It was an Empire. Two adults and twelve kids for £70, so not too bad price-wise.

I went to the cinema for the first time in 20 years (Jurassic Park was the last film I saw)! Took a group of kids to see Muppets Most Wanted and my ears are still hurting. I'm sure the decibel level must have been over the limit. The film wasn't brilliant either.

From memory, I just used the JL3 backup routine. Installed JL3 on the new machine and restored the backup.

I've just sent the BBC a text "After spending all night in the lambing shed with some particularly difficult births, I popped into the kitchen for a quick bacon butty and to listen to Farming Today. I had hoped to listen to something informative. Let me tell you, every day is April Fool's for us struggling hill farmers"

I agree that a lot of people seem to think that being able to put sound on a Powerpoint presentation makes them a whiz with computers is slightly annoying but if all staff knew all of the stuff this guy is suggesting they should know, then we'd be out of a job. And we'd miss out on the laughs we get posting about the daft things they do.

We were invaded by Daleks a few years back.

We are about to get a load of laptops for use in classrooms. Is it the norm to use the touchpad or provide a mouse?

We have one under a different name and I agree it is excellent.

We constantly request teachers to turn off projectors when not needed, they just don't do cooperate. We have just said they must print to a mailbox rather than directly to the printers. Some have done it but not many. In many cases, teachers seem to think these things simply don't apply to them. Until SLT get tough, then it will continue.

Happened here for the first time in a few weeks. I tried restarting the server service rather than rebooting. It wouldn't let me. I got a very slow progress bar when it tried stopping the server service and then a message to say it couldn't be stopped. I had to reboot because the everyone was in panic mode. I couldn't find anything relevant in the logs.

I think there's a danger that unscrupulous people will file the edges off and pass them off as 10p!

Like @broc I'm soon to retire and after a meeting with the HT, possibly sooner than planned because it doesn't look like I can reduce my hours first. I earn a few bob videoing concerts and I'm hoping I can build that up a bit but I also would like to offer a service transferring old video formats to dvd. I have the facilities to copy standard and super 8mm cine, VHS©, video8 and hi8 I'm thinking that there must be a lot of people out there with wedding/family videos that they can no longer watch because they can't play them. I wouldn't be charging big money, so am I dreaming in thinking there is a market?

Having been on survival training on both the Brecon Beacons and Dartmoor I know that creating a snug bivouac is not that difficult The trick is finding enough to eat. For tribes that still rely on a degree of hunter/gathering it is normal for the men to go off hunting, whilst the women gather berries, nuts and whatever else you can gather. No prizes for guessing which sex contributes most towards the pantry?

I'd try and get to one of these tribes that are still living without technology because they will be the survivors.
