  1. Sounds like me. I demoed the software on my tablet a long long time ago and all the staff + head said how amazing they are. Apparently they never had the money to buy any, but now they have tried them in a class for real, money seems to have appeared for more. lol.
  2. Well I have been trying to get my primary to purchase some LearnPads for almost 2 years and finally 6 arrived before the Easter Break. They have only been in the classroom for a few days and the schools want more. I spent a few hours designing a desktop with a nice background picture and added some curriculum folders and apps and then sent that desktop out to all the LeanPads without any fuss. I am finding the QRcode very handy, so have created codes for wifi, proxy, and the desktop I created. Not had a chance to go any deeper but they seem very stable and must have fixed the wifi issues some had mentioned in other posts.
  3. Email the link to the parents I suppose.
  4. I use this on my kids (aged 4 and 7) devices. Zoodles: A safe Kid Mode® for every device
  5. google forms would be good and give percentage charts etc.
  6. mySchoolBackup ? Cloud Backup for Schools looks interesting, especially for primary schools.
  7. same as above. remember to sysprep before taking the image.
  8. Got it all worked out. Normal backup does still gives you the ability to step back through previous backups and retrieve a file from the past even though it appears not the case from the GUI info. Windows backup does seem to do more than looks apparent at first use. You can also make a lot of changes to the backup in the task scheduler.
  9. When a server went down at a mid sized primary school I dumped an older HP micro-server in while I fixed the main server. Nobody even notices a difference in speed and that was with it running DC SQl all roles and files + Sims and FMS. Did make me wonder why we spend thousands on a main server when this worked but hay ho.
  10. Did some testing during the night and you can take a bare metal backup along with system state and the data and get at the files / data separately. Last thing I need to work out is how the items listed under 'Optimize backup performance' effect things. Normal backup or faster backup are the two options given.
  11. In server 2008r2 backup if I manually select bare metal backup it automatically selects system state and some of the volumes. Does that mean I can have separate access to those backed up volumes and files if I need to restore a text file for a teacher or are they mangled into the bare metal backup and can only be restored as part of the bare metal restore. This is why I am trying to decide if I should do bare metal or system state or data backup. To me it looks like bare metal does all the rest as separate jobs but all within the same task.
  12. Thanks for the info but the school want to continue using the offsite LA backup solution and are very happy using / paying for that. The original post questions still stand as I want something just for my own peace of mind and this must not cost any extra for the primary school. I need to work out first if I should do nightly system state backups or nightly mare metal backups + DATA In addition to the questions in my OP I have a few more, I am a bit confused by 2008 r2 bare metal backups as one forum poster said the server needs to go offline in order to do a bare metal backup, is this true? Can I still extract individual files from a bare metal backup as I would from a standard DATA backup.
  13. Just after a little advice. We backup our 2008r2 server to our LA. They take a system state and DATA drive backup each night and hold the data for one month. I have been using robocopy (which I really like) to make my own internal backup of the DATA drive on the server to a 1tb USB drive. The data on this drive never gets deleted, only added too, so I can go back further than one month. Not that I do not trust our LA (cough) but I also want to back up the roles and services on the server just in case, so have purchased a 2tb USB drive to replace the 1tb drive. Using the built in 2008r2 backup software should I, do a full bare metal backup? do a system state backup and also do a DATA drive backup? do a system state backup but use robocopy to do the DATA drive backup? Thanks
  14. IE 10 and 11
  15. just out of interest, what vle have you gone with?
  16. My LA has got back to me with the following info. Is this true? As for the monitoring software they mention that it is also to monitor adults as a situation occurred where a member of staff was transferring indecent images using a schools network and the software in the original post would have flagged this.
  17. I have requested the relevant Ofsted info from our e safety team and will post it up if the send it.
  18. What about tablets. Nothing on Securus info about tablets, and most primary schools would share a tablet anyway.
  19. Firstly are you running the updates through a proxy? My server would not update through proxy. Next, can you dump ranger? I took on a school with ranger and they had soooo many issues that all magically disappeared once ranger had been removed. The only issue you might have is the old server not excepting the new one as it sounds in a bad way. apart from that it should be easy to set up another server to do what you ask.
  20. Sorry if this has already been posted, Apparently this covers schools also. Government signs £5.5m Microsoft deal to extend Windows XP support Government pays Microsoft £5.5m to extend Windows XP support - Telegraph
  21. I have just been told by our LA that Ofsted now require primary schools to use single user logins, and we will have to purchase something like Securus Education - Securus so we can show that the school is monitoring pupils online / offline behaviour. is this true?
  22. Why not get this. Shinntto™ 11 Led P/T 3G WiFi WPA2 Wireless IP Dual Audio Camera (Home Security; Baby monitoring; Pet Monitoring; Angle Control; Motion Detection; Mobile phone viewing; Iphone app; UK adapter): Amazon.co.uk: Baby you can then log into the camera from any browser or use an app on your phone. You can monitor your house when on holiday and even pan and tilt the cameras, and its cheap.
  23. When the headteacher opens an email that has been sent from the finance account she gets displayed in the right hand column a small image of an attachment that she can click on and open. The oddity is this attachment is from an email that was sent from finance to the head last year and has nothing to do with the current email received. Everything works as expected and normal attachments are displayed at the bottom of the page. I have tried to recreate the issue using my personal account but can not even get an attachment to get listed on the right let alone an old attachment. This is not a show stopper but the attachment is confidential and is really bugging the head.
  24. From memory, when installing wsus it asks if you want to use the default IIS location/port, if you choose a different location/port it will give you a different port number. I needed to do this after installing something on the server that did not seem to need IIS.
  25. To me it looks like the software on those older phones is still Android, its just they have hardware keyboards and different hardware, which lets face it has, its always been a selling point that you can choose different hardware in your phone if using Android.
