Pants, its just pants. AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Tried all sorts to get this working. Out of 104 PCs that I know are online cause i am logged into everyone of them 22 have updated ok. Solus 3 says that only 40 are online ;-( Why wont it update them then!!! Glad the SIMS server is one of the ones it updates! I resorted to using a BAT file to copy the sims.net folder from the server and overwritting the folder on the workstation. I have the hump!! Edit - By the way I only ran the Summer update version 3 Monday, today i was notified that version 4 is out. Now doing that one as well!!!

We found online a projector remote holder that screws to the wall and has a mirror at 45 degrees in the top. Teachers can get to the buttons. The remote is secured in via padlock. Trouble is they were 60-70 pounds. I had a word with our DT dept who now make them for us out of plastic. They do the job well. Haven't got round all room at the moment. So still buying a few which we charge to the departments. Saved us loads Cheers

Hello Anyone managed to get this working through a proxy server hosted at LA Part1 Wireless laptop connects to correct vsc and gets a wpad file from dhcp and then can surf the internet. Access to VSC is controlled by password. This all works. Part 2 Turn the guest access on the controller, this then brings up the inbuilt controller login page. Enter username and password (authenticated by AD). This works and brings up another default page and a session window. But now cannot browse the internet. If I then go into internet options and set the proxy the session windows closes and I can surf the net. The guest access need to be seamless so cannot have guests enter proxy settings. Anyone got a work around, my forehead has got an imprint of a brick wall now!! And yes fro our new build it will be Maru Cheers

Afternoon All What fun installing and configuration SCCM 2012 was! Anyway it up running. Our XP clients are old, some with 1GB memory and a lot with 512MB ram. I pushed the SCCM client out no problems but.. The XP clients all run Sophos. Now when a user logs in it takes forever 8-15 minutes to get to a usable open word document. The PC’s with 1GB ram are ok but still not great. Thought the SCCM client software didn’t do much / take up much resource. (and yes I have disabled the software inventory and things like that in the client). On a process monitor the CPU is around 6% but the page filing / memory is going mental. I remove Sophos (version 9.7) and the problem goes away. Anyone else experience this running Sophos? Cheers

Hi Dave_o SLT and sponsers appointed so that cant be stopped. I done a big refit of server side if things 2 1/2 years ago, VMware and 6 server xenapp farm. A lot to throw away! I cannot see the need to go full vdi and just want to put reasoned arguments on the table to SLT. Would love to come up to Rotherham, not to far for me but think to far for SLT to let me go!!!!

I'm in Buckinghamshire Does anyone have a full vdi setup that I can come and have a look at in action. We just appioneted new Ict company for a new build. There whole project Is based on vdi. It's what they can make the most amount of money on!!!!! Again no one has spoken to staff, not even the head is ict As some of the other posts I keep looking at vdi but yet to be fully convinced so a site visit would good if anyone can help.

G’Day Just about ready to move students over to live@edu. How have you guys gone about journaling all student email. Do you do it off site? (journal the mail that is) Problem I am having is I have setup a mailbox [email protected]. When I go to setup the journal rule I get the error “The recipient can only be a mail user, a mail contact or an external address.” Any offers Thanks

Hello Chaps / chapets Here is my power shell script $dtoday = get-date -format "dd-MM-yyyy" New-Item Y:\$dtoday -type directory -Force export-Mailbox -Identity [email protected] -PSTFolderPath y:\$dtoday\$dtoday.pst -DeleteContent -confirm:$false All it does is create a folder with todays date then exports the journal mailbox into that folder with a created pst with the same date. Normally export-mailbox to pst leaves the items in place (strange when the command is export) So the –deletecontent –confirm:$false does the deletion Save the script as .ps1 and run it from a scheduled task. You can run the script as many times a day as you need, it will only create one folder and pst per day. The machine you schedule the task on will need the exchange powershell snapin added. We have internal exchange for staff. I cannot decide what way to go for students live@ edu or add them to our own exchange. But either way if you need to to you can hide staff from the gal. Internal exchange takes a bit of an adsi edit creating a second gal for students. Live@edu students can be gal disabled Cheers

Hello I’m just looking for people’s experiences of managed services pro and cons Face-Man posted back in 2007 (here) with the questions I’d like thoughts on Has it cost more/less ? Has it restrict/enpower learning ? Has it met expectations ? Does it deliver reliability ? How would you improve it ? We are not managed at the moment but the point has been brought up. We have a vanilla network (god I hate that term) virtualized, San, sharepoint etc and everything in house set up and managed by us no external support but for SIMS and these forums. We cable everything ourselves to boot. We are more than capable of providing a top quality network. As we are moving to a new build ICT contractors are due to be appointed, this is where the managed services come from. For upcoming discussions I’d just like some experiences for both side of the argument Cheers

Going through the process of appointing a new ICT contractor for a new build. We currently use moodle which I love. I know that the bidding companies will try an sell Frog, never used it myself. Is that really true that they only support IE browsers, can’t be? Cheers

Hello I have sharepoint 2010 setup running, MySites are on a separate web application. Both are on the same server. I have office apps installed. Users can create a mysite, I have 4 that have set them up as a test. When a user first clicks on MySite and then on 'My Content' the default content gets created, (Personal Document, shared documents etc) For my own personal mysite I have added content types to the personal documents so I can create excel, powerpoint documents in browser. I could document this for other users but can see endless phone calls coming my way! What I want to achieve is When a user creates their MySite the 'Personal document' library is automatically created allowing the use of word, powerpoint, excel by default. Is this something that needs to done via sharepoint designer editing the mysite.master Could I create a template of my own 'mysite' and have the new sites created from this template. If this is possible i coudl pre-provision all the users sites Any help would be great. Cheers

Our SIMS server does nothing else and is running in our virtual environment. Everything is well below the limits. I don’t think it is the agents, just that’s it’s the only thing that has changed in the last two weeks Cheers

About 2 weeks ago I installed solus 3 and deployed the agent to all PC’s across the network. Install was ok no bother. Today a teacher calls to say that the students are taking a long time to login, I done some checking, then he tells me it been happening for a couple of weeks. Why didn’t you tell me when it first happened I ask, I didn’t want to bother you. AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH! But anyway, Has anyone else had anything similar with the solus 3 agents. This is the only change on the network that could coincide with the problem. Cheers

We currently have 20 HP AP’s all managed by a controller. They work just great for the purpose they was installed for i.e. just for 50 staff laptops. Management have purchased 95 laptops for students over the last year or so, each time I say we need to get more AP’s or you will have problems, do they listen not a chance. Our new build will be fully wireless with just 3 fixed PC suites and 1500 laptops, I have told them and told them to rethink. It would only take a brief search on these forums to highlight the decision is wrong. I keep a daily tally of repairs of laptops compared to fix PC’s. Today 5 laptops, zero PC’s Barking mad the lot of them

We have a HP wireless network at the mo, very pleased with it. The ap’s are duel band MSM422 (N rated) all managed with a mobility controller. We only have 20 AP that just are supposed to support the teachers

Thanks guys, just thinking I was the only one who can see the pit falls. We feel like we are the ones that are barking mad and we are not from this planet. Just waiting for my space ship to come and take us back to our home planet!! I not against wireless, just the fact that they fail to see that it should not be the only solution. To cap it all my team and I, (currently 4) will not have an office in the new build but will be housed in the primary school attached to the main build. Apparently we will be out and about all day long so there is no need for an office. Strange then that we will be the central storage for video cameras, headphones etc for people to book out. BKGarry You say you are almost completely wireless, how may laptops may I ask? How do you manage large deployments of software, Office, Adobe, operating systems, updates and the like? Do you still do this over the wireless, I can’t imagine how this would work for 1500 laptops
