I really no nothing about certificates. Is their a security issue if I continue to use a self signed cert?

Most of the primary schools I look after have a purchased cert for remote desktop services / gateway, but today I installed RDS using a self created cert and all works as expected. I have had to import the cert into the trusted cert on my test laptop for it to connect and have locked down access to specific users. Any computers need to be domain computers and only users with my connection profile can connect. So my question is, do I really need to purchase a cert?

Where would I find that it is illegal to do this? My issue with having lesson plans on standard keys is how do you monitor it, How would I know what they have on them. I would have thought it simpler just to have encrypted keys and be done with it.

I have just been handed an updated e-safety document for the primary school I work in and I have noticed the requirement for encrypted keys has been removed. I mentioned this to the head and he seems to think it is fine for the teachers to use non encrypted sticks. I pointed out that the LA have this in the e-safety doc but he says that the LA version is just for guidance. Is this correct and OK?

All of my primary schools have been using GAPPS for many years but it's only been used by the staff for Email, Calendar, Sites and Drive. One of the primary schools has ask if we can get the pupils set up with Drive only, so they will not need the email or G+ etc. I have looked around for any age restrictions, and all I seem to find is that the free Google apps has an age restriction of 13 but this is not the case with Google Apps for Ed in the UK, which does not appear to have that limit. The problem is this info is only on others websites and blogs. I have not been able to find anything directly explaining things from Google. Also in one forum they mentioned that the terms of service of the free apps service stated an age of 13 but that has been removed in the educational version of the ToS. Anyone else found this info out? Does the fact they do not have any age info listed in the ToS mean it's OK?

If you are not redirecting they would have been deleted when you ran delprof. I get all teachers to use Chrome as the favourites are stored on-line and follow the user from work to home etc.

When I moved all my schools to Google Apps for Ed I printed out some very basic instructions 'This is how you access your email' info and some 'What can you do' cards. The staff then new what was possible with the new system and grabbed me if they wanted something specific. Some staff already used this at home so needed very little help and some wanted me to show them everything.

Get a really cheap Android tablet, download and install the test version of LearnPad, Demo LearnPad to Staff. After the staff see you can switch from a tablet themed on Greeks to SEN based tablet in seconds they will get it.

The apps are mostly standard Android apps so why not look at them in the Google Play store. You can also find an app in the Play store and get it installed on the Learn Pads. https://play.google.com/store

I can check the version and browser app on Thursday for you. If its for development work and adults will be the only users, you might as well get a normal android tablet. Something like, Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8 inch as this is a perfect size, not to big but big enough to watch a film on. or you could get a Nexus tablet from Google.

Surely you choose what's best to manage, best to teach with and best for the pupils to learn with. If the parents don't get the fact that the school probably knows the best way to teach and the best way to do the teaching, then you might as well let the parents do the teaching and go home. Also lots of parents I know say iphone this and ipad that when they are generally talking about tablets and phones. My mum is always asking me to help her with her ipad, she has an Android, lol.

Really. You would send your child to a school because they use I-Pads over other devices. When choosing a school I looked at Ofsted reports, SATS results etc but never thought about who made the devices the school use.
