  1. Hi all Here's a noodle twist for you. Our setup is a SCCM 2007 R2 SP2 setup [an elaborate multi server setup too ] and everything seems to work a treat. For those that dont realise, MDT is such a welcome addition to SCCM. Makes alot of stuff so much the sweeter, but I digress slightly. With our MDT infused SCCM TS, everything works a treat except for two niggles I have. 1: When deploying [from PXE] a captured SCCM Win7 OS build on a machine, everything works great - however, it doesnt place the computer object into the target OU that it has been told to in the Task Sequence. This also seems to apply in other uses of the TS i.e. running a Refresh using it etc, however, everything else seems to work fine i.e. Driver Injection, Software Update installs, Additional Software installs, Model Specific checks, etc. Seems to just be the comp obj that wont get moved to where I tell it. EDIT: Just tried it from fresh using PXE, with no computer object in AD, and SCCM with MDT put the computer object in to the correct OU I'm happy to say. However, I wager that if i move the AD object somewhere and then try again [leaving the computer object in AD] but just advertising it again, it wont move anywhere. The latter two posts in the following thread seem to ring two to what I have: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/configmgrosd/thread/ba2b4689-75f1-48f3-8350-e0ca2fef3711 however, I've tried the following script previously and I didnt get any joy with it: http://blog.coretech.dk/scripting/vbscript-move-computer-object-to-another-ou-via-command-line-parameter/ Could be I'm just missing something.... 2: The other niggle is that when rebuilding a machine in any sense, it creates a new SCCM computer object rather than reuse the existing one, causing there to be two objects. The one used at the time of (re)deployment is set to Obsolete and the AD computer ojbect association is set to the new one, tho the new one of course then isnt linked to Collections where it is needed, which isnt a problem at the moment, but will mess things up later on down the line. Just wondering if there is some option / command i can use to stop that happening, and additionally a command i can use (if it can continue to use the existing SCCM obj, rather than create a new one) that will allow me to remove / add the object to a collection as part of the deployment TS? Hope that makes sense, These two things are a bit annoying and i'm running out of time to get them working so any thoughts / ideas / help would be really appreciated here with this. [have given up with posting on the MS forums as u either get a poster reword your question and posing that as the answer etc hehe ] Cheers. Nathan
  2. Still having issues with this? We found that, with regards to a SCCM + MDT setup, that it didnt put the boot files over that were needed for PXE booting when it came to the x64 boot image. Could that be similar to your issue perhaps? Cheers Nath
  3. Yeah hehe know the feeling. I've been using Replace and seems to do the trick for reg settings at least
  4. Actually, if you are replacing an existing association, I think you'll need to choose Replace so that it replaces it, as Create will only create it if it doesnt exist. Thats how Reg GPP's worky anyhow Amusingly tho, I cant seem to find the GPP File Associations section you are refering to hehe Care to share? Nath
  5. it was the version part of my post i think. But happy days, the entry is there and I've been able to eliminate that 'orrible Bing-a-ling-ding from thy Browser. Many thanks bmdixon Nath
  6. Thanks for this. Have already downloaded it earlier but didnt get a chance to look at it etc so I'll have a game of "spot the difference" in the morning and see whats occurin' Cheers Nath
  7. @ZH: Okey dokey... will add ya tomorrow (just signed off it hehe). @CAM: Hmmm... that sounds strange. Cant see why K+M wouldnt be fully supported. I'd wager some hard core folk would be religiously of that ilk and SE would be accomodating accordingly hehe I would suspect that any GUI based glitches they might not bother to implement on the open beta environment, as they've probably got them fixed in the retail environment thats apparently running parallel to the open beta. Will likely be on again at some point tomorrow night so give me a /tell if you notice im online as i'd like to see what things breaks. If you notice anything, theres a Bug Submission on the main menu somewhere tbh, i've been working out the controls as i go along, but I have got me PS3 controller hooked up and working with it Its strange they dont let us chat about issues on their "dev" forums tbh, but guess they just think everyone will fill them with rubbish etc hehe Cheers Nath.
  8. hehe yeah.... managed that alright. However it doesnt appear..... stupid XML rubbish Not sure what the VERSION is meant to be so I put '1' being I cant find any DWORD's there... actually... I may as well paste what I've got so far... SearchProvider.admx: Google http://www.google.com/favicon.ico http://www.google.co.uk/search?q={searchTerms}&sourceid=ie7&rls=com.microsoft:{language}:{referrer:source}&ie={inputEncoding?}&oe={outputEncoding?} SearchProvider.adml: Set IE 8 SearchProviders Sets the Search Providers in IE 8 using Group Policy Populate List of search providers This policy setting will let you populate a list of search providers that will be displayed in Internet Explorer's search box. If you enable this policy setting and if the "Restrict search providers to a specific list of search providers" Group Policy setting is enabled, this list will be the only list that appears in the Internet Explorer drop-down list. If the "Add a specific list of search providers to the user's search provider list" Group Policy setting is enabled, this list will be added to the user's list of search providers. If you disable this policy setting or do not configure it, users will have complete freedom to create their own search provider list. EDIT: Seems its not happy when its parsing... i get this: Any help here would be great coz Bing is just an annoyance and once sorted, should be able to set the default using this.... once it works As a side note, has anyone found any decent tutorials [aka not the masses of rubbish on MS's TN site hehe] on making admx/l's? Once I get the hang of it, it should make things a bit easier... i hope. Cheers for any assist. Nath
  9. bmdixon.... or anyone for that matter.... I must be having a dense moment but followed the admx + adml route, and i while i get that those types auto load into the GPMC in Win7, I cant see the settings to enable anywhere Any clue as to what im doing wrong there? [its for Win7 with IE8 btw] Cheers Nath
  10. Not sure tbh. I'll have to reread everything, but being a Open Beta, im sure they wont mind this So long as we stick to what we are saying currently... but then again, its gonna release in about 16/17 days so....
  11. Initial post updated some more - req specs etc. Interesting side note but its pretty awkward to get around from the off if your in a different city to another person you want to team up with. I've started in Gridania so if your in my world and have started in that city / town / area, give me a /tell Nath
  12. I'll assume ur not on it yet, and pick a server then I'll update my first post with what server im on when I'm done. You can guess my handle i think Adios. Nath
  13. Hi all Just a quick one... As of now, the beta site is open to beta sign ups: FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Test Application Site (you'll need a SE account - free to sign up - link on that page). Update: The Open Beta itself FINISHES on the 19th so get your skates on if your thinking of trying it. I'm in the Besaid world - PM me for more info as to hookin up etc. Just a FYI really, but PM me if you want to team up etc blah. Also, its worth noting that the required specs are fairly high and treat them as the bare minimum: OS: Windows® XP SP3 *1 Windows Vista® 32-bit / 64-bit SP2 *2 Windows® 7 32-bit / 64-bit *2 CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo (2.0 GHz) AMD Athlon X2 (2.0 GHz) RAM: Windows XP: 1.5 GB Windows Vista / Windows 7: 2 GB Hard Disk Space: Installing: 15 GB Downloading: 12 GB on the drive containing the My Documents folder *3 Graphics: NVIDIA® GeForce® 9600 or higher VRAM 512 MB Radeon™ HD 2900 or higher VRAM 512 MB Sound: DirectSound® compatible (DirectX® 9.0) Internet Connection: Broadband (constant connection) Monitor Resolution: 1280 x 720 or higher; 32-bit DirectX: DirectX 9.0c Other: Mouse, Keyboard, Gamepad *4 *1 Windows XP users should install, run, and update the game using administrator settings. *2 When using a 64-bit OS, the game will run on WoW64 (Windows on Windows 64). *3 The amount of free space required on the drive containing your My Documents folder has been temporarily changed to reflect an increase in additional data not covered by the beta test installer. *4 A gamepad is recommended, but not required to play the game. There is the official Benchmark program you can use to get a idea of how great [or not so great] your machine can cope with the game. http://www.finalfantasyxiv.com/media/benchmark/eu/ (there's instructions on that page on what to do with it) If anyone wants any info on setting up the beta, or has trouble downloading the client files, reply on the thread and I might add some instructions to this post as it can take forever otherwise Note: They've fixed the download servers although you may need to get some of the files first. The patcher should update first [it'll be a red background] in any case and should take care of it. Regards Nath.
  14. also, I've seen in the past where the user has managed to save the file with the path long, but not too long, and then in their profile, the Recent folder entry makes the path go over the limit and cause them logon problems with their profile. So something to be wary of there too Nath
  15. Are you sure that it can find the HDD at all? have you implemented mass storage drivers in the normal that that you have done previously? Of course, depending on the machine that you are trying to use it on of course Nath.
  16. ev32: can you tell us.... a) what version of Exchange you are using? b) what version of Outlook? or is it multiple versions and are all versions having the same issue? c) Have you altered anything in IIS on the Exchange CAS server? Or, as I found, have you rebooted that box recently? I have to alter IIS each time I reboot the box in order to get OAB to work properly... spent ages going around the houses trying to look at different things and in the end, adjusting the permissions in the OAB folder (and replicated down) fixed it and been working great ever since..... until I reboot it again, I just have to replicate the perms down again. Obviously, use extreme caution with that if it is public facing (ours isnt) as you dont want to expose anything to the public really. Cheers Nath
  17. Perhaps they can be told (re: forced) into doing some "how to use a computer" type of training course locally, or even knock up some common issues self help guides so that they can follow. I know I've done that before.... hell... i still do Failing that, get their and/or your manager involved. Its the only other way I'm afraid. Especially if its a case of "oh, I cant be bothered to do what he tells me" kind of attitude. It certaily wouldnt be acceptable the other way around i wager Good luck. Nath
  18. To be honest, if they are just using those "group" ones on a one to one basis, a shared mailbox is a bit overkill. You may as well just mail enable the security groups you have setup for the purpose and mail enable them - turning them into distribution groups. A shared mailbox for just one user would be a little pointless really, unless you have multiple people needing access to the email from a certain "group" email address and that they need to send externally. The only real advantage I've found with shared mailboxes is: - useful should it be likely peoples roles change alot and that the new person needs to see the emails that have already been sent to that address (otherwise a distribution list is fine) - with a bit of cleverness (i can help with this) a shared mailbox can be set so when people send from it, it places the sent items into the shared mailbox sent items and then useful to keep track of who responds to what, in a situations like public queries, etc. And i wouldnt use Public Folders at all if its a new setup. No real need for them (exchange 2010 wise) and MS always seem to tout that they are gonna remove them etc in each version so shows what they think of them Right, back to work for me...
  19. Guess this one has you all stumped.... It has with me so far and google is just not being kind to me on this one I guess i'll have to create thread on TechNet (that will end up in suggestions of what I've put but reworded hehe) Let me know if you come up with any ideas. I'm still all ears Cheers
  20. Hi Ryan and welcome to the forum Dont know if you are aware of this regarding HiJackThis but you dont have to use the installer at all.... they have it as a single executable (have done for years) which you can get here: HijackThis - Trend Micro USA (direct link: http://www.trendmicro.com/ftp/products/hijackthis/HijackThis.exe ) it has a few command line parameters, that seem to be in-place, even from before its Trend days i.e.: Command line switches for hijackthis? You could certainly make a little script that would copy the executeable to the computer from some network share location easily, although I wager that it was never fully developed enough to be run fully automated (due to the nature of what it can do) so any of that will be a bit limited, but at least to just get it on the machines so you can run it easier, its just a matter of using something like: copy \\server\share\hijackthis.exe %SystemDrive%\HiJackThis\ /Y but if you're looking to make batch scripts, you need to google around for some tutorial sites on how to form them. Too tired to have a quick look but there is some good stuff out there. Good luck. Nath.
  21. Dunno if you have been through it but check out the migration guides on here: Exchange Server 2010: Exchange 2010 Help I havent seen the bit for 2003 to 2010 but I wager that upgrading the OS probably isnt the best idea. As an example, I upgraded a Win 2008 server to Win 2008 R2 which only had the KMS services on it and it stil failed to keep anything of my KMS setup so had to remind meself what to do, and in the end, I just wiped the machine and started again. Its probably an expected thing with KMS services, but its just an example of how a OS upgrade might not take into consideration of the stuff you have on the machine - even when the only stuff on the server in question is Microsoft's own software. You better off i think introducing a physically new server and taking it from there - with the migration path shown and suggested in that link. For info: I cant quite remember where i saw it but Exchange 2010 is better on the RAM usage facto, athough of course, you probably need more initially in the first place Nath
  22. Moved thread to correct forum area
  23. Hi all Here's a little interesting one. We have a user that, for reasons I cant go into, would (if its possble) like to use a shared mailbox as his default mailbox rather than his own mailbox. Cant seem to google anything on doing this, as crazy as it sounds. I wager that I could do something like a rewrite kind of Transport Rule to make it appear that he's sending from this shared mailbox, but just wondering if anyone knows or can suggest a proper way to do it. We are on Exchange 2010 btw, but alot of things from Exch 2007 would apply so if u have a suggestion basd on 2007, I'm all ears too Many thanks to any that can help us with this little monkey
  24. Just for info, the A2Z page doesnt have the correct link at the moment, so here it is: WinAudit v2.28.2 - Free Computer Audit Software Cheers
  25. While they do work together, you can also use MDT by itself and run it off a workstation - with the propriate other stuff of course for PXE / network deployment....but you'd probably best using it in conjunction with WDS. But yeah, either works. Or if you really want to confuse things, add SCCM into the mix too Nath.
