At a primary school the second server is old and I need to put DC role (backup from main dc), Remote desktop services and WSUS roles on. I just about have enough HDD space for one hyper-v VM so I essentially have 2 machines from the one. I assume Remote desktop services and DC should not be located on the same server. I also Assume DC should not go with the Hyper-v role. I have had issues running WSUS with remote desktop services in the past due to both needing IIS services. To complicated things I have limited space and do not want the WSUS role on the VM as WSUS gets larger in size over time and I have had issues in the past trying to expand a virtual disk. Problem is, unless I make a compromise based on the items above and put one of the items with another, such as putting the DC on the remote desktop server, I am going to need an extra server which is not going to happen. Does anyone run some of these services on a single server? Which can I mix?

The primary school I work for has just ordered some very nice Samsung series 5 ultrabooks with Windows 8 pro pre installed. The school does not have any Microsoft software agreements so does not normally image and deploy OS's. I have just taken one of the new laptops and updated to Windows 8.1 and installed all the curriculum software. The laptop comes with a utility to export (copy) both the factory reset image plus any images taken by the user and save them either to an external drive or to a network location. I have 2 questions. 1. If I do not export (copy) the factory reset image and at a later date the hdd dies can I use the factory reset image from one of the other Samsung series 5's the school have purchased. 2. Can I export the image from the one I have updated and added all the software too and deploy to the other laptops the school have purchased. Is this legal. What about SIDS etc. NB. Someone posted a similar question on another forum and the the response was this was fine as they all come with an OEM 'Master' licence (not the one printed on the laptop) and are all cloned before leaving the factory anyway. Also, I am not able to find any MS licence key on the bottom of the laptop's or in / on the box they came in.

Same as above. I have a cert with our external fqdn and it complained about external and internal names not matching. Go over all the settings and then go back over them again. Off work this week but if you are still having issues next week give me a shout and I will get my notes over to you.

Also have a look at Google Sites, its free and ready to go with a gmail account. I have some schools using this and know of some companies using it. Can be auto themed etc but you do have ability to code stuff under the hood if you need.

Learnpad and Active directory
edutech4schools replied to captaincharisma's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
So can learnpads connect to a domain server and login? Sorry for the hijack. -
The school down the road have all the Gdrives in the users home drives on the server, although I have never got this working at my schools but not spent much time trying.

OK, one of the issues I have been trying to get my head round is the accounts side of things. All staff have a Gmail account but none of the pupils do as they are very young. I was not really sure how we could set a few android tablets up to be shared by the pupils even if they will have the learnpad software installed over the top as they do not have accounts. The only way I can think of getting round this issue is to create each of the tablets an account in Google Apps rather than creating an account for a user, a bit like all desktops and laptops have a windows account. So I will create a OU in GAPPS called Tablets and then create all the tablet accounts in this. How does that sound?

The primary school are a Google Apps for Education school and all staff do have a Google email account. When setting up an ipad, I was told that it is best to use a single account on all tablets, is this the same for Android or can all the staff simply use their own GAPPS accounts. What is the best way to legally get and purchase apps on all Android tablets. Can we use gift cards or something like that. What is everyone else doing?

Should not matter if logging in as a different user Should not matter if you are targeting a group. Do not use GPP to map home drives but map using active directory. You might also need to include to FQDN in the home drive mapping in AD.

Any LGFL Schools use Google Apps?
edutech4schools replied to fiza's topic in London Grid for Learning (LGfL)
Not in your area but +1 for Google. Set-up both Gapps and 365 for 5 primary schools and all independently decided to go with Googles offering. -
Just had a yellow triangle in the WSUS roles which takes me to the WSUS service logs. When opened they list 'event 13001' which says 'Client computers are installing updates with a higher than 10 percent failure rate. This should be monitored.' This is just a small primary so not much change is going on to servers or hardware. Any pointers how I can remedy this error.

edutech4schools replied to ZeroHour's topic in Legacy CMS Comments
If you visit the edugeek app page in the android play store, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tapatalk.edugeeknet apparently this is a similar app, lol https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=kr.co.mets.mimisketchbookmimiday -
We use Google Apps and all is good, would imagine 365 OK also. A list of cloud backup solutions. 40 Online Backup Services Reviewed (Updated January 2014)

OK just having a play and seems to be ok so far. If I type http://www.youtube.com I get diverted to youtube/education. After login I am being asked to create a YouTube channel. Now the box says to enter a username (and gender) but should I enter the school name instead. Not sure as can't imagine how it will end up, but would have thought all the playlists and videos should be under a school channel and not a person channel. EDIT: For a Primary School setup.

Got an 8 inch Galaxy and it is the perfect size. Feels nice and large when watching films but fits in my pocket if needed. -

The hardest bit is getting a certificate. 1 request cert 2 install cert 3 install rds role 4 install rds gateway 5 install rds licensing service Or something like that... It takes me about 30mins or so and once its done is very reliable. I will try and find time to put together a basic step by step.
