A few suggestions: Does the PSU have enough power? 450+W? Try disconnecting everything else - CD drives etc, until just hard drive. I've had issues in the past with card readers / floppy drives / usb drives

Another job in Wakey - Part Time / Term Time only - closing date also Friday. @Tom - There's a couple of us here :-) You'll have to let me know if you fancy re-living your past and doing the westgate run

Yep I log issues online too, but when they refuse to repair something or its goes missing you have to call up to get anything sorted, shouting at a website doesn't give me the same satisfaction :-) Up until 3 weeks ago all our repairs were done in the UK. Our last 2 laptops though have been shipped over to Poland.

The only issues I have with HP laptops is the support / warranty. Call centres are all in India. Our laptops are now being shipped to Poland for repair (is there anyone left there to repair them??) The time it takes to repair the laptop off site. If you can afford it, go for on-site warranty, or like we will be doing next time - don't get any extra warranty, use the extra cash to buy a few spare laptops.

This is all down to policies and procedures - its not a technical issue, so let the sh1t flow up hill on this one :-) Luckily in our school the staff are told in no uncertain terms they have to take registers or face the consequences. Our policy is, a report is run 5 mins after each sessional register period. Any missing and an office duty kid is sent with a paper register and waits while it is completed. This ensures we have the statutory registers completed within 30 mins of first lesson. For lesson registers, a weekly report is run for all staff. The report is emailed to all staff, any missing registers must be completed - a check is carried out a week later. Every teacher misses the odd lesson register for one reason or another, its just a case of getting to the persistent offenders. We found if we let the situation slip, teachers get into bad habits and its hell getting back on track. As we will start to include lesson attendance in reports soon, its vital for us the data is present and accurate.

So I have now purchased a WiFi Spectrum Analyser - Metageek Wi-Spy 2.4x I bought mine from WiFigear Limited for what was a bargain £200 + vat + £6 del This fantastic gadget allows you to view what's out there on the WiFi channels. So you can avoid interference and track down offending electrical equipment. SmallNetBuilder has an in-depth review. I've now identified the interference on our site but need to do some more investigation to isolate and remove it - if possible.

Best way of spreading wireless load without managed system?
steve replied to sidewinder's topic in Wireless Networks
If the laptops have abg cards how about putting a couple of 802.11a APs? We have 3 802.11a APs each with a different SSID and 10 laptops setup for each AP. -
I have a constantly changing list of 6-8 people on a whiteboard who are ill, on maternity or pregnant. Staff are supposed to return them to us unless given an exemption. Usually if no cover is being brought in then they are allowed to keep hold. However staff can be requested to hand in the schools property at anytime.

Up to recently they sent out cheques, now they do a BACS transfer to the school accounts. We've raised about £200 this year from carts being donated from businesses, parents, etc.

How about setting up your own youtube or bubbleshare type site. Somewhere the pupils can safely share their creativity?

Computers for Schools Scheme, anyone running this yet?

We were entitled to 117, only about 20 eligible and interested. Made sure from the outset that all support comes from the suppliers. We have nothing to do with them at all :-) -

Checked that one, share permissions set to full for everyone Currently set to Windows 2000 native I'm going to do some more testing tomorrow using the whoami command.

Tried today to create a new security group and grant it permissions to a folder but no matter what I did it wouldn't allow the users in the group access. Giving the users permission, let them access the folder. The folder is on a DFS share: \\admin\share\apps\library Created group LibFld made user1 a member Granting the group LibFld ntfs full permissions to library folder results in user1 not having any access Granting the user user1 ntfs full permissions to library folder allows full access to the folder. Anyone come across this? Am I not seeing the wood for the trees?

We looked on the RM website Have you seen how weak the dollar is? All IT projects come in under budget And they all have the high expectations that the UK does Then when we know it doesn't work, we'll still go ahead with it. -
