  7. I am in denial. Please do not push reality on me again. If it does come in way over priced I will just buy some of the bits now and wish to the pixie gods for the rest at a later point. For a while I might be needing some Dell love.

  10. Ah thanks. We do not have control of our domain records and have to go through a lengthy process to get anything changed. Not so good if you want to simply test something.
  11. Looks like I might be able to do part of the restricting using OU restrictions. Thanks. Would this also need MX records etc being created with the sub domain info?
  12. So if I can beg, borrow some extra cash this GPU would be a good choice? Gigabyte GTX970 WindForce 3 OC 4GB Nvidia (Maxwell) PCI Express Graphics Card * Scan Exclusive * - GV-N970WF3OC-4GD - Scan.co.uk Otherwise I might just go with a pre built as it has a blue light
  13. Should really be working but anyways. Probably getting the I5 4690k processor. Next I will see which graphics cards have been recommend in the posts above and do some googleing.
  14. Thanks for the flood of info so far. Lets start with processors. Which of these is better as they are both about the same money. Intel Core i5 3570K Quad Core IvyBridge Processor Retail with Heat Sink Fan - BX80637I53570K - Scan.co.uk or this which is recommended on pc gamer Intel Core i5 i5-4690K CPU (Quad Core 3.5GHz Processor, 6MB Cache, Intel HD 4600 Graphics, Socket H3 LGA-1150): Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories
  15. I was going to get an Xbox One then a PS4 than I went back to Xbox but have decided to move away from consoles and build my own gaming rig. I really have no clue where to start. I have around £600 ish, so hope that will be enough to get me something that is on par or better than the next gen consoles. I might have some more money in a while so it does need to be an upgradable system. If anyone can recommend me a site with some pre built machines that would be handy or offer some general advice about the type of processor or graphics card I should get. Also are some motherboards more upgradable than others and are some aimed at gaming? cheers
  16. We would like to get the older pupils at our primary school using Google Apps but the Head does not want the pupils to see the staff email addresses or be able to email them. I explained that Google apps is built on the fact that sharing files is done using email addresses and the HT has come back saying it might be possible if I set up another domain inside the current domain and add the pupils to this other sub domain. I have not mucked about with the domain settings in Google Apps before, as I am a bit concerned about the knock on effects, but wondered if this would work?
  17. Last year I was handed a BBC microcomputer robot. It was a bit like a roamer and had metal antennas so it new when it had hit something. It also came with about 20 old style large floppy disks and box with instructions.
  18. Lucky I stumbled on these posts as SEGFL have nothing on their website and none of the schools I look after have been informed.
  19. I did a test upgrade and it killed the server. Would not even boot.
  20. We are in a similar position although I did get sent some basic instructions. If you are paying for Sims support they should give you something. If you are paying Capita for Sims support they do give migration instructions. Bit of a rush now but will post back at some point or pm you.
  21. All my Primary schools went with LearnPads and love them, after a demo of Android, Apple and Learnpads it was a no brainer. They have been made for education, The apps are all educational, they link in with the smartboards, the teacher can take control of any tablet and show everyone else, even the most knuckle grinding teacher can add apps or switch to a different desktop. From a Primary school perspective I am not sure why you would want anything else.
  22. I have a Nexus 5 and last week I got my OTA update. I have been having the odd issue with wifi and the camera app since updating but nothing major. Today my friend showed me something on his Nexus 5 and his phone ran much smoother than mine. Prior to using his mine had seemed fast and responsive but side be side his was just better, which is odd as both are N5's and both on Android V5 The only difference I could work out was I had done an OTA update and he had downloaded and installed the update himself. Doing some searching I found out that doing an OTA update does not always update all the files, some might get missed for whatever reason, although the full rom is downloaded to the phone for restores etc. So I went in to the options and did a factory reset, which wipes the phone and re-installs using the current version of Android (Lollipop). Be warned that while doing this it can now take up to 2 hours for Android to wipe the internal memory and you should just wait. I think its something to do with the encryption and not an issue as some forums suggest, just wait and it will install the OS. Anyway my phone is is not the same phone as the one with the OTA update. The wifi issues have gone and the camera is working way better that it did before. The phone is just a better phone, not by much but by enough for me to notice. Just wanted to pass this info on and hope it helps someone else with an Android device.
  23. Your support company could also be the local authority, but your school will (or should) have a support contract with someone.
  24. I decided it would be best to create a test network and set up a server with data files etc. I then installed drive and moved everything into the drive folder, re mapping shared drives etc. All worked fine, I was able to share folders out to my pretend staff using google from my 'master account', and was also able to make changes to the same files and folders but from a standard Windows share. That's as far as I have got as I have some other projects on atm and also a bit nervous about doing this on a real network, but in theory it does seem doable.
