It doesnt suprise me with EA and their attitude to DRM and support of games, they have always had the attitude "We have your money, now f*** off" All the BF games have been popular, but its had large documented periods of support being absolutely terrible on those games and patching them, they may make some truly great games but their attitude as a company really is awful when it comes to their customers, I think from the various games of theirs I have played over the years. The whole issue of DRM has put me completely off Simcity here and I used to enjoy the games in the series.

I forgot to mention earlier on, that we use this buffalo as small Media drive and share it on our network without using credentials on this particular share for our staff only, which probably has bearing on my replies in the thread, we basically wanted the device to work in exactly the same manner as our previous buffalo linkstation worked (no authentication on the share with it just sharing the directories), what I changed in the registry has worked for our NAS device and we are checking everything for any problems to date, but havent found anything amiss since we made those changes, aside from the buffalo being properly mapped finally to our site.

We have decided to ignore it for now where I work I think as a consensus and stick with 7 and office 2010, I like it though and I use it and I also use Office 2013 and like that a lot, but I can see a nightmare for us support wise with the start menu change, its just too radical for a desktop environment, I don't get why M$ rolled that out to everything, in my mind Metro should have been their mobile version (iOS compared to the OSX of the main product). The fact that the consensus of people I talk to about it, have a major instant dislike to it, even talking to a few pupils at the school I work, they tell me that they hate it themselves those who have it on their new laptops, thats never a good sign for an OS I think, mass market hating the product.

ours is now solved, there were four registry entries that we had to set with GPP now and the device is visible properly and maps without issue. Subnets were always fine with us, the Linkstation was always visible even on machines it refused to map, it could be pinged fine, just point blank refused to map. Those are the settings for those wondering that have solved it for us.

it may appear brighter than the old bulb, should be fitted in same way as previous bulb too, else you can point them up a bit (I managed to do that on my mondeo many moons ago, the MOT tester was nice enough to correct that for me too, was the vehicles only fault in fairness)

It thought with this crisis as well that it cant be a surprise to a lot of people, because when you look at the packet in things like sausages from the "big four" and see things like 45% meat content, people cannot honestly think that it isn't all of those by-products and rubbish anyway to make up that other 55%. I have gone very "Anti-eating" sh*t the last couple of years here myself and look at a lot of the stuff I buy contents wise. A lot of people are content though it seems to "believe the illusion" when it comes to products and actually blindly follow a brand/supermarket rather than read the contents, which is why I am glad in a way this thing has happened, because at last people can see the illusion isn't there anymore when it comes to their £1 lasagne having beef in it, over spending an hour and cooking a meal together. Convenience always comes at a cost.

It doesnt suprise me hugely and that is the worrying thing, the apathy and complete lack of suprise to this stuff I find, I am a bit concerned, but not overly as I have always tried to use local butchers for mince/sausage and meat purchases, supermarket meat tends to be pretty bland and tasteless stuff I find when you buy cuts/mince from them. Shows though if anything what goes on when they try and drive prices down, but this is what our government/mass population want rather than going to a local shops with locally sourced produce. What I find more alarming is that these meats when slaughtered get bounced around the different countries for various parts of the cutting and processing, which to me actually introduces the chance of tampering occuring into the food chain. I will wager not much will be done here though overall, though the government might prove me wrong and bang them all up for their involvement along with all the bankers that were jailed for bringing our country to its knees financially.

I would say try it out for yourself really, its better you get an idea for it by having a go OS distros are a good place to start with the "popular" ones being listed here - DistroWatch.com: Put the fun back into computing. Use Linux, BSD. I would recommend trying Ubuntu/Fedora/Centos

Windows 8 I would say as well, the start menu change at the beginning is a LOOOT to get used to(I hated it at first and ended up downgrading initially, before biting back and trying it kickin and screaming), but after a bit of perseverance you will see how much better that OS is, it has some truly lovely features and works largely flawlessly, images also seem a lot sharper to me than previous versions of windows. The change to begin with is the worst thing, but its worth it when you get over it I feel.

I would actually get a Macbook pro before that on the price basis alone, the whole "brushed metal" look is being overdone now to death as well with the laptop manufacturers I think.

Skydrive is integrated well through the app, I find on the PC in windows (it helps that I also log onto this machine with my hotmail account), the UI is also much improved on the website now. Dropbox is used at the moment primarily by me as an alternative backup to iCloud for my iphone (I will probably get rid of my iPhone after its contract is up and go back to Android based phone's here, as I just don't buy into the whole "apple" ethos and the iphone just isn't me, it feels wrong for me as a phone, I am also fed up of the battery issue I have on it as well as it dying on my 4S because of updates not being tested by apple) Grooveshark and most online services I log onto through Google and use that as a unilogin where possible, which stops it being laboursome with these online websites. Google stuff I either use via the website or the outlook installed on my PC and it works well enough. Only thing I would say, is its obviously a bit of a pain in the a**e using a lot of "different yet samey" services for different things. Ubuntu account I have just been playing with a bit on and off while I use Linux on my machine, of all accounts its nothing serious in its usage.

I am fairly cloud orientated looking at it now, I switched all my Docs and Photos to Skydrive here about 3 months back now(lucky enough to have an old account with the 25gb limit for free here), I dont host my music online (fairly small music collection here really, about 20 CDs or less) but I use streaming services really like youtube/grooveshark quite a lot more than hosting stuff on my PC, all my games currently installed are also through steam at the moment or other services like blizzard stuff being off their website rather than physical media based installations. Use my Google account as main email and calendar based stuff. I also have accounts with Dropbox and Ubuntu one from their services

Only thing I think I would not do on that website, is have contact details on the home page, because bots can potentially have a field day with that information and get you spammed, I would hide them away well on the contact us page rather than have them featured like that, other than that the website is very impressive I think

I forgot to add, another thing that will no doubt cause problems is that staff then, will continue to use files long since created in those old versions of Office, we have stuff still being used here in 97-2003 format still popping up and causing problems, because "thats the file they have always used" Hence us getting everyone up to the same platform where we can, to eliminate these things happening for us.

we found in our school that it was just better getting everyone up to a same level when it comes to this stuff, our admin machines were all 2003 until recently, while our curriculum side were all 2010 and it was causing havoc when people were sending files across versions, even the compatibility pack does not help massively. What I would say, is try and get your office versions up as high as possible, from my experience, the higher the version the easier it is to open files from previous versions. (If your with an EES education agreement for your M$ Products your laughing because it covers you for all the newest versions) and support ends for 2003 versions of office from next year along with windows XP. Failing that as others have suggested try the openoffice varieties of programs and see if they open the newer based files better than your version of office with the compatibility pack installed.

would recommend the 905, previous tech insisted on getting it at the school I work at and whereas he could not/did not use it (several cable failures on wiring jobs that he and a previous DT technician did on the site) I can use it though and it saves a lot of time and effort, though its not cheap that's for sure, good for reporting though, I had to check a department and found 7 out of 28 cable fails with this device and could make a lovely report out of it all for the SLT

I want to clarify myself from earlier, as I said, my wife owns the console here, I never said I don't enjoy it or like playing on it, it works well and even provides us iPlayer on a TV here in the bedroom, (I am also a long time fan of nintendo here, having owned a N64 and still play on the Wii) I just have felt since the N64 onward that they targeted primarily a younger audience than their console peers when it came to consoles, maybe its to do with their "generic" brand games (Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda, Pokemon), as opposed to Xbox having what I think is its more grown up Halo franchise, PS using things like Tekken Series, at least from my personal pov (I realise a lot of the games get released on all platforms, but they don't market a lot of them at Wii it seems) Even Wii's online stuff is fairly child orientated I think with the whole design your own "Wii" character area behind its online based stuff compared to the alternative online networks of the other consoles.

I owned a dreamcast, was probably the best console that I owned, in terms of enjoyment out of it and being able to play straight out of Arcade games, I had about 18 months of it before, Sega pulled out of the console market and I offloaded mine about evens for what I spent on it, I cannot help that Sega failed because they essentially tried to clone the Megadrive and update it a tiny bit with the Saturn, it was a lazy console for them, Dreamcast was much better. Though it was probably same at the time as the Wii U seems to be, in that it had older specced hardware (the 33.6kbps modem being one of the glaringly obvious things in the cast as 56k had been the norm for years then) compared to other consoles that came out after it My opinion of the Wii is that its too cartooney in games and aimed at younger gamers, from what I have seen of my Wife's one and sisters, more adult games dont seem to do well on the platform.
