When the GPO system was first introduced it did have a performance hit doing it one way rather than the other but that is not the case any more.

Do the people that make these laptops not test them? It's crazy they have made a really good laptop but it's unusable because of this basic issue.

Back in December I needed to replace my main laptop and had been told wonderful things about Lenovo. I had a look round and decided to get an Ultrabook and finally settled on the lenovo yoga 11s as it is very portable and also looked nice. After a very short time I realized that the all in-one mouse + click-able mouse buttons was going to be a complete nightmare. Because the mouse pad and buttons are the same thing and whenever I want to click on something the mouse pointer moves as its being clicked. I have checked and it is not a faulty laptop as others are having similar issues with different Lenovo models. I actually gave this laptop 5 months but could struggle no longer and purchased a Samsung 540U3C for the same price as the Lenovo. I must say the Samsung is the best laptop I have ever owned or used and I have used many many laptops over the years, I highly recommend this laptop. Why are so many laptops being made with the mouse pad and buttons in one?

I am able to copy and paste a file from my local desktop to the remote desktop, would a virus not be able to do the same?

RDP gateway is built in to server OS and is almost free + once its installed you never really need to do anything to keep it running, it just keeps working.

All my users at all my schools are local admins and we have had no real issues and its been that way for 8 years. I think we get less help requests since making them local admins as they can install what they want etc and they can do what they need if they take the laptops home. Anyway Does it all work OK if a user is local admin? What about as a power user? You might want to look at UAC, although MS stop you using the App store with that disabled.

All my primary schools have a remote desktop gateway so the staff get a full domain desktop from home complete with domain apps, network drives and printers.

A parent called the police out to a primary school when their child said an inappropriate image appeared on the teachers smartboard. The image was one of the random images listed down the side and caused a lot of stress for the teacher involved. Youtube is completely blocked at that school.

Just to add to my previous post. I think the reason all my schools like Windows 8.1 is the fact I have them booting straight to desktop and installed the old start button. As they do not use the start screen I did not need to update the server to 2013 or add any Group policies. It's all been very easy for me to role out.

All my primary schools are on 8.1. Not had any issues and it runs way faster then 7.

Got the Nexus 5 which is a fantastic phone. Only phone that would tempt me away would be the M8, although the Nexus 5 is way cheaper.

Curious how the software encourages pupils to sign-up. We use the on-line one at lots of primary schools and I have not been informed that this is an issue (so far).

All my schools use chrome and its very fast and has zero issues for us.

Would have thought your main choices are Google apps for Education or office 365

I use a gen 7 to migrate primary schools while fixing the main server. I have run the lot from one. DC, DHCP, SQL, SIMS and hyper-v and nobody ever seems to notice or contact me to say xyz is running slow.

As above. I have fine grained passwords setup at all my schools. Works much better than the standard password rules but is more complex to setup.

No, the staff are going to be required to use the school supplied laptop to remotely access the server.
