Hi, I can recommend the car driving experiences, I was bought one last year for my birthday ... had the choice of 4 cars. I chose the Aston Martin DB9. Dad brought one for himself as well so that we could both go together! It was brilliant, got a nice photo and an in car video recording as well. I really really recommend it!! The company that provided the experience was Driving Experiences, Driving Experience although the company that it was purchased from was Experience Days, Gift Experiences, Experience Gifts | Activity Superstore which have a much wider choice! Please excuse my ignorance ... but what does PFY stand for? I think there are a few students that would benefit from it, who like to know more and would more than likely build there own PCs. There are quite a few students that you interact with that you can tell take an interest in these things.

Yeah I think 8 hours is too long looking at it now. I don't want to go too technical because I don't want to bore them to death. Cheers, that looks interesting. I will take a further look at that. Well that's the thing. If they know how things work maybe they will respect it more? But certainly, I think its important that children learn these practical skills rather than just the academic and how to use a computer.

Hrmm yeah, maybe as an enrichment I was a bit too enthusiastic ... maybe as a one off in timetable suspension or something. Was there a certain reason that you did it ... ?

@Flatpackhamster An enrichment session is basically just extra curricular activities that the students can do. Many many choices are put on with what they can choose such as; Game Programming, Gardening, Scrap Booking etc etc .... @enjay - Yeah tbh that's what I thought. It was just an idea that popped into my head but wasnt sure if it was viable or not. There are other teachers that offer Games Programming using Game Maker etc and they do Film Making and Video editing etc. Oh well .... it was worth a thought.

Hi All, Hope you are all well ...? Just wondering if I could pick some brains. At our school we have enrichment sessions. I was thinking of putting myself forward to run an enrichment based on computers , how they work, hardware etc ..... because I feel that there are some students that would quite enjoy it and find it interesting and its something that I would have done when I was a student here. Now if I do decide to do it I am not really too sure how deep into it to go without making it too boring, but informative as well. Like what each part is, ie CPU, RAM, Hard Drive, Graphics Card, Motherboard. Show them it on inside a PC, maybe get them to take some apart and put back together etc. The sessions would be an hour and 20 mins every two weeks, and their choice lasts a term. Is it something that I can do for that long without it being really boring? Are there any schools out there that already do it and might be able to share what they do ... or if any of you could offer any advice and stuff on what you would do to make it exciting etc. Many Thanks Tom

Hi, Not sure if I have put this in the right place or not. Basically we are having a problem with playing videos from 4 Learning Clipbank. As soon as the video begins to play the signal on the projector is all flickery and the bottom half is just grey. Have had this happen on a Hitachi and NEC projector. The computers have Intel Motherboard/Graphics with the dual outputs VGA/DVI-D and they are set to clone. Funnily enough the issue has happened on two computers within a week and on the exact same model of PC. I have made sure that it is running the latest drivers and are running Windows XP with IE8. Has anyone seen this before or knows of a fix? Cheers Tom

Hi @localzuk , We have also been seeing this issue, but unfortunately have not yet found a resolution to it. Was going to post up here but kept forgetting, maybe someone has a fix .... Tom

The only thing I can think of is that when I open 2004MX on my Windows 7 machine it changes the colour scheme to Windows Basic. Will the students have the required permissions to do this? Tom

Does it still feel as nice to use? Some that I had experienced were a bit urm ... 'restrictive' and my finger didn't glide as well as just the normal screen. I know this probably sounds really odd lol ....

Hi All, Bit of an odd thread to start I know, but .... Whilst cleaning my iPad screen I have noticed that it has got a few little tiny scratches on it. They dont effect the usability and can only be seen when you tilt it to the light but I know that they are there .... I want to prevent the screen from gaining any more scratches. I wondered if any of you fellow Edugeekers had used any particular make of screen protector that you found to be good? I don't want to go too cheap and nasty but not mega expensive. Something that doesn't effect the nice feel and usability of the screen too much. Many Thanks Tom

Just downloaded it but when trying to open a file it says 'Cannot establish connection, network might be blocked.' Guessing its just because I'm in school its using an obscure port which isn't open. Does anybody know what it might be using? But thanks @tech_guy looks good!!

It should prompt after you have clicked print, but only if the preference that I said is ticked. We had a few machines that this wasn't ticked and the job wouldn't print out.

Do you have access codes set on the copiers? If you do for the job to print this code needs entering. A box should pop up once the job has sent, if you do use codes and the box is not coming up then it might not be set. To do this right click on the printer, go to Printer Preferences and click on the 'Settings Tab. 'Popup Authentication Dialog when printing' has to be ticked. Now when you send the job it will popup. The box will usually have two fields; Department Name and Password, or a variant of that. All that needs entering should be the code. This is what the box usually looks like. Tom

Sometimes if you plug it back into the same usb port on the same computer that it was last working on it works. Again like @elsiegee40 I don't know why, but then again I have never really looked into it, just pleased that its worked.

Its brilliant. Admittedly it makes us a little bit lazy not having to travel to classrooms to fix minor problems etc. Really good though. I also couldn't recommend it enough! Tom -
Ours is a Hobarts, dont know a model sorry. Good piece of kit. It operates as a printer and the designs are made and outputted using TechSoft 2D Design.

Hi, We have 5 x 50 minute lessons. First one starts at 8:40. After the second lesson there is a 20 minute breaktime. We have what's called a rolling lunch. 4 x 35 minute lunches spread over 2hrs 25mins. At the end of the 5th lesson we have Registration/Tutor which is about 25mins and sometimes assemblies within this time, depending on Year Group etc. After Tutor there is a small 10 minute break and depending on which day Homework Club (which is optional), or a 6th Period, or Enrichment classes. On a Friday school finishes straight after Tutor. And there is a 2 Week rotating timetable.

Have you had a look at Ergo? Absolutely brilliant company. Laptops are really rugged and well made and prices are quite competitive against the spec, warranty and support. Support is absolutely brilliant, can't fault it. 3 or 5 year warranties usually included and they offer telephone support even when the warranty has ran out.

Hi All, I have been having a play about with Chromium OS today. Downloaded from Chromium OS builds by Hexxeh. Booted it up off a memory stick and worked really well . Just wondered if anyone had come across a way of being able to lock the settings down etc, so that the students cant fiddle. I know that at BETT Google were talking about the Chromebooks and being able to centrally manage them form a web interface ... but only if you buy a Chromebook with ChromeOS installed. I was thinking about maybe configuring some memory sticks with Chromium OS, giving them to some of the students on a trial and setting up a room or a suite of our netbooks so that if the Memory Stick is inserted into machine before its switched on it would boot upto that memory stick, that way if its the students personal one it wouldn't matter what settings they enabled/disabled/changed etc. Only thing that I can see wrong is that when ive tried it on a few different machines I have had to put in the WiFi Password and Proxy settings each time. Maybe there is a way around this? Any input would be gratefully received, might turn into an interesting thread ... ?!? Thanks Tom
