Our Performing Arts department has a requirement to compress videos, as the exam board has a limit of 600MB (I assume this is per video, and that some videos are larger than this). We have VLC installed on all PCs, so that may be the best way forward; does anyone use this? I found a guide at https://www.capcut.com/resource/vlc-compress-video#3 ways to compress video with VLC Media Player however if anyone has a guide for teachers, or any suggested settings, or any experience of doing this, that would be great. Ideally I want the process to be carried out by the Performing Arts subject leader, who will be submitting the video, so the process can't be too complicated, otherwise they may ask us to do it, which adds a layer of complexity (and, potentially, responsibility!) Alternatively, I see there are free sites online that offer to resize videos; can anyone confirm if any of these suits are suitable and offer good enough quality? This could be for all sorts of uses; performing arts performances to exam boards is just one example that has cropped up for us. I did try searching for an existing thread but didn't see one. Many thanks in advance!

This latest release of VLC has a massive amount of new features and bug fixes so definitely worth upgrading to. Download (Windows: 32-bit, 64-bit / OS X: 64-bit) / Homepage http://i.imgur.com/vLOAZ.pngvv

Hi, Hope someone can help. We stream live tv (schools own tv channel) in the mornings and staff access the live feed through vlc player. Now they get video fine but there not getting any audio. This problem is only affecting handful of staff. When they play a non-streamed video, everything is fine but not with streamed feed. I have updated the vlc player. Installed an older version - still doesn't work. It cant be anything to do with the hardware as its happening on different equipment. Any help would be appreciated. cheers.

Afternoon all! I thought I'd ask the nice kind people here (Yeah, I'm after something...) where they stand on VLC and schools. I've got a ticket logged with me where a teacher would like VLC deploying to a set of PC's to play DVD's. The PC's already have PowerDVD, and I'm tempted to knock this on the head before it becomes a case of "I want this because I like it" and just stick to one piece of software - however, I'm curious where people stand on having VLC within schools. I've personally no problem with using the software at home (Free and easy!), but I've heard snippets about legal issues about using VLC and DVD decoders (Can't remember what exactly, and I can't find anything about it) and just wondered what the implications would be if I did decide to roll this out in the future in a school enviroment?

I have tried several version of VLC on several different machines and my dvd will still not play it is a dual layer dvd when i do right click play with vlc player my hard drive goes nuts but vlc player doesn't launch and doesn't play. If i open VLC player and then select open disc and then play the hard drive goes nuts and but still wont play, the hard drive will remain going nuts I until i stop the process. I have tried the dvd in mpc and it will play but prefer to use vlc player. i found the dvd will play if you install version 1.1.10 this found by luck when a member of staff tried the dvd on one of our older machines. I have uninstall the new version from my laptop and tried the older version and the dvd plays perfect. I have posted on VLC forum but with no joy anyone on here experienced any issue.

Hello all, Im trying to get VLC to stream DVB-T Channels across our network, using AngryTechnicians excellent guide The Issue I am having is, when attempting to launch the stream (or simply to play it locally for testing) VLC just gives a blank screen and generates the following warnings bda_la-bdagraph.lo warning: FindFilter: No filter connected bda_la-bdagraph.lo warning: Build: Cannot connect Sample Grabber to Capture device: hr=0x80004005 (try 1/2) then when the stream is stopped main error: cannot pre fill buffer main warning: cannot create a stream_t from access I'm using a Kworld UB499-2T USB Tuner, and it works fine on the same machine via Windows Media Center. Any ideas / suggestions?

I had a bit of fun last night trying to get VLC for Android to connect to my media server (Zyxel NSA320). What I eventually want to do is get a small Android tablet in the kitchen to connect to the NAS or other net based radio stations (via apps) and play through an old set of Creative speakers we have in there. The problem I had with VLC is that it would connect to any web based shares but would happily play them if you connected via a browser and clicked on the file. If anyone knows of a media app for Android that will connect to a NAS and list all of the content within (music, video etc.) either using HTTP or UPnP then please help me out as I spent about an hour with VLC - admittedly still in beta for Android - trying to get it to connect via using it's own dialogues and menu options to no avail. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi all, I have recently installed a 27" Monitor in our Foyer, linked up to a Stone Mini PC hidden away in the reception office. Nothing fancy but should get the job done as a display screen. I've been asked to add some more information to our screen such as Safeguarding, contact details, twitter posts etc. What ways are you guys running display screens? So far I have just been using a PowerPoint exported as .mp4 and set it to fullscreen and loop on VLC player, worked well for a while but I'm running in to crashes and subsequent pop ups overlaying. I vaguely remember trying to setup Xibo on a VM, but with little success. Any super simple programs running off w10 would be fantastic, any suggestions welcome! Or shall I sink my teeth in to Xibo?

One of my technicians installed VLC player on our deployment image and set it to default for everything I can't seem to find anywhere the correct detials for windows explorer for the DefaultApps.xml file under I have this set at a workstation level Computer Configuration->Administrative Templates->Windows Components/File Explorer->Default Associations Configuration File
