We've used Connect Up and School ICT Services - who have since taken over Connect Up. No real problems with either of them.

I found the faulty component. It's not part of the PSU but a separate PCB which looks like it is something to do with the PoE side of things as it has a 24V and 48V input on it. Even with this PCB disconnected the switch still behaves in the same way with the same port LEDs on constantly. I think I'll bin it unless anyone wants it for spares? Maybe I'll send it to Big Clive...

After almost 5 years of faultless service, one of my UniFi switches has died. No warnings, just dropped off the network taking every device connected to it down at the same time. All the port LEDs that were on at the time stayed on, but the main status LED is off. Power cycling it had no effect, but strangely the same port LEDs that were on before remain stuck on, even after disconnecting all the patch cables. The cooling fans also come on low speed at first then spin up to full after about 15 seconds. Pressing the reset button does nothing, even if holding it in for 5 seconds for a factory reset. The status LED remains permanently off. Looking on the forums there have been others with similar issues but I couldn't find a fix. I left it powered off over the weekend but trying it again today its just the same. As it's way out of warranty, the supplier just offered a link to buy a new switch. Has anyone had anything similar with a UniFi switch and managed to fix it?

Think about what you would want if you were starting at a new place. In an ideal world you'd document EVERYTHING but there will always be some forgotten systems that have worked autonomously for so long you don't remember them. You should include as much relevant info as possible, but it doesn't need to be an idiots guide. For example I wouldn't list the contents of every GPO but give enough info to show which server to look for them on. Below is the contents page of my school IT documentation - I'm sure it's by no means an exhaustive list but hopefully it will give you a starting point. This was designed to give a third-party support company enough info to cover in my absence. Looking at it now, I can see parts that need updating - I think we're all a little bit guilty of that.

Have you tried 0000 for the password? I used to work in a school with the old, bright orange Epson projectors and they had that password.

From what you've said, I think Unifi would be just right and Meraki would be overkill for your situation. If your IT supplier is suggesting Unifi they must be willing/able to support it. The metal container sounds interesting and would need a site survey to ensure you had the right amount of access points in the right places - your IT supplier should be doing this anyway. I can't help you with the leased line as we're lucky enough to be in a DarkFibre area so have fibre from Exa Networks. Its a 300Mb connection at the moment which is more than enough for us.

There's so many variables to consider, it's hard to give you specific advice. What sort of numbers of clients are you talking about? How many simultaneous connections do you need? What size is the building, how many rooms, over how many floors, what are the buildings made out of etc... What I would say is we've had Unifi switches and wireless access points for several years without any significant issues. We have 75 wired desktops, 75 wireless laptops and 35 iPads, plus the usual photocopiers etc... They all run happily off 18 access points and 11 switches across two buildings. We're using a mixture of the original CAT5e cable infrastructure and any newer cabling is CAT6, plus 4 fibre links between the buildings. Unifi is a good choice for the less techy (if I can manage it - anyone can) as the controller software can be manage 99% of the time through a browser. I'm happy to explain our setup in more detail if you would like. Oh, and No All Wifi isn't guaranteed to be up to 50% slower than wired - Max 1000Mbps via CAT5e compared to Max 1300Mbps over 5GHz wifi via a Unifi AC Pro access point, but these are max theoretical figures without any obstacles in the way. Real world is likely to be MUCH slower on both wired and wireless.

Altaro here, just the VMs. It's deduplication and compression features work really well. Granular file restore is also very good.

I'm just going through a similar process except from 2012R2 to 2019. Advice from our SIMS support company and others is to avoid an in-place upgrade if SQL is involved. For us that means building new VMs for SIMS, Papercut and Biostore/Fastrak.

Turn it back on - PaperCut will have come up with a solution before you need to worry about it again.

I'm not sure it is. That page says MS are aiming for a Oct 2022 milestone so it hasn't come into effect yet. It also says only Print to Email would be affected for Office 365 users.

The minimum specs are quite high - or at least require a fairly modern PC. - Intel 8th Gen Coffee Lake or Zen 2 CPUs - TPM 2.0 (Trusted Platform Module) support - 4GB of RAM - 64GB of storage You can download the MS Health App which has a new 'Introducing Windows 11' section at the top. Click the Check Now button and it will first check if your PC meets the required standards before letting you download Windows 11. The 6th Gen i7 in my workstation isn't up to the minimum 8th Gen so I can't officially install Windows 11 on this machine.

We have over 20 of these (well the smaller mx265) and the only 2 times we have had issues is with cheap 5M HDMI cables and with low powered, small form factor PCs with laptop style power bricks instead of a proper desktop PSU. We have our desktop PCs connected to the mx265 via a 5M HDMI cable to HDMI 1 on the mx265 and via a 2M VGA cable to a 24" monitor on the teacher's desk. They can be quite fussy as to what resolution and refresh rate you are sending out the HDMI. You could try setting different outputs and see what you get, but the HDMI 1 input is HDMI v2.0 compliant so should be able to take pretty much anything you throw at it. The cables are likely to be the cause of the issue. If the cables are only HDMI 1.4 spec, they'll only support 4K @ 30Hz.
