I have auto sensing on my SEAT and it works pretty well, there is a 4 position switch on the stalk which increases the frequency but it still depends on the amount of water been sensed. I also had a Skoda Octavia with KESSY before this car. Once keys dropped out of my pocket and in between the seat and door. It sensed the key was in the car and prevented the car been locked, thankfully, lol. If it counts I found I could reduce the annoying fake engine sound down to 20% and enable the remote to unlock the boot with the ignition on via OBD.

That does look pretty good, I bought a Fire HD 8 for myself a month back (cheap option for Home Automation control panel) but they cost a bit more for 10 inch.

Depending on the switches I'd deploy loop protection, some form of spanning tree MSTP, RSTP or similar. Ideally You need to keep the same type of spanning tree across all of the switches that connect to each other otherwise you can create issues. vLANs also help with spanning tree as it will isolate a loop to a section of the network rather than effecting the whole network.

CCTV and VOIP should be kept separate, I wouldn't go back on that TBH. CCTV should be on it's own vlan and if you have VOIP (unless it's teams) it should be on it's own network. The same to be said for BMS, Door Access too as they can be quite noisy. I've seen printer cause a lot of issues on the same vlan as VOIP phones before now even to the point that the phones were nearly un-usable.

For friends 9yo child any suggestions? Needs to be reasonably good at streaming media (Spotify, BBC sounds some YouTube), homework (think they use Google) and have an mini SD card slot for some extra storage. 10 inch screen and budget of around £100. I picked up a tablet a few years back but it is no longer available and was a fairly cheap one, charger is awful mini USB so a USB-C charging port would be better. He had one but unfortunately it has bitten the dust.

You'd prob need to find out the TCP/UDP ports been used and allow them. TBH I'd prob look at disabling the firewall on the AV product and use Windows firewall that you can use with group policy to set the allowed traffic. If its a Windows service it might even be as a named application rather than jus relying on ports.

We ran PRTG at a previous place. I think you get 100 sensors free but it is easy to run out once you find out what you can monitor.

You might be able to find a license key on ebay. That is what I did for Dell R730 with iDrac8 server at home.

Check SIP ALG settings on firewall and try disabling it. Always a good idea to have voice on it's own vlan as others have done, this stops noisy traffic causing interference.

I've been buying refurbed Dell Latitude as a Laptop but I also have a Work PC (low consumption 20w, run VPN, RDP mainly) and an old Xeon based server (140w) for Video, Music production and CADCAM. As others have said, stick with what you know or ask what yourself what you need it for. MAC is nearly always going to be more expensive and possibly limited upgradability once you pay for it. I ran Linux for 1 year on both work and server used for Video/CADCAM but it jus did not get on with Teams, our VPN and was too much involved in learning new CADCAM application when I can get a Fusion free that does most of what I want.

I think another issue you need to consider is vlans unless you have phones and APs on the same vlan. And as far as the AP goes does it need to have vlans tagged?

I don't think a splitter is best idea for this though as you need both devices to have power. Can you not get electrician to put a fused spur in for a PoE switch, this would be another good option and give you possibilities later on. You could get an in wall AP that has multiple wired ports, some of these can provide PoE on a port to supply a phone. I had some Cisco 145 in walls that do this but there are other makes too.

Yes but you can host in the cloud if need be. It depends how many devices you are talking about but it is the best option security wise as no PSK is needed. I'm using MPSK at home running freeradius on a few docker hosts, each device gets a complex pre-shared key. The issue you are always going to have is the security of that key that is where radius has the advantage plus more. A PSK per device or user is still probably better than one PSK though.

802.1x for managed devices, you don't have to bother then, jus need to deploy the cert to the devices each year before the old one runs out.

Are you on the smoothwall pointing the route for a bigger subnet or jus moving one subnet at a time to the Juniper? What you might be able to do is give a lower route metric to the ones you are moving off to the Juniper so they get routed correctly?

Making music or more to the point jus creating musical noise :-) . Most of my hobbies involved a PC (CADCAM, 3d printing, DAW, desktop video) which became tiresome as working from home 3 days a week so invested in some old and new synth hardware so not reliant on a PC. Running, volunteering at parkrun and Jui-Jitsu regularly keeps me out of the house. I don't watch MSM so it is Netflix and YouTube when I'm not doing any of the above.

I'd stay away from Inkjets if the printer is seldom used. I bought a Brother Laser printer for home about 4 years back and it is still going strong on it's original toner but I've had Inkjets dry out. The laser cost about £300, does colour, networked and Double sided prints. Had a few M400 series at a previous place and they were fine too.
