  1. We use the desktop version at all my schools but it is used in the same way as a USB memory key would be used and not as a replacement to shared server drives.
  2. You can use a GPO called restricted groups to do this but i am not in front of a computer at the moment so can't give step by step.
  3. While I am happy with the text I get to prove who I am at a new device, Google are releasing support for USB key security. Google launches USB Security Key for super-secure two-step verification | ExtremeTech
  4. SQL2008 r2 is supported until the Spring 2015 release, is it not.
  5. One of my primary schools is on the free (non licensed) version of smart but someone has deleted the installer files. On the smart downloads page they have versions 14, 2014, 11.4, ....etc https://www.smarttech.com/downloads Does anyone remember which is the last free version?
  6. I work in a Primary school and you say the pupil creates an account and you look after everything else, I take it the school still needs some kind of management system to deploy apps etc.
  7. Disable your proxy settings while at home. What VPN are you using as there are millions.
  8. Last year the LA got MS to come and push MS products to all the local primary schools at an event but It turned out that most of schools that did not buy IT services from the LA had already started using Google Apps for Education. This made the day very odd as the LA and MS were then basically selling to schools that were getting services only from the LA and the LA were not giving them any choice as they did not want to support Google Apps.
  9. We get this sort of thing a lot. The main issue is the LA give 'dodgy' info to the headteachers who know no better and then panic. It's even worse once the LA run all the services for a school as they never get another view point and can be pushed into purchasing other LA services.
  10. I have received an email that was about as useful as the first email but one point they listed was this, I think I must be going mad as I thought Google Apps for Education (UK) had 'opt out' as default. Has this changed recently without my knowledge?
  11. Thanks for all the info. I have mailed back to the LA and await a reply.
  12. One of my schools has accidentally emailed all parents an email that has everyone else's email address in the header. The head decided to contact the LA and the following is the reply. When the school wanted to use Google I contacted the ICO and signed the school up. We had a long chat and they were completely happy for the school to use this service. Can any email system actually log into a private email account to delete an email if its been recalled? I thought other LA were using Google services? Can anyone name some. Going to send a reply but wanted to post this for advice.
  13. Good on you for finding time to post, I would probably be pulling my hair out. I once had 2 drives go and then the next day while raid was rebuilding a third went. Turned out to be faulty controller card that was going mental.
  14. Is it true that when locked down with something like Meraki the pupil can still get into a few of the settings like the pass key?
  15. Thanks for all the info so far. I have got to pass all the info on to the school later this week and have another few question. These are going to be used in a primary school and I am very confused around creating accounts. Am I going to have to create an account for each student? and what about credit card details, how does that all work or get managed?
  16. That article actually gets very interesting from about halfway down. What I want is the best online multilayer experience, Graphics can take a back seat. None of my friends have made the jump so all are still on 360.
  17. hmmm thanks. Would be good to find someone that has both and does not work in sales.
  18. I have always had an xbox but had decided to go with the crowed and get a PS4, so went down to my local Game to see about their view on which one. Well They all came back and said the Xbox 1 was way better, especially in terms of on online playing. Apparently MS have about 300,000 servers for online gaming and the PS4 suffers as they do not have this. One of them said he has both at home and the graphics might be ever so slightly better on PS4, but only get that if I only play single player. He said he plays the xbox1 about 85% of the time Is this all true? Do they get some kind of commission for selling xbox1 over PS4? With my XBOX 360 I normally only do online gaming and not into single player games. Anyone else got both? Any other advice? EDIT: Not sure how to change title spelling.
  19. Flash will make the pics better but only if you pay for a decent external flash and defuser.
  20. And Chromecast does do android mirroring now for those reading from the original post.
  21. So does configurator need a mac or apple server or can it run on Windows?
  22. Panic over. I was able to mount the vhd file in Windows 8.1 and restore the files. YAY.
  23. I have just tested a restore using the server that did the backup and that works fine. So the issue is using the backup on another server.
  24. I wanted to run a disaster test restore on a few backed up folders and files just to see if they would restore to a totally different server. Both servers are 2008r2 but after I select the restore disk (USB) I get the following error after 10mins. Luckily this is only a test restore and we do have an offsite backup with another company that uses their own software, but I really need to be able to fix this issue asap. EDIT - This is using Windows Backup Software
