Other ways of installing would be deploying the MSI with GPO so that it installs automagicly on all targeted stations or using some other form of software managment to get it on there. I seem to remember that photostory had some weird issues when it did not have enumerate permissions on the whole folder path - i.e. it could get a folder list of //server //server/docs //server/docs/user - the file issue does sound rather weird, could you test it with a standard user saving to a folder on the c: and see if that has the same issues? It is probably something to do with it not quite handeling the file permissions somewhere along the folder tree.

Native EFI boot as above is only supported by modern tools that support it, Windows PE4 (based on W8) boots to it just fine and lets you image and keep the 10-15 second speed increase at every single boot. Personally I'd upgrade the tools to support it rather than turning it off, Secureboot effectivly stops rootkits too. If using WDS try using the 2012 one or at least the latest windows pe based on Windows 8, they have improved the performance of imagex and the wim tools used by WDS by something like 40% which is massive. It can also help using unicast instead of multicast with WDS if you are only doing one or two as some switches and many drivers will cripple the speed over multicast.

There is no way to determine the client type, smtp is 30 years old, it's just text on port 25 so there is no way to block just that. If you are using Outlook SMTP is only used for inter-server communication so you could simply deny the ip range of your local networks excluding the ones that actually need it like reporting applications and photocopiers. SMTP is usually just for downlevel clients that can't use a more modern protocol like ActiveSync or Outlook RPC. You could also set internal to only be avalible with encrypted smtp which uses a cert and would just spew rubbish at them when they use telnet but you will still need unencrypted for servers from the internet.

You are right, to bridge VLANs you need layer3, there is a technology that lets it work from one VLAN to another without layer3 but it is messy when applied to anything other than a really small network, I first saw it on a DLink switch and thought eep, nightmare when scaled.

Yikes, XP, it think I still remember that. Anyhow, is it plugged it in to a usb hub or port that is piped into a hub on the motherboard. XP is beyond primitive, especially in the installer and it reinitiates all usb hubs when it boots into textmode which will cut off connections to the installation source. If it is that anything Vista or higher should work fine.

You want some sql that selects all rows where the date last cleaned is more than 100 days in a dataset then send those out with a smtp compomenent.

Looks like no one has really answered your question as to why technically. EAS supports contacts and calendars which is huge, it also supports looking up the global address list. It is more efficient and way more secure than pop which can send your password in clear text, not good if you're an admin. It also supports push email for as they arrive receiving. It is massively better on battery life as it uses long tcp windows meaning data is only switched on for tiny amounts of time rather than for a full send and receive every however long. Concluding, pop is a model t in comparison to an Aston Martin. If you're going to use it use eas, even from just a technical standpoint.

Likewise, I had a 'dreaded' Vectra which I liked and kept till 200k kms. It did not burn or leak any noticeable amount of oil. It was the 2.5l though which were apparently better.
