it is strange how its ended on a fairly "quiet" point of the books with the season end, the red wedding is a hell of a lot to get through though, its probably one of the nastiest points of all the books, I have to say though, it is impressive though the closeness to the books that HBO have kept it, only a few minor off canon moments in the series so far.

That's why spiceworks was excellent I though, network scanning made it so much better, easier to have the machines work for us, it is a pain doing the tagging and marrying them up to the scan, but its a one time job when you do initial setup, you can expand it for other items and non-it stuff too, just takes time to setup

I myself assumed at the end of that episode that Hurt was the "Original" time lord from Gallifrey, who became "The Doctor" after his actions in the time war, that was the "persona" that he took on after his actions there, so Hurt was the "Original" time lord (incarnation Zero) I thought and everything else afterwards was done as "The Doctor". I also believe what others do in the thread that the series has suffered a lot because of the writing, way too much on Rory and Amy I felt, no real "big baddies" at all, overall I think the writing has been poor for a while, that being said, potentially it looks awesome in November now if they deliver after that episode.

I should iterate, that Spiceworks can be very "love it or hate it", but I would say try it first and see (make sure you disable a lot of the default scans and lower their interval as well), I myself didnt even like it at first, but I have persevered with it and for the way I manage the school I work ins IT inventory, it ticks all the boxes and works well here for free. I just didn't see the benefits for our school over it for SAM when the rep was here, because we had an existing solution in place for free with no costs, we are primarily a fixed desktops environment, where machines generally do not move unless I remove them for repair, so for our school, it just was not worth the money to install over our existing spiceworks installation, the ipod is a nice idea, but a bit of a gimmick I felt for the scanning and I did not fancy our inventory data being kept on a third party website either.

We had the rep call here and show us it as he doorstepped our bursar, she was interested in it for non-IT, I looked at the product with him, before killing it dead, by saying that we use spiceworks for our IT asset management which is free. Its not bad for a free product Spiceworks and I would recommend it, if you have an old machine to run it on as it can be a bit of a resource hog, it scans the network and automatically adds in the devices you have and all data is kept in house of your inventory, which is a plus, no need to access external websites and it does offer lots of additional features for free.

The Veeam I got off their website does install small agents onto the servers from what I have seen, they are fairly small, I avoided installing it full program wise onto either host here, because of the SQL server it wanted to install and I did not want our hosts being impacted by that running on them, so I assume we would install it onto our "backup server" and not the hosts ? (I think I am starting to confuse myself here) Can any of you tell me where you got your Veeam from then ? we have a quote here that looks like this from one supplier, which I suppose means that both machines are in Tier B as they have 8 cores installed with the 2 processors, no mention of Veeam One - Hopefully lunchtime can cure my headache about this

So am I right in this that our servers would come under "Tier B – 1-12 Cores" - in the pricing that I am looking at for it ? or does the processor licensing only apply to the box that you are installing VEEAM onto ? Also, do you run VEEAM also on each of your hosts or do you run it on ANOther server, like I am doing at present and backing up remotely to that box? (I ask because I was a little bit wary of installing the software direct onto our platform initially here)

It didnt ask specifically for SCVMM when I installed, it asked me to choose the option for how our VM setup is configured (we have it as a stand-alone clustered platform) SCCM is a bit of a contentious issue with our LEA I believe (Schema needs updating I think we were told to allow sites like ours to run it - SCCM does interest me a fair bit personall)

Hello, I have been trialling the product at our site with @garethedmondson on our new hyper-v platform and it is very impressive software. Can you automate backups on the free edition ? (I see the option to switch between the views on the program) or does that require purchase of the full version ? What devices do you back your VMs up to also ? At the moment I have one of our smaller specced servers as the backup server. We do not run our own exchange server, that is run and maintained by our LEA, so that part is probably not needed for us. We wonder as to what version we need to order also if we go for the full product as the licensing is tiered to processors, our machine specs in our virtualisation platform are - 2 x HP ProLiant DL380e Gen8 servers with 2 x Intel Xeon E5-2407 0 2.20GHz (basically 2x Quad Cores) and 96gb RAM installed into the machines (SAN is to be ordered soon)

You could always see this coming with M$ about the desktop changes, it was a "New Coke" to borrow off the news articles about it, it was such a fundamentally stupid change to make I thought personally, I have met very few people at all who liked the changes with 8, even the kids in the school here don't like it at all, which is never ever a good sign, they should have gone down the apple route and had two seperate OS platforms, one for mobile platforms and one for normal PCs (as much as it pains me to actually say nice things about Apple) What I don't get though, is that in their obvious QA/Beta Testing, did no one actually poll people and ask did they like these changes ? it seems to have been such a love it or hate it feature to leave an OS release balancing on. That being said, I use 8 here and after the initial screaming frustrations, I am used to it now, but it took a fair few installs and a steep learning curve to allow me to actually get past the "I hate this metro sh*t" stage, but I will say, that a lot of the new features are very welcome changes, mounting of ISOs is finally integrated, but the horror of metro detracts from that and overshadows everything else with it.

I have calls going to my mobile here, there is an extension that forwards calls directly to it and it was something that I was asked on starting, its not something that I mind when I am in work, though since I joined orange, the signal is awful on the site I work so its problematic now with calls cutting out. I get very little calls outside of my working hours at all though here, I personally make it a point though not to answer it when I am not in work and see the main school number calling me, people can leave voicemails by all means that can be dealt with when I am in work, anything else my line manager has my mobile number and can text/call me direct if needed, same for the bursar and SMT at the site.
