Hi All, since the summer we have an issue with our Smart boards across school not keeping calibrated. We've checked permissions on folders and registry but nothing we can see has changed from the previous year. We do a clone each summer that gets sent out to all machines, and I think something must be on there that is interfering that wasn't on there last year. Have any of you come across any software that might cause problems with smart boards. Maybe even a windows update? We've re installed and even tried newer versions of smart notebook and product drivers which still doesn't seem to fix it. Can anyone recommend something to try? Thanks

Chromebooks not connecting to wireless
jonnykewell1 replied to dcwhitworth's topic in ChromeOS & Cloud Based OS
Just found this online might be worth a try "Hi, According to current information, I think it related to name squatting. For windows clients we can protect DNS records via permission, only the computer who register the record has the permission to update it. But this mechanism doesn’t work for non-windows clients. You can enable DHCP name protection: Open DHCP console tree>Right click Scope>Properties>DNS>Configure>Check option Enable name protection. The root cause is that you have name conflict among these clients" could be worth a shot? -
I've had this before when the computer hangs installing a printer driver. Remove any assigned printers if you have any and try again.

The headphones from Canvas VLE came in handy on the train home. Very PC socks are great as are the gloves from SIMS. Although 2simple seemed to think that their keyring with a trolley token attached was the must have freebie. I'm not so sure.

The apple account says I must enable two step authentication on the account. That's great but one of the IT co-ordinators at the school want's me to teach her how to deploy the apps. This is going to be fun as without my mobile phone there she won't be able to log into the account and vice versa should I set it to her phone.

Sorry if there are a number of different posts relating to this but I can't find the exact answers I need. Feel free to point me in the right direction. We have a charging/syncing cart of 15 ipads which I have been asked to get up and running as it wasn't working. I have prepared one ipad with all the settings I want and created the backup in apple configurator. We have 1 itunes account for the school and this has the credit card attached should we need to buy any apps. I have downloaded a couple of free apps and pushed them out to a number of the ipads, some however seem to get stuck on "waiting to authorize apps" and display "not charging" (does this matter) I've read that this can be down to licencing of the apps but they are free. I also read on another post that I should make sure my macbook is authorised with the apple account and log in and out of the multiple different areas within the software and reboot the ipads. This still doesn't seem to sort the problem. which makes me think... Is there a limit to the number of ipads I can use with the 1 school account? One of my colleagues mentioned to me that there could possibly be a limit but all I can see with regards to this is 5 authorised itunes accounts per device not a specific number of devices per account? When purchasing apps, I thought that you would be able to use 1 itunes account linked into a VPP account, buy say 15 copies of an app, assign the spreadsheet to a designated account and then push it out to the ipads? Is this right? If someone could help me out with this it would be much appreciated.

Cheap server room monitoring - temperature etc
jonnykewell1 replied to tj2419's topic in How do you do....it?
We have a device that goes into a plug socket. It holds a standard sim card and when the temperature hits a certain number it will send you a text message to warn you. @IrritableTech should be able to point you in the right direction? -
I too have been getting these letters for a few months now. Our finance assistant sent payment with the wrong order number, but we managed to trace the transaction, the date and provide the correct order number to resurrect the problem. Since then I have heard nothing but still keep getting the letters.

Very Urgent Cannot access course resources

If you Google that error it takes you to a Google Support page. Lot's of people have left comments on there and Google have fixed it a short time later. Might be worth a try? Google Apps Support -
I've just started supporting a school that use Iris and we have an Internet proxy. I've contacted our LEA to check the smoothwall to see if anything is getting blocked as when we set up an observation the video preview screen is black and connection fails. I'm pretty sure everything internally is set up correctly in terms of Using IE, add the website to trusted sites, java and flash versions etc..

We do a survey a couple of times a year and score them out of 10. if they get to a 4 or less we look at replacing the unit or the bulb depending on the age/warranty status/bulb price. We also have the problem that if the bulb still works no matter how dull it is, they won't swap the bulb if it's under warranty until it has completely stopped working. We too have now gone down the Casio LED projector route, they cost us more but come with a 5 year warranty and we haven't had any issues to date (touch wood)

with it running an older firmware, have you tried it with an older version of JAVA? -
We have an MMC snap in for group policy installed on a 2012 servers desktop which connects into our 2008R2 domain controller. we use this purely for the IE10+ GPO's. All other GPO's are edited on the 2008R2 Server or via MMC from my windows 7 machine. To get the latest GPO's to show up I created a policy definitions folder in \\server\c$\Windows\SYSVOL\domain\Policies and all the admx templates are in there. Now when you go into group policies preferences you will see the option for Internet explorer 10 and you can then add in the settings you require. All your old policies will remain in place, untouched. If you want to have a chat about it, feel free to drop me a message. I did this for our machines over the summer.

Speed of Sky fibre optic for home
jonnykewell1 replied to Novalee's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
I've been with Sky Fibre for about a year. Started out at 38mbps for about 4 months then dropped to 25mbps but seems to run at more like 8mbps (upload speed unchanged). Had an engineer out who messed around with a few things and got it sorted. A couple of weeks later it dropped. Got them out again and another engineer spent quite a long time back and forth to the cabinet and got it back up to 38mbps. Now after about another 3 months it's dropped again. Surely if it work's fine for months on end and then stops it can't be something to do with the distance I am from the cabinet as I would have expected it to slow down after about a week? I'm sick of ringing them now. -

Has anyone had any further issues with regards to IE11 and smart software? I'm having issues with smart board calibration on a large number of boards since the summer. we rolled out ie11 over the summer..so i'm wondering if it could be related.

Ok guys I have an odd one here. I've just set up a new domain controller at my primary school with server 2012r2. This server is also the print server and only has 1 photocopier installed a Konica Minolta c452 Bizhub. I'm using the PCL C652 series driver as this covers multiple models. I'm pushing out the photocopier with a script which is one we use at my secondary school and I know this works fine. My windows 7 64bit laptops just won't connect, download the driver and install when connecting to the server. If I choose add printer browse the network and try connect to the photocopier it just sits at connecting to printer then fails with "cannot connect to printer" error code 0x0000000a If I choose to add by local port, enter the IP address of the copier, then browse for the 64bit driver from the servers desktop, it installs and then prints with no problems. There are only two drivers assigned to the printer, both the same version but one 64bit and the additional 32bit driver. Firewall is switched off on both client and server just to test if something was getting blocked, I've stopped the spooler, cleared the drivers from c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers but still nothing. Has anyone got any ideas what could be stopping this connecting through the server? It sounds like it can't decide which driver to pick. Thanks.

First because you have spaces in the script, try enclosing it in speech marks otherwise it will stop when it gets to a space. It needs to stop after web data" then I believe you need to type the full path again but with what your replacing it with so... Rename "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Web Data" "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Web Data-old" - - - Updated - - - oh looks like I was beaten to it lol
