It happened again on Tuesday afternoon. I've started having the server task manager open so I can see how it's performing. I just happeened to be moving a large file and the data rate was up around 70MB/s, after a couple of minutes is suddenly dropped down to less than 1MB/s and seconds later my phone started ringing. The server cpu was at less than 10% and there were no peaks, Memory steady at 67%. I rebooted the server and all was well again.

We are having a weekend break in Hereford and went out for a pub meal last night. Hereford was heaving so we headed out of town. The first pub we came to was packed so we blindly went down a narrow lane and came to a real village pub. It just had a few locals in. An old guy with a lovely black Labrador and a couple of lads trying to chat up the barmaid. The banter went on for a while with the barmaid winning hands down. One of the lads held out his phone and took a photo of himself with the barmaid in shot. The old boy muttered something and the lad asked him if he took selfies. Our LEA did it for us. So we kept the same domain .sch.uk and Global IDs. It is synchronised to the LEA system which makes it easy to set up and remove accounts. I have a feeling that Shropshire has a similar setup to Worcestershire, so it might be woth asking.

I had to go to Wickes in Redditch the other day and knowing what a pain the road system is in Redditch, I put my satnav in the minibus. I put in the postal code and it came back with Other Road. I remarked to the Site Manager what a dump Redditch is, they don't even have names for their roads. When we got there, the road was called Other Road. A had an Aunt who lived on Snappersnipes SNAPPERSNIPES on WESTBURY Street Map

We have it unblocked for staff and pupils. The biggest problem is that pupils think it is their God given right to listen to music whilst doing their work. This would not be a problem if they got on with their work instead of spending the lesson looking on youtube. It annoys me, especially when I go into a suite and there are a group of lads around one computer sniggering. But, if that's ok with the teacher! Youtube is a great teaching tool, without it I would have just taken far more screws out of a Toshiba laptop that needed. I do think that it is more useful in the classroom than the ICT suite. Watching the Monty Python clip is a great way to start the Romans module.

I just put a PCI-e USB3 card that I got on Ebay into my system. The supplied drivers didn't work, so I found some for another card that uses the same NEC chip. This installed ok and device manager is happy but I got "Power Surge on Hub" message, even with no device plugged in. The board has a connector the same as on floppy drives. The psu lead is not long enough to reach the card, so I can't try it. It's a 1 lane card, so is that why it isn't getting sufficient power? If I can extend the floppy power lead, should that fix it?

At long last something that actually works. The idea is that you can spot bad drivers because they must display a white flag with a red + sign. The more flags the worse the driver.
