We did loopback processing at a previous org (but I changed roles so memory of ins and outs of setup could be sketchy but it worked really well) so we could get location based printers but many different ways to do and can be different experience or PITA with Roaming Priorities etc.

How are doing the mapping by Group Policy Prefences , are these user or computer based policies? If it is jus an MFD you should be able to map through GPP in the same method. What MFDs are these by the way, I seem to remember some MFDs having issues with Group Policy that was a post on here some time back, but could be memory and could be resolved by now :-) .

I use Veeam free edition then back that up encrypted to external HDDs/SDDs stored at work as well as another NAS at home. I've got around 20+ odd VMs so backing up those VMs to cloud is going to be expensive not to mention time consuming on a 50/16Mbps VDSL link. If I lose it all then the practice of rebuilding will be time consuming but that is OK. Some systems have their own config backups in addition (firewall, switches, routers, etc.) which are backed up to local NAS and AWS.

Servers should always be on static IP. You will need to use a IP that is not been used elsewhere on the subnet/network. You will also need to setup the Default Gateway and DNS servers. The server will also need to be on the same network/logical address space as your clients if you do not have a router. Once you setup an IP address on the server you can then try setting up RDP for internal use as a test and also shares and just use IP address to start with. Keep it basic whilst you start to learn. I would suggest starting with some guides or even a MS exam self study guide on Server 2019 if you can get one. And maybe another on basic networking.

Just had the AZ this morning. 2 of my friends also in their 50's are getting today as well. Having lost data before I backup to AWS along with to another NAS onsite daily. I use the free software on my NAS to do both. One NAS as shared storage the other for backups. Non-Important/Non-Personal stuff is backed up to external HDDs/SDDs and taken to work once a week or so.

In that case if you were to use vlans depending if the router/switches supported it you could get the router to do the routing between the subnets/vlans (sort of router-on-a-stick). How this is achieved to get traffic routing between the subnets would depend on the router/firewall. It would be ideal to setup vlans in any case, although a /22 (1022 usable addresses) is not really that big it is getting there and would enable you to segregate for security and stability but that is a big step by the sounds of it for you.

I'm sure just creating an additional scope will not work as you are creating an additional network/subnet. Devices in that additional scope/subnet will not be able to talk to other devices in other networks unless you have some form or router/layer3 switch which is able to route traffic between the 2 subnets. I must admit I am unfamiliar with setups such as these though, most experience is with having core switches etc. So if the RM router is in scope 1 devices in scope 2 will not be able to communicate with it as they will not know how to get to it, they are logically seperated. But yes some more info would help.

Yep give new DC a temp IP address then migrate old DC to a different temp IP address then change new DC to original IP address. But yes give it a chance to replicate and run a dcdiag before you start, midway and when you finish so you are playing with a happy domain to start with :-) And yes migrate all the FSMO roles as well. @PlantHead has broken it down a bit more. The only thing I would add is to do a ipconfig /registerdns after changing IP addresses each time.

I only replicate the IP address (just create new DC with temp IP address) and I've never bothered changing the name. I only run basic functions on DCs i.e. FSMO roles, DNS/DHCP, so no real need to bother with the name. Once you have migrated the FSMO roles over to the new DC and have again checked dcdiag etc. then you can look at de-promoting it and cleanup. I normally do a ipconfig /registerdns once changed the IP address but that is just force of habit I think.

Still got me iPad2, had it around 8 years easy. I'd say it has been on/in use or charging easily constantly through that time. Just leave it on charge for a few hours and put it to one side, nothing to lose. UPDATE: Is that the bigger charger, not the smaller iPhone charger?

Sceptical about the longevity of having a fibre patch cable to a desktop in a school environment unless we can get fibre cables up to the task. You also need to factor in costs of SFPs and the switches that will need to be mostly SFP/SFP+. I think we are a bit away from that at the moment although switches with SFP ports are becoming more widespread and cheaper.

Biggest cost is nearly always going to be labour so budget for double needed at least where possible. We always do now, all refurbs and new builds are doubled up for APs

I had 2 ES-16-XGs few years back trouble was I wanted to do some IPv6, some OSPFv3 stuff and I was just starting to do video editing again. So I replaced them with one 2930f then another 3 eventually. Yeah I could of done in Packet Tracer but sometimes there is nothing like real physical kit and actually using it in anger on a daily basis. In a 5-10 years I can see me going more cloud and reducing the setup at home considerably but not going to happen at the moment.

Yeah if Ubiquiti could bring out some more features like for stacking (logical switch stacking not just management) and maybe some other features like IPv6 routing and dynamic routing protocols that would be interesting, alas it would push up the price. At the moment I have some Aruba 2930f's as core at home and with the 4 SFP+ ports on the 24/48port models 2 of ports being used for VSF stacking it leaves only 2 SFP+ ports free. So as I have 2 of them I have bought 2 MikroTik CRS 10Gb switches to act as aggregation switches for my VM Hosts, 10Gb Storage and video editing PC, these 2 MikroTik switches are then connected to each 2930f in a trunk with the storage and the VM hosts/storage split between the 2 MikroTiks. Over kill for a home network or what, lol, but it has given me plenty to do thru the lockdown.

Thinking about all the other uses of the tapes too. i.e. Computer Data, Faxes, etc. In the 1980s I used to collect TDK Cassette tapes, if only I still had them.

I have had both Edge/Edge Lite switches and Unifi switches at home before now and yes the ES-* are (Web/CLI) vs the US-* controller based (maybe there is way to access the CLI on US-*). There is a management software available that can do things like backup the Edgeswitches (was a few years back so may of gained some extra capabilities). One thing also to bear in mind that with the US-* switches I don't think there is any out-of-band management but it is swings and roundabouts really and also may be an easier decision if you have the Unifi wireless as well as the management/visibility will be all there in one place.

The tracking number never worked, I've tried iterations of the link on an isolated VM with a seperate 4G internet connection with i 's but cannot seem to get the link apart from the official page Dubious, I don't think I am expecting anything.

I heard there was talk of something but for the life of me cannot remember what. That and the actual authorities in certain countries taking action which seems to be a sticking point.
