  3. You took the word from my mouth!
  4. Any Schools that have gone completely wireless with laptops. Our new build is going that way. Just interested in making a visit to somewhere that has done it and the experiences. Laptop damage, charging etc. They are even want DT (using solidworks), media and Art to use wireless on laptops. I have my views but would like to get the thoughts of others. I am in the south Cheers
  5. Also, even after being showed so many times, how hard can it be for a teacher to attach a laptop to a VGA cable for the hall projector and plug a small audio cable in. We have made it as simple as poss. Cannot think how I can make it any more idiot proof. A simple box with two buttons on and off for projector and one switch for amp. They would be blown away with how many buttons the real remote had!! Thought teachers and SLT for that matter had to pass a basic IT test to become teachers Constantly blown away with the ineptitude of these people.
  6. Just wondering how many IT staff have to do basic tasks for the admin staff because they cannot do the job. Drives me nuts. I think I am going to have to draw the line at making an excel column auto fit contents. So many requests like this. Admin member- been the corperate environment before using outlook or so the CV reads calls me can you come and add a calendar. How many of you have to create reports in SIMS? Just a bit of a rant.....
  7. Hello I have a SAM password cracker (for emergencies). Create a boot cd from the iso boot the server. It's a command line tool. Have used it here when I first took up post. I done the job for me. PM me if your interested All the best
  8. SLT and "work smarter" now there's something to think about here. Never the two shall meet!
  9. You will an ip helper address on each VLAN pointing to your dhcp server. I take it that your vlans are on different sub nets Cheers
  10. I have found the problem that was causing our problems with SIMS. Not profile problems, not SQL, not antivirus, not windows updates, not hardware, not lack of RAM The problem was with the proxy exceptions in internet explorer. Our local network is in the range 10.80.*.* As soon as I entered 10.* in the exceptions hay presto back to normal. I need to make a change a couple of weeks ago where I removed the exception. So now my question is why does SIMS need this entry? The initial start-up of SIMS was fine, just when the user needed to run reports or registers. Our DNS is tiptop, the connect.ini is correct. There must be some underlying process that I do not understand Might be worth a look for you guys! Cheers
  11. I have done lots of testing with various accounts new ones as well, making an account a domain admin still slow. Once the reports have loaded for the first time they next time they load quick. closing and restarting sims and back to square one. Capita must surley be looking at this! Well one would hope! Starting to get it in teh neck for SLT, been 2 weeks for me now. I do have one user working on a laptop that has now issues at all. AAAAHHHHHHHHH
  12. Is it possible to turn the homepage graphs of globally. We are having a nightmare at the moment. Slow registers, reports, etc. After the first load the next request is quick. Restart sims and the back to slow again. Anyone found a real answer to this
  13. At last after a few day of battling with FOG to get it to join the imaged PC to the domain I stumbled across the answer (for me anyway). Might be worth a look if others are having the same problem. What I was doing wrong was typing in the LDAP location of the OU I wanted it to join and not typing capital letters where needed. Forgot Linux is very case sensitive. So rather than typing I ran ‘dsquery ou’ and copied / pasted the LDAP string into FOG. Working great now. Now onto multicasting……. Cheers All
  14. Is it possible to turn off the messenger part of live@edu. I like the email, web apps and sky drive. Just dont like students using messenger. If they do it at home through their own PC that's up to them Cheers
  15. Anyone been involved in a new build, and I mean a network manager of an old site on the new site with yellow jacket and hard hat? Any thoughts would be good
  16. Hi Bodminman The way we do remote access is staff connect with a VPN connection, they then go to a citrix webpage (http://citrix-server/citrix/accessplatform) and log in again to get their apps or published desktop. I have had no luck with the published apps. Done the install as you said, but no joy. Banging my head on desk as I type Cheers
  17. Hi When you say the apps apperared did they show on the start menu? Cheers
  18. Cheers Bodminman that would be great
  19. G'Day When a student logs onto the XP client they get a redirected start menu and desktop. Now here is the problem We have a Citrix farm that works great for remote access but I want to use it to publish apps for students I have xenapp plugins installed on the xp client. I have published an app to a student. How can I get the published icon(s) to the start menu are desktop? (I have set the options for shortcut presentation when I published the app) I can get the applications to show on the xenapp plugin menu when you right click, but I want the whole thing to be a seamless as possible. Cheers

Lots of things to think about regards who has access to old sims data. The old data no longer belongs to you it's the property of you LA. PM me if you like went throuh it in setp 2009 Cheers
  25. Been a bsac instructor for 10 years and a Padi assistant instructor for 5 years. Done very little warm water diving, prefer to dive in the UK as wreck is my thing. This will start something.... As an instructor of bsac and padi I much prefer to teach bsac. Just think it makes for a more complete well rounded diver when you out on your own.getting your open water in the nice clear warm water then returning to the uk to dive is a recipe for trouble. Not to say padi is bad just horses for courses
