I'm currently investigating an issue with audio quality on a 3CX system. Randomly throughout a call we seem to lose the audio from the external caller. Our SIP trunk provider has looked at captures their end and indicated the issue is from our end. I have run some wireshark traces on the 3CX server on site but cannot see anything obvious. Can anyone point me in the right direction of what to look at? Cheers

Morning all, We are having some issues with our Avaya ip office system over our new MPLS. The phones at our new site will not ping our phone server at our current site. Our engineers and the 3rd party support have no further ideas. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance

One of my schools has an aging Toshiba POTS system which is getting increasingly unreliable. I've been asked by their headship to look into voip for them as a matter of some urgency. Normally this wouldn't be an issue, but this particular school has about a dozen elderly unmanaged non-poe switches and no more than 1gig interlinks between switches. We knew the day would come for this equipment, but it seems to have come now! All of this is budgeted and scheduled for replacement in the next academic year, but the current phone system is needing to be rebooted multiple times a week, sometimes a day and obviously this is becoming a safeguarding risk so I've been asked to look into it right now. I know it's not advisable but does the hive mind think it's feasible for it to run satisfactorily for a few months on the flat network with POE injectors? My other option is to make a huge fuss to my MAT to bring the switch and interlink work forward?

Hello all I am making this post to introduce my new company, EdTechPro. You will see our advert banners across Edugeek this month (November). EdTechPro's Portal is a solution that enables schools and Multi-Academy Trusts (MATs) to seamlessly integrate their phone systems with Management Information Systems (MIS). This integration provides instant caller identification, call history visibility, and the ability to log pupil attendance within seconds — ensuring a faster, more personalized communication with your school’s stakeholders. EdTechPro offers free trials to schools that would like to see the benefits within their schools - we support all major MIS systems (including SIMS!) At the moment we support 3CX, but we can almost always support Screen Popping as a feature on the majority of PBXs. Features are: Caller Identification: Automatically displays the caller’s identity (parents, students, staff, UK schools, or UK businesses) on the phone handset. Screen Popping: Instantly shows the relevant MIS profile on the call handler’s computer, saving 10–15 seconds per call. Caller History: Gives call handlers a complete history of automatically logged past interactions, including who they spoke with, times, and any notes from previous calls. Safeguarding Notices: Alerts call handlers to any active court orders as soon as they answer. Attendance Logging: Enables quick attendance logging for entire families in a fraction of the time, with cases as fast as 20 seconds for a family of four. Please do check out our website or PM me to learn more. Thanks Haroon

Does anyone have a contact at VOIP Unlimited that they could DM Me details for. My contact seems to have moved on and I have a question about a quote they prepared for me.

Afternoon people. We are looking at a new phone system for our office. Around 30-40 people. Anyone used the Samsung officeServ 7200 and got any information about them? Just in the final stages of processing the quote before it goes ahead and want to make sure its a sound unit etc. Thanks in advance!

Hi All Is there anyone out there running Asterisk with a BT ISDNe circuit? Particularly the FreePBX 2.11 distro I'm having a little issue that I'm hoping someone could advise me with. Cheers

Hey all, Is there any Cisco Call Manager experts? We currently use Callmanager and all is working fine and am happy doing the day to day config but over the Summer we have a local primary coming on board and we will need someone to help us set up the routing of there number on call manager. Also we've had real trouble getting voicemail to work so would be great if that could be looked at the same time. Anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks Simon

I'm looking at different IAX trunk providers (IAX over SIP due to the difference in firewall port opening requirements) but am struggling to find one that comes close to the price we pay for normal analogue lines. The main difference is the price of mobile calls - they all seem extortionate with these SIP/IAX trunk providers - eg. 8p+ per minute compared to 2.75p with existing companies. Has anyone found such a provider that works out cheaper?

Hello, I was wondering if anyone is using Cisco phones with SIP? I am looking for the UK locate pack if anyone can help me please? Thanks

Hi who is using pc plugged into VOIP phone? any problems? also any recommendations for VOIP phones in general. looking at probably trixbox.

Hi folks, Looking for some contacts or suppliers who install, setup Mitel VOIP systems. We have Mitel CS-5200 systems in some of our sites and as well as using our current supplier, I want to see if I can get a better deal elsewhere as they seem to be a bit overpriced. I can therefore can all quotes together and choose the best one. So any advice or supplier you may know will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Mo

Hi. Is there anyway of checking which external numbers have dialed our school on our Avaya system? Thank you

Hello all, Has anyone else had problems with Wavenet? We joined Atomwide a few years ago and they were great, Adept bought them and things went downhill (had no phones for 3 weeks during covid) but for most part it functioned but now Wavenet are the owner, I'm having awful problems and just can't seem to get ahold of anyone. I've had what I believe is a small job open since January and I don't get updates anymore (meanwhile the user this side thinks I'm doing nothing and is moaning to anyone who will listen). I've emailed my sales manager a couple of times but nothing, I called the customer service number and I didn't get a call back and have updated my ticket 3 times since calling them but still no updates in over 2 weeks. I raised a complaint with them over a week ago and other than an automated ticket number and 1 update a week ago on my open ticket saying they would ask the team for an update, I have nothing and the frustration is building. Has anyone else had this service from them and if so, what did you do? I just need this small job off my desk, but the longer this lingers on, the more annoyed I get and my lack of trust in them dwindles further. Their reviews are great so is it just me?

We're doing pre-deployment testing of a 3CX system and finding out that the 3CX firewall documentation* makes assumptions that aren't valid in school networks and differs quite a bit from the actual 3CX system defaults (hosted in our case). Would someone mind posting their firewall rules for 3CX so I can sanity check against ours? I'm particularly interested in what you've got for Direct SIP phones (no SBC, talk directly to 3CX over the internet) at primaries. cheers Pete *https://www.3cx.com/docs/manual/firewall-router-configuration/ and https://www.3cx.com/docs/ports/

Does anyone have a SNOM PA1 on their network? Speakers on ours works but when we call the number it doesn't work, any suggestions?

We've secured a really good deal on subscriptions and handsets for our Hosted Telephony service for a limited period. If anyone is in the market in the next 8-10 weeks, PM and hopefully will be of interest to you. All the features you would expect, free handsets, free calls, free softclients, adds/moves/changes included as well as self-service for those that want it.

Looking at Yealink T40 for normal users but not sure what to get for Reception.

We are looking into if we should enable the capability in our phone system to record calls. We can set a warning telling incoming callers that all calls are recorded via the Auto Attendant. What do we do for outgoing calls? Do Staff have to say 'this call will be recorded' for every call they make to external numbers? What do other schools/organisations do?

Howdy, Primary school is looking forward a little to the future, as we've a standard ol' ISDN system in place at the moment. Not a huge amount of money, but not far from 1.5k per year. A brief look around SIP trunk providers and systems shows we can make significant savings but the numbers seem to either be too good to be true or I'm missing something important! So let's say I was to put in place a PBX, hook up a bunch of Yealink phones that leaves me with getting those out into the wide world of telephony. So, SIP trunk required. There's prices going from £13 per channel (BT) right down to a quid per channel. Gamma comes up quite often and I see a year old link with info £4.40 per channel per month. Plus £85 connection fee, £20 to port a number... is there anything else that should be added to that cost? There's DDI's involved but can't quite get my head around those fully, but believe we need 4 of those. Does anyone have any pearls of wisdom, preferably with numbers? There's too much "Call/email us for details!" or fearmongery emails going round saying "You must act now, speak to us for details and prices" with very little actual information other than "We can save you money!"

I currently have an issue at one of my sites, even with internal calls on our LAN. Basically, the calls go through fine, both sides can hear each other and then randomly it'll go silent for 5-10 seconds, and then back to normal. The phones are in their own dedicated VLAN, with QoS enabled. Latency between the server and handsets is 6ms maximum. The only thing is, there's a wireless link in place for the other extension. However, all the monitoring data I have is showing that the connection is stable, with no latency spikes etc... Can anyone advise why these dropouts may be happening?

We're looking into a new phone system for the school (700 students 80 staff) to replace an old system, so naturally we're looking towards VoIP. It seems there are 2 ways around it, either an onsite PBX system like Lync or 3CX, or a cloud system like Skype or Sendhub. Other than not being able to have a full desk phone with a cloud system what are the main differences between the 2 types? This could easily be a very silly question but at the moment I can't really see why you'd have an on site system when you could just install Skype on all the machines and give the staff USB handsets.

I am intending to migrate our custom build of Asterisk from its 7 year old server to a VM this summer, with a Sangoma Vega 50 4 port FXO interface connecting it to the outside world. I was hoping to move us to Trixbox, as it would make the system more "standardised", but it appears that the project has been killed off. So, what is the go to package for a quick and easy out of the box install of Asterisk? Is it the FreePBX distro? Elastix? AsteriskNOW?

What do you guys use for areas which require Wireless Handsets? Our Heads of House need cordless devices - my idea was to get a Dect Base with multiple wireless handsets which can each be configured for separate Extensions from that base - Is that possible? Toby
