LogMeIn Free shutting down January 21st 2014
jonnykewell1 replied to sonofsanta's topic in General Chat
that's a good point, will join.me still work if it uses the log me in client? I haven't seen anything from join.me about this. Our new ISP will provide us with VPN access when we switch over so it isn't too bad, but for now we need an alternative. -

[ms office - 2013] Changing Default Save location for Deployment
jonnykewell1 replied to wroberts's topic in Office Software
The only real way I can see you doing this easily is with mandatory profiles. Make the profile, change the default location by going into word>file>options>save, specify the new save location in here and then get all your users to log on with the new profile. Looking online you can make certain changes by pushing out a registry key but it seems more to be related to the cloud storage option and doesn't mention changing it to mapped drives. -
Step 1: Open Printers by clicking the Start button . Step 2: Then click on Control Panel. Step 3: Then click on Hardware and Sound. Step 4: Then clicking Printers. Step 5: Right-click the printer that you want to remove, and then click Delete. If you can't delete the printer, right-click it again, click Run as administrator, and then click Delete Can not remove printer in windows 8 - Microsoft Community

@Fazza when you export your files, how do you do it? Which format do you export to? Do you have the cabled version which plugs into the POE switch? We can't understand why our audio and video gets worse as the video goes along.

do you guys experience any issues with the audio/video sync when recording? we just sent ours back to classwatch and were told that the only option available to us is to upgrade to the wifi version which includes it's own router (additional cost) or they send it back to us as it is. Apparently all units are configured exactly the same.

Galaxy S3 back to Samsungs Firmware from Cyanogenmod
jonnykewell1 replied to abillybob's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
I've just put cyanogenmod on for the first time, runs so much smoother than the official roms, does anyone know if there any apps that would allows me to stream additional media from the phone to chromecast? Or is it the chromecast firmware that locks it down. -

If you are using cisco switches you could use VTP to spread the VLAN'S across to the other switches, then enable pruning so only the VLAN'S needed by the specific switch are shared.

can you ping out from the machines to other computers/switches?

Webanywhere - what do you think?
jonnykewell1 replied to dantheitman's topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
we had our moodle with them at our old school. Always seemed quite helpful to be honest, sometimes a tad slow in dealing with the requests but always got through to their tech support. Before upgrading to moodle 2 they provided us with a demo version which we could log into and show staff to help them prepare for the upgrade. I don't think they were too expensive either from what I remember. -

jonnykewell1 replied to localzuk's topic in Educational Software
We were reading on the SMART support website that they are in talks with adobe and in the next flash update this should be fixed. we've had exactly the same problem here. -
@themightymrp was asking me about the same thing with Python the other week. not sure what he came up with in the end.

Does anyone know of a company who will collect old kit for free?
jonnykewell1 replied to L3OUGH's topic in Green Computing
01302376494 enviro electronics doncaster They collect for free and also give us some money back if it's of any value. -
so if that's all that's on it can you not detach the VHD. I'm sure it won't take long for someone to come to you and say something isn't working. Do you know where the VHD is mounted from so you can easily remount it?
-
can you map a drive letter to the VHD so it appears in computer and see if you can identify any of the files on it?

Smartboard calibration issues
jonnykewell1 replied to rickjames's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
Might be worth taking it down, switch the controller for another controller (if you have a board the same elsewhere) and seeing if that works, just rule that out. -
Have wix improved for apple compatibility these days? When I had my website, because it was flash based it didn't work at all. They made a mobile friendly solution but it wasn't perfect. I do like the ease of use of their design interface though.

Recommend me a good B/W laser printer for IT classroom
jonnykewell1 replied to tj2419's topic in Hardware
Samsung Ml-3710ND are working well for us, Samsung ML-3710ND Mono Laser Printer (ML-3710ND/SEE) - www.misco.co.uk we just sent back a brand new HP p3015 as it was having phantom paper jams. If I opened up the Toner door and closed it again it continued. Reading up online this seems to be quite common on some modern HP's. -
oh and that sixth former now has my old job as I have moved on to another school.
