USB extender cable, similar to this one: https://www.lindy.co.uk/usb-c4/5m-usb-3-0-active-extension-cable-p515 I also found similar issues with long HDMI cables and the on-board graphics of the PC we were using. It produced some 'ghosting' around dark areas of the image produced on the display. Swapped the PC and this was cured so that's something else to watch out for.

It's getting more difficult to find spare parts for them now - particularly keyboards - but I keep patching them up and they're still performing well. Going to try Windows 10 on them next - that could seal their fate...

Another +1 for @ICTDirect_Dave As well as quality products, the service is top notch. We've got two trolley's full of Lenovo Thinkpad T410s from them which are pushing 10 years old and still working well.

We've had ours in for a few years now. Mostly Unifi AC-AP-Pro with a handful of AC-AP-Lites where range/speed wasn't so important. +1 for 4gon - that's where we got ours from and they were consistently the cheapest and provided great service.

I loved Picard - the only thing I don't like is having to wait a week for the next episode. I was a big fan of TNG so was looking forward to this new series and it didn't disappoint. I also liked Discovery when I watched it on Netflix and I've found myself watching it again on E4.

What's the spec of your current laptop? An SSD is normally the best way to go, but if the rest of the hardware isn't up to the job then an SSD may not help that much. @ICTDirect_Dave would sort you a decent refurb out if you did want to replace the whole laptop.

CPC and Kenable are the two places I would have recommended. Used them both without any problems.

I've got a VeryPC branded version of the Lafite which is a brilliant bit of kit. Looks like a MacBook so will keep the shiny staff happy. I'm sure @VeryPC will be able to spec something suitable for you.
