Yeah it was the same school that I was working it that offered me the job, the lads I was working with went to the head and said I was doing a good job and I got pulled in and was offered the job. I must admit I thought I knew alot about computers until I went into the real world and there was so much I didn't know (and still don't). I was shadowing the lads really watching, learning, changing the toners, I was always nearest the door going out and doing all the little jobs, fetching and carrying. The school after a few months allowed a 6th former to work with us to gain some experience so this took some of the load off me

I have seen two demo's of this now and it look's like a tidy little VLE and comes in with some good pricing. Runs on HTML5 with some aspects of java mainly for the web cam use so should work on all platforms. Internal mail system flags up any profanity to specific administrators. I don't think our primary schools will be using any sort of external mailing system purely the internal option. Drag and drop is available for images and videos but we were told this is better in Chrome or Firefox.

I initially started working a couple of days a week at a local high school whilst working in a supermarket. This happened for about 6 months and I was then offered the job full time. I only had a first diploma and a national diploma at the time. I'm sure you will find something, the school is getting a worker and not having to pay anything.

Problems running JAVA with out of date or expired version of JAVA
jonnykewell1 replied to kennysarmy's topic in Windows
we have some software that brings this message up because the java update is actually too new, we downgrade to an old version and it works fine, but this causes security risks so we have just had to say sorry but we can't do much about it. -
The senior technician blocked USB drives in my previous school using a combination of sophos endpoint and USBDLM's password facility. Was always abit of a pain especially if us technicians wanted to use our memory sticks as we had 2 levels of block to bypass. USBDLM only allowed about 10 exceptions in it's .ini file too so for certain people who we allowed access to devices we were limited. As mentioned above memory card readers were blocked, printers with memory card readers built in became a problem and sound recorders for oral exams. You would then need to provide some sort of solution for staff to transfer files from work to home and vice versa (for this we used home access+), and you always get certain staff members who have gigabytes of files that they MUST have so it gave us a whole load of extra work transferring files for them (only after virus scanning the drives) which took an age. :-)

if they are auto connecting to the wifi with the same SID does this mean that the person (assuming you think it's someone messing around) knows your wifi password to make it auto connect or do you think he has joined the laptop to the wifi himself? -
Moving away from LLN - how did it go?
jonnykewell1 replied to hallb15's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Hi will, Is this for users still on the LLN connection (the SLT) ? If so what would have changed if they are still on the LLN connection? when the username and password box first appears enter [email protected] and enter the password. Then on the next username and password box that appears change this to [email protected] then the password. This is what I used previously with outlook and worked every time. -
we make year 1 and year 2 use generic year 1 and year 2 accounts with the password as the name of the school name, then year 3 onwards get their own usernames but keep the same password as year 1 and 2

Go into tools, internet options > connections > LAN settings and add it in manually as a proxy exception. Then try it again see if it works. As mentioned above IE10 uses GPP only for internet settings so you might have to re jig things.

Teamviewer Alternative
jonnykewell1 replied to Marc_Lemar's topic in Network and Classroom Management
How about buying a licence for AB tutor just for your machine and then installing the client across all of the machines at work, then you can take control whenever. As for home you could use http://www.join.me , all they need to do is give you the 9 digit code provided from the client on their machine and you can then gain access to their machine for free. -
How can we get the best out of our rubbish netbooks?
jonnykewell1 replied to reggiep's topic in How do you do....it?
This is something I am going through at the minute. we have a trolley full off fizzbooks and I am in the process of building a new cut down image for them. It's Windows 7 32bit sp1, about 4 pieces of machine based installed software and the rest points to either a server based install or a couple of education websites. I haven't put the blue dolphin software on as that slows them down tons. It's just a matter now of capturing the image and sending it out to the other fizzbooks and make sure all the drivers get picked up OK as I originally had problem with the acceleormeter driver not rotating the screen. -
No worries, It's not something I have used before but this could be where you find it on plesk 9.5: Log into your Control Panel. Click on the Home tab. Click on Domains. Click on your domain name. Under the Files section, click on the Virtual Directories icon. Click on the Mime Types tab. Click the Add Mime Type icon. Enter the file extension as well as the Content.

just got this from another website - This is a MIME issue at the CPanel level. To fix, go to CPanel and find the "MIME Types" option probably under "Advanced". Click MIME Types. In "MIME Type" enter application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.wordprocessingml.document In "Extension(s)" enter docx Press "Add" button

Locking Down Google Chrome

we do exactly that, it might be that you need to get to the settings just to see what is configured even if you can't actually change it as staff or students. -
Moving away from LLN - how did it go?
jonnykewell1 replied to hallb15's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
hallb15 - speak to user themightymrp he is using office 365 and is still on LLN and it seems to be running well at the minute, he's had a few issues along the way which he now might be able to help you with. -
Hi all, I have just set up a fog server for the first time. I selected the hard drive in hyper-v to be expanding. Everything seems to be up and running I can remote in and create images etc on the server. When I go to capture my base image which is about 25Gb it gets to around 8GB mark which was the default size I believe of the virtual hard drive to start with and it says image complete. If I log into the fog server I get warnings about low space. Surely this shouldn't be happening. I have tons of space on the main physical server for the virtual hard drive to expand so I don't understand it. Can I manually expand the disk to make it work or will it mean also expanding the partition on the Ubuntu server? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I just managed to fix this if anyone is interested. Go into device manager go down to system devices and expand the menu. Locate the accelerometer driver right click and uninstall. Reboot the machine. I then reinstalled the platform abstraction package (intel learning series drivers). After that had finished I rebooted the fizzbook and worked fine. Mine are only 1Gb of ram but seem to run ok. Trying to put as little software as possible on them though as you say.

I have just installed windows 7 32bit on one of our fizzbooks for a deployment image I am making. I have finally found all drivers but for some reason the screen won't rotate. Anyone else had this issue and if so did you find a fix for it? thanks in advance.

The only good thing about the chrome sign in page is that staff can instantly access their saved bookmarks on the go as soon as they log in

sorry I totally skipped the part where you mentioned whiteboards in classrooms. For that it would be a pretty good idea but i'm not sure in terms of moving classrooms how the user account side of things would work on the software if it's paired up with a machine.
