  1. If I access the above link using a personal account I get directed to G+ Picasa but if I use a GAFE account I get to the original Picasa
  2. We block G+ but have access to picasa https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/myphotos
  3. That's what I thought.
  4. Out of interest, does changing the IP and name of a DC not cause issues with DNS or AD?
  5. In addition to above will this 6 core processor be OK for 2 VM's Intel Xeon E5-2430 v2 2.50GHz, 15M Cache, 7.2GT/s QPI, Turbo, 6C,.
  6. Next questions are about backups. Once I have gone virtual do I continue with standard OS backups (windows backup) along with doing a full VM backup or does everyone just do full VM backups? Suppose Ill need to find some VM backup software. Veeam has a free version - Veeam Backup Free Edition for virtual machines (VeeamZIP) Is this any good. Can you recommend anything cheap. Thanks
  7. It was purchased a while back for another school who have have said they do not need it anymore. The HDD's and ram could be changed but that's about it I think, although school has no money and it would not be easy for me to get anything extra at the moment.
  8. Did not want to hijack this post so have created a new one http://www.edugeek.net/forums/how-do-you-do/149167-going-virtual-hyper-v-primary-school-advice-needed.html
  9. so, New server has 1.2 tb total Old server has 700gb total I can definitely get hold of a HP Microserver but it will only have 1tb total. Can you help with the question marks below New server FULL 2012r2 - VM DC - VM DATA server Old server ???????? HP Microserver ????????
  10. So if we get 2012r2 standard and install the hyper-v role I can then install 2x 2012r2 vms?
  11. Sorry but I hit post before I had finished typing. Please check my OP.
  12. I was just reading this post - http://www.edugeek.net/forums/learning-network-manager/141632-virtualise-not.html and decided not to hijack. Thinking of going virtual at a small primary 150 pupils, but not sure it's worth it. The setup 1 new server +5 year warranty 1 old server - no warranty offsite backup that costs per gb onsite backup using USB HDD's. I might be able to get a small HP microserver with some 2tb drives. I am having problems thinking how I would go virtual. Should the new server have 2008r2 full version with hyper-v role or do you use the non gui hyper-v? Is it still recommended to one pysical DC? We would not be able to backup the vms off site due to cost, Would USB HDD's do.
  13. GAFF users can do a manual backup of all their stuff which downloads to the local pc. I use this for myself but also get the staff to do this a few times each year at a small primary.
  14. You can do backups in GAFE using one of the many third part backup apps. I tried one that backed up everything docs, emails, calendar, google sites etc and keeps live copies on your data storage device. Would be very surprised if Office 365 does not have similar
  15. I decided to pick a new name for my limited company and was very surprised to find 'ICT Network Solutions Limited' was available. Thanks for all the advice
  16. I am keeping an eye on this post as I am in the same position. Just ordered a new servers for a primary school. Below are some areas that would add to the cost. It is recommended to keep 1 DC on a physical box Needing software that can backup vm's Additional space to backup the VM's.
  17. OK thanks. I always thought that would be the preferred method but never had a spare server to test etc.
  18. So what would be the best way to restore DC1 now you know DC2 has DNS AD etc? Would it be to do a full bare metal restore on DC1? or install OS on DC1 and seize roles etc? Good idea. Something I will look into. Thanks
  19. DC2 does have DNS and AD replicating. For it to be a domain controller (DC) it has to have DNS and AD. I choose to only have the GC FSMO role installed as its possible to seize the others if needed. Sorry if this was not clear in my OP but I did have a really bad cold when I created it. Can we start again?
  20. Thanks @3s-gtech. So basically Switch off DC2 On DC1 - Boot from Windows 2008r2 DVD and choose to restore the system using backed up bare metal system image. Q1. is it really that simple? Q2 what do I do with DC2 after the restore? Do I turn it back on or wipe it and re-build? EDITED.
  21. Same. I do not really get it.
  22. All my primary schools use Google sites. It fantastic, very very easy and free. It can do calendars, whats new, doc sharing etc. It's very flexible and ready to go in a few mins. EDITED
  23. Anyone have any advice? Still not sure if I should Seize the FSMO roles and install OS manually or restore the entire server from backup. Would rather not work it out after an issue so any help really welcomed.
