I'm sure they didnt used to be there but I have words in posts highlighted with with hyperlinks that when hovered over show a windowed advert (ads by Powerlink), can I get rid of these as they are irritating me! I've downloaded something I presume as I'm sure Edugeek didnt have any before or is it I have just not noticed theme before?

Just thinking about the kerbos Tcp issues that may explain the mapped drive not available as that folder was on Server 2003 and all the ones that mapped were on the 2008 R2 server, seem plausable in my mind anyway.

Non existant drive changed to new location on other server and that surprising works! Same place in script just the server name changed so cant see what caused that. Will have another look at the later driver tomorrow and the fix suggested above to see if there is any difference. As I said I have a similar network setup at another school, Ruckus etc but on W7 so will see how that is doing in the morning. The school with XP is due to change to all W7 in the summer (so long as I get the images sorted in time!) so all may be sorted with that, will know if the above fix works. We are a primary school, so having a combined DC\file server is not something we can get away from any time soon. I feel we are lucky with what we get and yes, getting Ruckus was not cheap (cheaper than I expected though) but have to decide priorities and where money needs to be spent when it becomes available and as mobile technology was becomming a priority I pushed for a proper WIFI network rather than bits and pieces, so a storage server would have to wait.
-
I will give that a whirl in the morning, thanks.

Its been a loooooonnnnng day.

Happens with all nebooks, no other laptops to try, script change was as a consequence of noticing the error, scripts work fine on PC and netbook if using cable just not via WIFI. I did the upgrade (wish I hadnt now) so may involve a downgrade till its sorted. All netbooks are xp, bust justvdone same upgrade at another school where we are W7 so wipp check netbook connections there in the morning and see. Just seemed strange that one drive to an old server was not available via wifi yet was via a wired pc using same script.

Have a strange problem, I have a Ruckus WIFI network which has only just been updated to the latest version and now coincidentally the netbooks have started hanging for an absolute age on the startup scripts message on startup (Windows XP), I'm at a loss at to what is going on and would love any suggestions. Netbooks seemed to be working before all the Ruckus upgrade so things seem to point that way but dont know what. All the PC's are logging on fine so I think an issue with the startup scripts themselves is not the problem (they have not been changed other than see below). One thing I did notice on the laptops when I logged on was that a drive mapped to a folder on an old server (was the DC but was demoted a while ago and now just a PC with server installed no services etc) was now not available yet if I went to a PC that mapped using the same script I could browse it! I have since moved that folder to the new server and edited the script to point to the new folder) which when netbook does eventually log on it is now available. Hellllllllllllllllp!

Got a W7 PC on whic the printers keep dissapearing or look as if they are there yet are unavailable. Refresh the screen, they are gone, restart Print Spooler, they are back but cant test them as next minute they have dissapeared from view again or report them as error not available when I do get chance to select it. Thought about removing the printer, but when its there I click to remove the device, they dissapear and its still there when the spooler is restarted and I refresh the devices and printers screen! Are there other ways to remove certain printers as I think it may be just one thats causing the issue.

Just got it blocked here due to inappropriate content as we are a primary school.

We have 30 of the v2 tablets bought last year however I am now getting complains of poor connections etc. does anyone on here who has these tablets also have Ruckus? As far as I can see and check out with speed tests the Ruckus is working fine so thinking that its just poor WIFI on the tablets? Going to get the Ruckus updated to the latest version just to makes sure no issues. What do others think of the hardware, I know the software is a great idea.

We now use the option that all have the same desktop, was roaming staff but found same as you..issues, so took executive decision to go same for all. No problems or complaints and thats since September.

Surely that depends on if the suite is being used to its full potential. Having an empty suite when they are in is not a good idea but it tends to happen as some teachers either a) don't want to risk anything going wrong or b) feel they have to teach one of the basic subjects in class, teaching to the tick list. At one school, it was muted that the ICT suite was to be phased out so rather than having allocated slots its just open to grab on a booking sheet and that seems to work better and looking at the sheets shows the suite is well used. It allows a little freedom and also allows people to have their set slots if they still feel they need to. I think the focus really needs to be not do we need an ICT suite but what are we actually teaching in the suite, too much time its just used to 'copy' up work and depressingly when I look through folders quite a lot are just Word documents.

Hmm now theres an idea, will have a cache pilot comming spare in the summer, maybe stick a large drive in there with FreeNas or I also have an old server I am flattening and rebuilding to use as WSUS that I could I suppose stick a large drive in as well? The server did have a large drive in at one time but as usual that failed on me as well a while ago, fortunately just a day after I had transfered everything off it as it was starting to play up! Thanks for the options, will look at Buffalo see what the purse strings are like. Did see a while back that the Iomega were not designed to have their HD's removed and if you did manage it they were difficult to sort out.
-
No as usual that depends on the price and how quickly I say the words when I ask for it! Got any links to that Buffalo?

Very interesting that, if you get the chance again, can you take some photos of exactly which wires etc, would be very helpful. -
We currently use an Iomega iStore NAS which had (note the 'had') Two 1Tb drives mirrored for system backup. Just noticed one drive has died and its now running on just the one. Currently also backup to a separate HD on the server itself as a bit of belt and braces etc. Dont want to push fate so what options out there do I have as a replacement for the Iomega? Remember the main title, we are a Primary school so money is of the usual tight kind. Total backup at the moment is about 250Gb but we have about 2Tb of storage space available to be used.

Yes thats the procedure but unfortunately it eventuly stops doing it, i.e. you can hold the arrow key for ages and nothing happens, no beeps etc, and yes I have beep turned on in the menu. I have had it work but now have to press ok that bulb life expired...teachers getting used to doing that now untill we replace them with Casio LED ones.

What about "Drawing for Children"? Free Downloads : SEN Teacher ~ Free teaching resources for Special Needs. -
Yes it does exist, used it myself when advised to by Kyocera support. As said iy you are not carefully it can delete other files, just check which ones its highlighting and make sure you just select the Kyocera files.
-
We have a Kyocera MFD, fuser is a known issue and the 64bit driver does not behave itself but we just mainly use the 32bit driver which has so far been fine.

At my two scbools, one taken decision to not provide and the other to provide.

Thanks, at the moment I have Stop Motion Pro at one school and may get Zu3D at the other. SMP is good, does what it says on the tin but Zu3D has more features just a different colourful interface and bits kids can get distracted with, but then again I'm looking at it from an adults point of view not theirs, money is on Zu3d though at moment when they fix it so that the place it stores animations can be set to a network share rather than My Docs, next release apparently.
-
Hi Just in the process of looking at Zu3D as a possible animation software option, has anyone had any experience of it, especially how it gets installed on a network etc.

Hitachi ED-A100 Lens door error and door won't close.

Had that on a few of those, one was repaired as still under warranty, one repaired at quite a cost and one which was written off due to cost and age of that projector. Still like them though although tending to get the LED ones now.
