Thanks for the help. The code I found seems to have different switches from the one I have been running. I will try that later tonight. No errors and not using trusted logins. Do not have the iso but used simsinst in the setups folder, but it does work fine when I use another schools database. Yes all the same SQL version. I will do this later tonight.

SQL 2012 Express backup help.
edutech4schools replied to edutech4schools's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
I have created a new thread as my latest issue is not based on SQL2012 express. http://www.edugeek.net/forums/mis-systems/139296-very-stressed-sims-invalid-username-password-all-users.html -
Hi all, Following on from another post I decided to test the Sims backups at the few primary schools I work for. I created a virtual server and installed SQL2008r2 (full), then Sims and finally I used dbattach to restore the Sims databases from each school. This worked fine for the first few schools but I have come across an issue that is stressing me out a bit. The Sims database imports fine but when I try to login it says 'invalid username / password'. The backups are created using SQL management studio, running a maintenance plan. What I have tried so far, -Loging in as different users -In dbattach, restore the database, then detach the database and finally attach the database. -Running the following script to export the database But still no joy. I did a Google search and found the following bit of code but have not tried it as I do not want to make things worse. Anyone got any ideas.

SQL 2012 Express backup help.
edutech4schools replied to edutech4schools's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
I have been using the sql 2008r2 manager to backup all my schools and then import into a test sims environment and this has worked fine for all but one. This one school gives me an invalid user / pass error (not a reason 0) so I tried using the backup code in this thread but it still gives me the same error. Does the code work for SQL2008r2? any other ideas?? -

Has been working fine for ages until last week when it just started freezing. It was the same time that the main site was having its go slow mood. -

The desktop will be removed on smaller Windows tablets in Windows 9.0

Why did Microsoft do that, it is a real pain for me when setting up new machines. -
Why not look at learnpads? do a search on these forums and you will see how good they are. They can be completely locked down, deploy apps, connect to server shares and remotely viewed on other devices so the teacher can pick a screen to cast, oh and they are about £200 each. Other than that windows tablets would do you.

Just playing with WDS and installed OK. I have a boot image in the boot image folder. As I understand it this boots to the GUI so you can deploy images etc. Is this boot image OS dependent? I used the Server 2008r2\sources folder when asked for an install image but will be mainly wanting to capture and deploy Windows 7.

I have a primary school that still use vhs videos. I have even downloaded some of the videos but for some crazy reason they insist on using vhs. I was also shocked at how poor the quality is especially as the quality degrades over time and these things have been played to hell and back.

SQL 2012 Express backup help.
edutech4schools replied to edutech4schools's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
Thanks -
If this is going to be your only server I would advise against this. You should have one DC on a physical host and virtualising adds an extra layer that can go wrong. I can understand going virtual if you have backup servers and SANS that can kick in automatically but you do not.

SQL 2012 Express backup help.
edutech4schools replied to edutech4schools's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
The backup runs, YAY. Just few questions. If I run the backup with or without that code to import users from the master database, the backed up file size is exactly to the KB the same size which implies nothing is actually getting added. I thought that if you used dbattach to backup the database this did the master user import anyway, or was that just using dbattach to detach a database. Thanks for all the info so far, not sure what I would do without Edugeek forums. -

Thanks. Does this move the users into the database before backing up the database? -

Would that be the sa username and password? Would you mind posting your script so I can check it against mine. -
SQL 2012 Express backup help.
edutech4schools replied to edutech4schools's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
OK, Just run a manual backup using dbattach and found the .bak file. So just need to work out why script is not working. Thinking about it, should the script not have user accounts etc to login to do the backup? -
SQL 2012 Express backup help.
edutech4schools replied to edutech4schools's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
I do not think the script is running. If I put a pause at the end of the script and then run it as a .bat file it says the database has not backed up. -
Hi, We have been asked to go from SQL 2008r2 to SQL 2012 Express by our LA. They have sent us migration instructions and pointed me to a backup script by Support.net. I have installed a test server and done a test migration and all is OK but when I run the backup script I have no idea where it is storing the backup. This is the script Thanks
