I think you can do something similar with transport rules in 2007 Exchange 2007 Server-side archiving: exchange, PST, mailbox, archive If not there is always Office365 which gives you 2013 hosted for free.

I'm sure Sony will be along when they are ready with a whole new string of 4k titles so that you can gratefully rebuy all the titles that you own. They may need a blood sample too so they can make sure that only you or your perfect clone can consume their DRM content.

That's the system they have wanted for a while but there are still places where downloading a medium sized game could cost $10 just in data charges if you're on the wrong plan or in the wrong place. It is not suitable for everywhere, I still have to check my data meter so I don't blow the cap and get billed more in overage than I pay to insure my car on top of the base charges.

You mean 'Blue' which is apparently progressing, I'm sure I read they were messing with it internally and it was due out this year Windows Blue: Codename Windows 9 | Windows X's Live They are moving to rolling upgrades though where they install as easily as updates so having a W8 install will probably mean Blue could be pushed out via WSUS in an afternoon with no major work or redeveloping of GPOs etc.

Haven't messed with it yet. TBH they have managed to make the console so slow and limited in Exchange 2010 that making it web based is not that much of a downgrade. Their control systems have been getting worse lately in their quest to make people use powershell as they have destroyed the GUIs.

Planning on the next move being to 2013 which I hear you have had bad experiences with too. Sorry for going off topic but would be interested in the faults that would cause you to persist with 2010, I know the migration stuff requires SP3 and 2013 (something not released yet). Currently running SP2 and updates as I usually hold back for a while on the major ones due to this very kind of situation. We don't have a test environment so stuff has to work, or at least be fixable in production.

Be careful that you are not just digging yourself a hole, you may need to purchase less stations up front but buying a solution that will cause problems in future is just causing yourself problems. A 60GB SSD and i3 will work well for a couple of years as long as you have limited software usage. Five years though is a long time, we get mid level i5's to get that kind of longevity in a primary school. We would love to use SSDs here but in NZ at least the cost to use them is just way to high so we are stuck with magnetic media for the time being. To sum up, don't use the money to dig yourself into a hole, if you need to buy less or simply tell them that they are insane to expect that much for the budget provided. If you do have to go i3 - personal opinion and experience - stay clear of Intel motherboards, the slowest implementation of i3's I have ever seen that put me off them for a couple of years. I would try for 120GB SSDs and i5 if possible, five years is a very long time in technology terms and it is a very long time to listen to the moaning when it proves limiting.

Why not use Exchange 2010+ which has automatic server side archiving(once you configure it), probably the easiest and most seamless solution.

For once I pushed it a day after it came out rather than before, Yay. Watch them pull it in an hours time because of some horrible flaw they knew about but thought would not affect anyone.

I hope they have deved it out a bit, the current one is so far away from an education focus that customising it to be usable would take longer than simply writing our own software. There is also a distinct lack of avalible training that is not massivly expencive or focused at the developer. I would need to employ another person to make the current version easily usable in a primary school. I have high hopes for the latest update and hope it brings at least one or two education related templates into it that you don't have to import and fight with for basic MLE functionality.

Grab MDT 2012 Update1 and the PE4 version that comes with that, it is based off W8 so should have USB3 drivers baked in, it is also up to 40% quicker at imaging depending on the tech you are using in comparision to the older versions.

VS is quite good at generating most of that stuff automagicly, you can look at the codebehind. I once did almost a whole app with drag and drop, winforms and a DB.

Oh I hope you mean VB.net rather than VB6 from 1997 or so. If so just grab a copy of Visual Studio Express, use it to make a web app with a SQL Express DB, a dataview control and some conditional logic, you should be fine to generate it in a web page. You could also make a basic app that gets run as a scheduled task each day to check the DB and email you if required with the outstanding jobs.

Yea, you still loose some functionality, at least the advanced stuff. Ruckus/Aruba etc are just better in that regard and they ship to NZ

Perhaps it is specified in the templates themselves. You may be able to specify a different web server? Do you have another server you could enable IIS on to try to unpack to?
