We use the same learning platform and make good use of it. I suppose it depends upon what you already have in place though. We implemented the system about 3 years ago. I transferred all our intranet content to the system and set it as the default website for all students. This at least made all staff and students get used to accessing it. From there one of our ICT teaching staff worked with each department to show its potential. mydesktop - used as our intranet - notices, calendar, useful documents, bookmarks, surveys, weekly bulletins. Also governors have limited access to some of this. myclasses - we have loads of these for individual classes, subjects, year groups, trips, clubs, student council, training resources. myportfolio - probably the least used part of the system, not a great deal done with this. mymail - used for all students (staff use exchange)

The only problems I've had are: 2 of the Compact Flash ROMs failed with power cuts - replaced under warranty. The internal usage counter doesn't retain information after a power off - unless you print via the USB port first - then it will retain the information. The paper tray can be temperamental - pushing it closed at the top edge of the draw over comes this. One drawback is you can't lock the printers LCD panel via the web interface.

Having read the details for this post, all the design / specification for the academy ICT has already been done. The system will be based around virtual desktops - "This will allow students more scope for innovation, creativity and curiosity in the ways ICT is used" Its a very interesting project ...

We have about 15 3800n and 6 of the newer CP3505n (both will run from the 3800 driver and use same toners) Only had a couple of small niggles, but they run like a dream. The 3505s were so cheap recently they were less than the value of toners in them, so I bought a few extra - now I have spare parts too!

You can allow certain site pop-ups via a GPO: User configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Internet Explorer > Pop-up allow list I have the following listed for testingforschools.com: testingforschools.com web00.testingforschools.com web01.testingforschools.com web02.testingforschools.com web03.testingforschools.com http://www.testingforschools.com

The training will all depend upon the school. Some offer great opportunities, others you'll be lucky if they show you how to use the coffee machine. When interviewing there are a few things I look for: Able to problem solve. Prioritising work load. Diagnostic skills - kids love to do the most basic things - unplug cables, change monitor contrast etc. Willingness to learn - things change. Some flexibility - parents evenings etc. Personality, a laugh and a joke always help during the informal parts of the process.

I use zen for my own site as well as the schools, would have been nice to have been notified of these planned outages. At least now I can say yes I know its not working, typical though I put 2 ads for teaching staff vacancies on our site Thursday.

If there are no GPOs applied to the default user folder then only the default domain policy should be having an effect. So creating an new OU and moving the users there wouldn't affect them. Do you have an XP client available that you can remotely manage the server from download Microsoft Group Policy Management Console (GPMC)? With this you can get a clearer idea of what GPOs are in place and model the effect of implementing any new GPOs.

Do you have on-demand anti-virus scanning on either the backup server or the server with the data on? I noticed on 11d that anti-virus on demand scanning can more than double the backup time. Also try the latest version of network card drivers on both servers. If you have 2 network cards, can you team them? Defraging both servers can help too.

We have a similar problem I've never managed to track down. Our OWA uses a dedicated NIC which every few hours becomes unavailable via our external ADSL line but still works internally I have a scheduled task to restart the NIC: netsh interface set interface "exchange" DISABLED netsh interface set interface "exchange" ENABLED
