have you looked at learnPad, a dream to use compared to ipads. EDIT: LearnPad - Simple Classroom Tablet Solutions Everything including layout is controlled from web based server. You can switch between different layouts wither from the website or from each tablet.

Our LA backs up the primary school servers to their site but we have no way of doing a disaster test apart from getting them to restore the odd file as we have no management software this end. I have started running my own onsite backups using windows backup which backs up to a USB drive, but this is always attached to the server so would be of no use if the server area burnt down. I know that most other primary schools in my area do not even do an onsite backup and simply rely on the LA.

Colin can you give me some info on how your warranty works, do you do 3 and 5 years warranty's? Thanks

I am struggling to find a laptop that ticks all the boxes the school has given me. We do not have an ESS agreement so must buy the pro licence with the laptop. It must have 5 years warranty. It must have a 13 or 14 inch screen and it must look the bees knees. The last time this school purchased any laptops they got Samsung series 5 ultrabooks with touch screen and how the looked was a big part of the decision as they must be light for the primary kids to walk around with and not look like a brick. So far I can only find 2 laptops that might hit the spot for them, one is a Dell Latitude 3440 14inch with windows 8.1pro and the other is a Samsung Ativ book 9 lite. I have not used either but noticed the Ativ book has an AMD processor and wondered if this would cause any issues with general curric software or Sims etc. Any advice would be very helpful.

HTC One M8 or the Nexus 5 (6 out soon). I could not afford the M8 so went with the Nexus which is a fantastic phone and always gets the latest updates.

All my schools use remote desktop gateway, gives the user the same desktop as being onsite with all the mapped drives and even printers.

It was only a few months back and it was listed as a question in the email, although price was not broken down in the reply.

it depends if its connecting to smart hardware. It was very cheap for us as we already have smartboards in the school

I am self employed and look after 5 primary schools. A few of these are half day visits and I keep Friday free for extra / emergency work. I do look after everything from the websites to Sims and do all the server work. I have been doing this for a while now and could probably fit in another school or 2.

I feel the need for sleep from about now onward, and really feel bad after the clock change

You can simply have the home folder inside another folder and not worry about the desktop.INI issue. So share/user/folder. The folder gets renamed to mydocs but that does not mater as it is inside a folder that has the name of your user.

I have to admit to being wary of using google products, as I don't know which ones they will still support in a few months time... They all do thus. A few years back I had all my photos in Microsoft's photo system, they pulled the plug on that.

If I am reading the info correctly it looks like even a gen2 hyper-v does not support EFI for Win7 or server2008r2 when they are guest VM OS on 2012r2 or win8.1.

Tried both hyper-v 2008r2 and vmware player with same results. So basically my system state backups are useless from a testing point of view and will only work if going onto real hardware. Is that correct?

I am trying to do a 'test' system state restore onto a 2008r2 virtual server but get the following error at the point the restore should start. Not sure why restoring system state would care about the volumes but will list the volumes. Volumes found on the original server being backed up EFI system partition C: D: The VM only has C: The original system state backup was from a real server and not a VM. Any advice would be very welcome.

So does this mean China knew something we are just finding out. Seawolf says that both Apple and MS are closed security and it's both these companies that have been banned from Government use in China. Makes me wonder if the reason they gave was different from the real reason.
