The profile that you installed, did you uncheck the box 'Allow installing apps'? I think if you don't have it ticked then you can't install apps using Apple Configurator

I take this comment back. Just tried the laser cutter on a Windows 7 machine and it works like a dream! Hooray, no XP machines!!

We use a couple of sets of these to get network connections to some of our more distant buildings. A breeze to set up and work flawlessly. You can't go wrong for the price.

I've used a few different AIOs. The ones from HP and Dell with the PC mounted on the back of the monitor are ok but they have an external PSU which takes up desk space and gives the kids something to unplug! Like others have said, the RM One is a very sturdy machine, sits very neat on the desk and there's nothing the kids can vandalise on them! Downside is they're overpriced. Viglen do a couple of ranges, the Omnios and Genie Ultra Small. The Genie Ultra Small computers are very similar to the Dell Optiplex USDT, but have a built in PSU! Stone Computers do a similar PC with a 'UniStand' allowing it to be mounted behind a monitor. I'm looking to replace ageing RM Ones with these when the time comes as they are much cheaper and come with 5 year NBD on site warranties.

Not really. As it sounds like you're looking for a managed wireless solution I'd recommend a 3 pack of UniFi access points. They do 802.11n, those 3Com ones only do b and g and you need to have a controller also..

They are ProCurves switches. The computers connected to them aren't always on the same circuit so if a breaker tripped powering the cab then computers might stay powered on but lose connectivity? But as we have a UPS powering the switch we're ok. We have quite a few wireless access points connected to POE switches, the clients tend to be laptops, tablets and phones - these would carry on working fine.. also when we get VOIP phones powered over POE also they would carry on working.

Yes. Why wouldn't you? We use a 5406 for our core. Unfortunately I don't have any guides on setting up VLANs. I just read a few manuals and articles on the internet. It was all pretty straight forward for what we are doing.

I've done similar things before with plasmas (not in a marquee yet though). I've not had any problems using VGA splitters and VGA over CAT5 distribution amps. Could you not run the cables up between the inner drapes and the walls of the marquee if it makes it neater?

We use HP ProCurve 1810 switches and have them in some cabinets that are less than 400mm deep without any problems. The issue came trying to find UPSs shallow enough for the cabs!

We use VLANs with our UniFi installation, with two SSIDs, one for our domain network and another for student use with their own devices. No problems with it so far. People would say to avoid the long range access points as in the UK their signal strength is limited to the same as that of a standard UAP.

We've got a Stageline MMX-602 in one of our halls. It's basic but it does the job fine. I didn't think it had phantom powered either and we needed to use it to power a DI box. A look through the manual and it does have phantom power! You just need to remove a bunch of screws, take the lid off the unit and then switch a jumper over per channel to provide phantom power.

There is no reason why you can't have a vanilla 2008 R2 server on your domain with CC4.2 (2003 R2) domain controllers. I did exactly that for our SIMS server, application server and web server. CC4 update 110 allows 2008 R2 servers to be made 'CC4 member servers' with all the CC4 components and allows them to be managed through the RMMC. Hope this helps.

There's also the HP 4320T thin client laptop. I think it's a bit newer and more available than the 4410T.
