Recommendation- Promethean, Smart, CTouch!
witch replied to saggu's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
We have both - and the Prometheans win hands down. The Genee boards are OK but they sometimes lose connectivity. Our staff love ActivInspire -
Yes, of course - I didn't mean the sidekicks would still necessarily be female - but if they are male, the dynamic will be so different
-
It will just change the entire dynamic - I loved the powerful female sidekicks who sometimes got the better of the doctor - that won't happen now. I don't have any objection to the female/male thing in principle but I cannot see how this will work with the doctor.
-
No you aren't. I AM a woman and I think having Dr Who as female will change the whole dynamic of the program, to its detriment. I know the Master became Missy, but she ended up doing and saying things and crying that the Master NEVER would have done. Equality or feminism doesnt mean that every gender gets every part.

There is a donkey sanctuary on the island. It is free and they are soooooooooo cute

The views from the coast walk are stunning - particularly from the Military Road

Ah yes, good point! We have really just used it to show that X teacher isn't reading many or indeed any of their emails.
-
Shared areas incremental backup every night. Full server backup every weekend

Spiderman - homecoming I liked it. Not much to comment on, it was much as you would expect but a bit of fun and some CGI

I log on as admin, go to reports and I am sure I produce a list of number of emails received and number opened

Get you! I haven't even got a paddling pool

Our teachers will share fairly minor concerns with the whole school - especially if it is a child who anybody might encounter. They limit it to something like "Tommy has issues today and may be angry..." Anything more serious is logged on to My Concern (which has really changed the reporting for the better - everything is in one place and can be accessed by all teachers at any time) and the Pastoral support person is responsible for dealing with it -the safeguarding officer gets all info logged on My Concern automatically. There is a line to be drawn between a "heads-up" - which I have always maintained that is important for people like me to see - I encounter the children all around the school and it is very useful to have a bit of knowledge about them, and a data protection issue. I think the idea of logging stuff and sending a link to the staff concerned is a good idea.

We are a three form entry junior and I have removed all printers except for the MFD in the repro area, one printer in the IT suite and one in the staff workroom. Makes my life SO much easier as the MFD is leased. Since we amalgamated the network they can also search for and print to the MFD in the office. They don't tend to though. I suppose it depends how far the teachers have to walk. Ours got used to it quite quickly and like the fact that they can send a TA to print out their stuff and it won't print until the buttons are pressed. Definitely less waste now too

I would go for an android device, well locked down. As for the charging, we have 70 Lenovo Yogas in three Lapcabby trollies and tbf there hasnt been any damage to the cables as yet. They have pulled the cable keepers off the shelves in some cases but we havent had a broken charging cable yet. The main issue for us is that the children don't plug the laptops in when returning them to the trolley

Transformers Hmm Suspending disbelief is one thing..but this storyline is ridiculous. Not much else to say really

I would quite like us to be a "Microsoft School" If only to annoy the music teacher who got given shedloads of money to buy a brand-new top of the range Mac just because he needed Garageband

Not sure which game you are trying to stay ahead of but I don't think it is working. Posting information is fine but please actually post the links. Here is the info: Paddington Bear creator Michael Bond dies - BBC News

Fire Engulfs Grenfell Tower Block In West London - BBC News

So what was the problem really? Was it badly conducted safety checks? (so the fault of the council and/or the fire service if they sign off such things) Was it fraudulently manufactured cladding that was purported to be fire safe but wasn't? Was it that the law is too lax where this sort of thing is concerned? (Unlike Scotland and Wales where it clearly states the material used must not be flammable, I believe) If it was the latter - and it is easy to determine if the cladding met the current legislation without a huge investigation - then i want to see an amendment to the law being sorted out ASAP. What about the gas pipes in the communal areas? Who did that and who signed off on it? I heard on Radio 4 this morning that this could be an issue in other flats too. -
I get refurb laptops and give them to staff. Staff cannot expect a new laptop - after all, if they are replacing a staff member they would automatically get that person's old laptop unless it was really really old! @ICTDirect_Dave gets great laptops that last every bit as long as new ones and the slight difference in performance etc is not noticeable.

@Theory Did you find out what you did on the missing Sunday?
-
Yes. My brother-in-law has been working in the local hospital IT since he lost his job at Marconi when it folded some years ago. He was quite high up and has knowledge of infrastructure etc and he is horrified by the situation he is now in. No money, little or no expertise, and permanently blocked by people not allowing things to be done - such as consultants never bringing laptops in for updates etc.

[Poll] Is it true that Older Fathers have Geekier Sons? (Or daughters?)
witch replied to elsiegee40's topic in General Chat
I found this: "......scored them according to their non-verbal IQ at 12 years old, as well as parental reports on how focused and socially aloof they were. For a father aged 25 or younger, the average score of the children was 39.6. That figure rose to 41 in children with fathers aged 35 to 44, and to 47 for those with fathers aged over 50. The effect was strongest in boys, where the geek index rose by about 1.5 points for every extra five years of paternal age. The age of the children’s mothers seemed to have almost no effect on the geek index. When the scientists looked at the children’s achievements at school they found that having a high IQ, a tendency to focus intensely and social aloofness were all linked to children taking more technical GCSEs. When children displayed all three traits, the effect was even more pronounced, the researchers write in the journal Translational Psychiatry. Overall, children who were born when their fathers were 50 or older were 32% more likely to achieve two A or A* grades at GCSE than children born to men aged under 25" But the study is of twins which surely have their own quirks and differences anyway - twins are often socially aloof from others because they have each other. I would also consider the fact that children born to older fathers are often the product of a second marriage and the father is much more comfortable materially speaking and so perhaps the children get more advantages than those born to younger dads who are still climbing the career ladder and whose income could well be much lower. -
Head has asked if its possible to get her a Mac for our windows network.
witch replied to TwistedHelixis's topic in Mac
Probably not - but the iPad isnt on my network and he doesn't access SIMS from it either so there is a limited amount of confidential stuff there. He tends to make meeting notes and transcribe it to his work laptop. TBF we don't have any encryption and I am sure quite a few teachers work on their home laptops anyway
