My host is server 2012r2, all VM's are Gen 2 server 2012r2. I have been using MS backup on the host to backup our VM data server as Windows Server 2012r2 now supports VM backups but I have not been backing up the VM DC like this but have been doing in OS system state backups. Do you think I am OK to use MS backup on the host to also backup the entire VM DC?

At one of my primary schools I have 2 virtual DC's. One gets system state backed up as though it was a single standalone servers as I have always been informed not to take an entire VM backup or snapshot of a DC as it can not be restored without time rollback issues which borks AD, but I have just been reading the following which suggests otherwise. I had a nexus one, HTC desire HD, Samsung galaxy 2, nexus 5. Wife has Samsung galaxy 5. Samsung are very poor at lasting more than a year, HTC only a bit better. Nexus phones have been amazing.

My Nexus 5 is like a rocket. It just gets faster and better with each update. I can go almost 2 days between charges now (used to be 1 day).

Is it possible to backup the graphics settings I have picked? I have a GTX 970 G1 and I used the Nvidia GeForce Experience to pick the optimal settings except it was slightly lagging, the only way to describe it is like an elastic band, the frames were speeding up and slowing down. I spent some time manually tweaking and have found the Nvidia GeForce Experience picks some very odd settings. A few of the settings that don't really add to the video memory are turned down and some settings that don't make much difference but put a strain on the graphics card have been turned up. My advice would be don't bother using Nvidia's GTA experience settings.

I was told the school is getting re-built in the summer. Hope it didn't take long to create your minecraft version. Love it. )

Is this on a domain pc as you can control chrome using gpo. You can also use Google Apps for .... to control chrome settings. Cant help with reg, sorry.

Not sure but RAID 6 and SATA drives might not be a good mix, or is that RAID 5.

We went with SATA in the past due to cost but this time I got the powers that be to see the light and we got 15K SAS drives. It makes a massive difference.

Yes but the school were paying for them to do that in the first place and were not asking for them to cripple the system if their contract ran out. FFS I could go around and uninstall all the client OS's and everything I have ever done at all my schools over the last 10 years. If it was me I would take that up with the company. So have they actually deleted group policy from the sever?

I would use this time to ditch offline files as it's such a poor service and is not reliable.

Just worked out it needs double the space than advertised. I had over 100gb free on my ssd and it was full. Just going to re download to a larger drive. PANTS.

Last year when I used the SQL2008 to SQL2012 migration tool it gave me the option of choosing a backup location so if I updated Sims or FMS with any updates the automatic backups would be in a folder of my choice and not progfiles\mssql........\backup I have just had to re install Sims and FMS on a new server, so no migration tools. Everything seems OK but I can't work out how to change the default Sims and FMS backup locations. Any ideas - - - Updated - - - I am using SQL Express 2012 but with tools such as sql studio.

Just setting up a new server and moving the shared folder over. I need to get the mapped drives to map to the new server. I have just gone into Group Policy Management, edited the mapped drive policy and changed the following, Action = update Location = \\newserver\share$ When I log in as a user the drive has not mapped, which is possibly due to a delay in the gpo getting updated on the client, but wanted to know if this method was the best? Another method I can think of would be to put the Action to remove and then add a new separate mapped drive for the new server. Any advice about getting it to map to the new server as the user logs in without needing to wait for any updates.

Ignore above post, sorry still sleepy. Folder 1 (security = ?????) - Shared Folder 2 (security = a group created in ad with users added) If I have a folder (1) and then a folder in that folder (2) that is shared and the folder that is shared (2) has a new security group added and the default groups like everyone & users removed what should the folder above have as its security. Sure I should have been able to put this better, WAKE ME UP.

Just going over folder shares and security and I seem to have inherited a mix of different groups on different folders. On a share that everyone needs access to should I use Domain users, Authenticated users, Users or create a new security group? They all work but in different ways and I am not 100% sure which would be best from a security point of view.

Just so I can understand how Sims works a bit better can you explain how long the database will keep the users merged in its database? The reason I ask is last year I did run the script that @vikpaw mentioned and then a few months back I also migrated from SQL2008r2 to SQL2012 which should have merged the users. With this being a small primary and not many Sims users being added would it still have those uses or does it lose them from it's database after an amount of time?

Thanks for all the info so far. The reason I am worried about doing a detach is last year I was at a local get together of techies and someone mentioned they did a detach, but when they came to do the re attach on the new server it gave an error. It also would not re attach to the old sever. The LA could not help and it got escalated to Capita.

I was going to use the DB attach utility not SQL studio manager. I was not going to us dbAttach to detach and attach a database but further down on the page you can backup or restore a database. We use a script to backup the databases which uses dbattach to run the backup. Does this mean we should be good to use the backup and the user accounts should always be in our backups? or am I running in the wrong direction?

I have been asked by LA if we can stay on same version as them. Now you have muddied things. What can happen with the user account? What if I use the dbattach and it borks. I am left with no working databases.

Thanks. we already use redirect script so should only need to update the Sims / FMS connect.ini on the server once for all clients to pick up the new SQL server. Spot on. Was going to disable SQL on the old server asap.
