Look like they have got there way and installing the water system. They say its for building regs. Building reg state fire suppression system. So as always it's down to cost over personal health and safety. The local authority health and safety adviser drafted an email back to my query and said "As discussed, a wet sprinkler system should not be used in areas where there are electrical installations." Strange then that the local authority are the ones for the final sign off of the building. They said the sprinklers will set off 30 degrees above ambient temp. Another point - the new server room is on first floor directly over the heat bay of DT/resistant materials, the fumes of which are vented passed the server room wall. My dolly has well an truly gone out the pram I will try to insist that should they go off that the power including the UPS is shut off. There must be a system to do this Does anyone have a health and safety risk assessment for entering a server room with sprinklers Thanks for the replies by the way

Thanks for the comments. If they force it my risk assessment will be that I will not hot swapping anything. The power to server room including UPS will be shut off first

Hello Just wanted to check I am not missing some important advancement / discovery in science where water no longer conducts electricity Moving to a new build soon and they want to install a water sprinkler system in the server room. Not sure who thought this one up, local authority or builders. I can understand the need for a fire suppression system but water…. With redundant hot swappable parts on server / switches etc, power supplies all sorts, I don’t want to be the one standing at the back of a server rack, hands in servers when the sprinkler system goes off by design or accident. Think my risk assessment will be to turn off everything including the UPS if I need to touch a piece of equipment in the server room. Kind of makes the redundant features of equipment redundant.. Any got any thoughts or is it just me! Cheers

Forget the rest. Get a yCam. Faultless. Wireless, get view on iPad mobile devices, anything with a browser. When we don't need it to monitor baby anymore I going to use it to monitor my house. Can send email if it detects movement and save recording to FTP When we stay away we take wireless router and cam. Gives us a bit more freedom.

SLT wants a couple of sets of....., You guessed it iPads Me-why SLT-Because we do Never let's get kit to solve a problem, always get kit then try and find a problem to make it fit. Think part of problem is that SLT types go to consultant lead teaching conferences, who have blue sky ideas. Nothing wrong with blue sky just needs to fit in go the school. Just a quick tot up in head (6:30 in the morning) in the last year I spent 12k just on room/office (not IT suites by the way) moves, switches, cabling etc

can you do that with an OU or Group though? You can add custom attributes to users. I have got each year intake as a custom attribute. Maybe a way round it. Or Just create a sub domain and point that at 365. Then use one for staff and one for students

On 365 you can hide staff with a powershell command. Set-Mailbox -identity joblogs -HiddenFromAddressListsEnabled $true

Drives me Mad Last year I spoke to a company and explained what I wanted to do with sharepoint 2010. He then explained what licences I needed. Great, purchased licences jobs a good un. Renewal time. Same company call to confirm (different salesman this time) and says I need different licences. So last year I was not covered. Glad I had records of conversations in case anything came up with Microsoft. Right, here is what I wanted. I wanted SharePoint 2010 initially as our intranet site. This year I wanted to expose it to the outside world. Public website and access for staff / students / governours. Even this chap said he is qualified in Microsoft licencing and that if I spoke to Microsoft they would give me a different answer. AAAHHHHHH. Could someone tell me what licences I need? We have EES and server 2008 licences What we have at the moment for this SharePoint Sharepoint for internet sites SQL2008 Any pointer would be great
