I've arrived back here after leaving Education last summer for pastures new. Ended up landing a job as tech support with the NHS! Bit different but wish I had done this earlier rather than sticking in education (teaching and tech) thinking it would get better! Anyway guess what, ended up back on this forum finding out why a users clipart was not working, got here via Google and thought I recognised the user image...Witch! Found the solution so its EduGeek to the rescue again...saving the NHS now!

There should be a light displayed from what I remember, try another power supply, any so long as its right spec, thats what I did and hey presto it worked.

At my last school I had these installed and they were great, only had one problem and that was BNIB, turned out to be power supply dead, I know its obvoious check but do try, I missed it as just assumed it worked as it was brand new.

SMART Board 4065 interactive flat panels
TechSupp replied to CADA's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
Just adding my two penneth, if its dead spots I found that cleaning out the chanel around the edge and the corner sensors with a non scratch cloth, then reset the screen did the job for me. Found the solution in a Smart document. Had a few teachers complain of areas where it wasnt writing etc, did the clean and reset, hey presto, working as it should again. Worth a try. -
Tried that and unfortunately the website views fine, had made sure it was unblocked anyway, but Earth still gives me blank pages. On panoramio it works fine so may just get them to use that instead. Still like to know why they don't show up in earth though?
-
Have installed Google Earth but when I click on the icons along a route to look at photos people have added, the screen pops up but its blank? Any ideas what may be stopping it displaying the photos? Google Earth seems to work fine other than that, but unfortunately that's the feature they are after! Just noticed as well that the screen tips do not display at startup, the screen appears but where the tips should be its empty.

Thanks for replies, have put a surge protected adaptor on see if that makes a difference. If it requires anything else that will be going to builders as its a new build extension from last year so someone else can pay!

Got a couple of new build classrooms that the two teachers say their PC's keep getting BSD. Have swapped PC's and still got issues. Got same PC's in other school classrooms and no complaints there. Only thing I can think of are that the power supply is causing issues, i.e spikes etc Could power spikes cause BSD's? Next option as far as I can see is to put a surge protected power bar in and see if that makes a difference...any other thoughts?

What was that using Timbo343? Macrium or Clonezilla?
-
Will look into Macrium thanks. Tried clonezilla last year but didnt work then read it had issues writing the image to correct place on SSD.
-
Think I have asked this before but cant find it! I need to image a PC (just a single one not a whole batch etc) whats the best software to use (free). In the past with normal HD's I used Clonezilla but when I looked into doing this with SSD's found it wasnt compatible. What would the learned masses suggest. What I want to do is Image to a USB drive then reimage from the USB drive to the new machine.

I need to delete a folder from users PC's that a program creates but the folder has sub folders that are not empty. Anyone got a good way using vbs to do this. Had a Google around and not found one I can get to work yet. This is the root folder "C:\Program Files\DEECD\data" and it had a sub folder with sub folders and a couple of files.

Well just when I thought it was safe to enter the water again.....now I need to delete a folder it creates on startup, looked at GPP folders but the options just seem to be delete if it is already empty and these are not. Any ideas?

We want to use Chrome as a browser for access to Education City activities. It works fine in IE but just tried it in Chrome and although the main site loads up fine, when an activity is selected it appears matchbox size at the top of the page. It looks to be a flash based activity (its up to date on the PC) and although matchbox size it is working! Any idea what needs to be done. Have had a look at the settings in chrome and we content is set to 100% already.

I hold my hand up and say I remember those things! I left school in 1980 and had done two years of computing by then. We had a telephone link to the local collage and used to use a punched tape machine to prepare code before either running it over the phone or having a trip to the collage and creating the punched cars in big wads to....calculate the are of a triangle etc!
-
Tried that and couldn't get it to work with the %system32% but could with the path created on the server and selecting it...however...I also had to add the program files folder it uses as well. Seems to work OK now thanks.
-
Brilliant, I'll go and try that. Love the software title, as far as installation in a school its accurate!
-
Thanks, does that mean the client that it is required on or the server I am setting the GPP on?
-
Update time: I managed to get the folder I wanted created with GPP and even got it to replace the existing shortcut to my customised one but the software still wants to have access to the folder it needs in System32. I tried running it as administrator via a vbs script which it now runs the software but when I come to open or save files in it, it does not show the mapped drives, so back at square one! How can I allow users to have access to the folders I have created in system 32 that the software needs to access preferable via GPP (instructions how to do it would be nice for a Monday )?
-
Thanks for the quick reply, will do that on Monday.
-
Thanks, will have a look at that. As I have already ployed the software (oops, yes I know test first!) can I add the setting to creat a new folder to that existing policy or as it has deployed, will I have to create a new policy for it to apply?

I have a good comic program for the kids but as usual it does not like our network security. Unfortunately it wants to create a folder in System32 which security wont let it do...so...my question is...has anyone got a vbs script that I can run at logon that will create a folder in System32 at startup? Probably a simple task but easier to ask first! also I need a script to delete a shortcut link that it has installed on the desktop as I want to replace it with a customised one.

Do you consider "WWW" and "The internet" two separate things?
TechSupp replied to Duranis's topic in General Chat
Does it matter....yes it does if they are teaching the new national curriculum! They should be teaching the difference to the kids...as well as the staff.
