  1. We have our proxy info as part of our Group Policy and normally this works just fine but just installing a new bunch of PC's and have one that is refusing to take the proxy setting, I can add it manually but it does not pick it up from group policy. the other PC's have picked it up fine so I know its working. Have looked at Gpresult and its applying, all other policies are applying, installing software, mapping drives, setting background etc its just the proxy settings! Anyone got any clues. Have already, deleted its domain account, re-added it to the domain, checked its in the right group etc Forgot to mention, it does get the default home page but fails to load as no proxy settings are set!
  2. Thanks will keep that in mind, have now got two virtual drives. It more a belt and braces kind of thing. I have regular full backups done to storave already using windows backup which works fine but wanted storage I could backup certain areas i.e pupil files with more regular backups as dont have enough room to do multiple full backups (although I do have 2 sets of backups at moment in two different places cor safety). All this came about when needed to investigate some files in a pupils folder and found little there, more investigation found there had been little there for a while but she didnt say they had gone missing! Not enough backups going far enough back meant I couldnt retrieve them unfortunately.
  3. Due to backup size I need to create a VHD on our backup unit. I have gone into disk manager and from actions created a VHD of the size I want but following some instructions on the web the next step it says is right click the newly created VHD (its listed in the drives but not shown as initialised) and select 'initialise'? When I right click the new drive I don't get that option. Anyone help what I do next or how I initialise it or why it does not show that option? Edit: Forget it...Doh! moment...didn't right click in right place! Needed to rick click on Label not the drive space itself! Friday moment!
  4. Thanks, two questions: How do you create a virtual drive? (sorted this one now, did a quick google!) Do you have a copy of the robocopy script I could use?
  5. So, so long as my backup vhd does not exceed 2tb I'm OK? Its backing up 2 x 2Tb drives so I can do each as a separate backup but onto the same 4Tb drive and be fine then? Going to 2012 is not an option at the moment.
  6. Bummer, just got a Buffalo TB dri e for back up and we are on 2008 R2! Oops! Definately keeping an eye on this thread! Is it the windows backup that is the limitation or the device? Work around anyone? Windows explorer sees the drive as 4TB.
  7. Further questions! How do I know what users have logged onto the minecraftedu server and how via the client logon do I stop more that one user logging on with the same name? Totally new to all of this! This is all in the offline mode.
  8. that's a good question? no idea if we have, just went off what used to be there before they changed it recently. Will check that out.
  9. Got Minecraftedu installed and running as a test here at the moment, have looked at the settings file when it loads and have got to show just minimal things i.e. the start minecraftedu button but when I click this it then fires up another screen to be clicked before it goes into Minecraft. Can I get it to automatically pass this second screen so its just, click shortcut on desktop which opens launcher, then launcher just starts Minecraft? Edit: Its OK found it!
  10. Just logged into our new EES agreement and looked at what was available and its now vastly reduced to exactly what we have, now that's not the problem. I thought the EES allowed us to have the latest version of any product we subscribed to? I have Server 2008 R2 (which we run) but now 2012 server does not appear on the list in the download section. Is that right? Sure before this current agreement started I could see al the versions of the software available. If I wanted to upgrade to 2012 how am I now fixed?
  11. Thanks but that relys on me having a network management card which I unfortunately dont. I'll just ha e to manage with the main server having a nice shutdown, the other two servers are not mission critical, woukd have been nice but cant justify more expenditure at moment for niceties. Pity APC could not have made it clearer that management cards were needed, or at least I couldnt see where it said so. Thanks all for info.
  12. Now what would one look like? Presuming to manage other servers I need it or them?
  13. Hope someone has come across this before, Just installed an APC SMT1500 Smart UPS for our main server, connected power and USB, installed software, agent, server, console (Powerchute Business Edition that it came with) and software finds UPS fine and monitors it. However, I also plugged the power for the other two servers we have into the UPS, can I use the software on the main server to manage those as well as it seems to indicate so by saying I can install the agent software on other servers but how does the software link to the other servers. There is only one USB port on the UPS, but there is an RJ45 port but cant find any documentation saying what to do with it! Another issue is that the console on the main server reports that I need to configure 'UPS Outlet groups' but when I click on the link its just brings up a page that says "this page cannot be displayed"?

    Air con

Only just got AC in my new server room, first time we have had anything apart from leaving a door open! Set AC to 22 and have a digital thermometer on top of server which has been registering 22/23. May nudge AC up a touch. Where I sit I have a blade server running under the worktop, it puffs hot air along underneath and it comes up in front of me, whilst the AC is mounted on a wall behind me so back gets cold! Room is now two snug fire doors away from school corridor so found I can have music on and no one can hear but me 😁
  15. The success of the delivery of the NC is not what technology you have but what skill/knowledge/confidence the staff have to deliver it. My suggestion would be keep the suite, always useful. We are a primary and in KS1 we have a small set of tablets and each class has 4 PC's and in KS2 they have the main suite (32), 20 netbooks and small set of tablets. Both KS1 and KS2 also have session in the main suite each week. I know a school that is mainly ipad and they say they deliver the NC with no problems. Quite alot of the NC can be taught in the classroom without a PC surprisingly enough but again this comes down to teacher skill/knowledge/confidence.
  16. Just got it on one network connection at moment and its picking up ip from main server dhcp and all seems fine. Problem seems to have been that I had the spare server running first and then fired up the curriculum server.
  17. Thanks for the suggestions, it has dual network ports and both plugged in (or were plugged in!), it was a fresh install of 2008, no roles assigned. Will give the cards static ip's just to make sure I know what its getting. Update: Just thinking, could it have been that I had both network ports plugged in at same time? On main server when spare server was plugged in (with both cables) I could see two instances of Hercules (which I presume is correct as two ports and two IP's), anyway, given both ports a separate IP now and will just plug a single one in and see what happens.
  18. No it has a totally different server name, curriculum server is Goliath, spare server is Hercules and main server ip is static and the spare server was getting them by dhcp from main curriculum server
  19. Background is that I have a spare server with 2008 R2 installed and I want to utilise this server, probably for minecraft. Now I installed 2008 and didn't select it to have any roles I,e, DHCP, DNS etc as I didn't want it to conflict or cause issues. Now had this server turned on an on the network when I moved our main curriculum server to the new server room. Booted curriculum server and something conflicted as couldn't get clients to log on, server network just kept saying it was trying to identify the network etc. Unplugged spare server, rebooted main server... all back to normal, so its something that the spare server is doing. Its not even joined to the domain, just left it as a workgroup at the moment. What do I need to do to allow the spare server to sit on our network without causing issues?
  20. Could you post up the instructions how you installed it and set it as default? Got to do a similar thing here.
  21. When fully occupied I think our school is due to allow 700 pupils max now we have had the new bits added. That room took some doing to get it agreed and convincing about the requirement for the aircon. Key was a document on small server room cooling from APC I think it was saying what was required for particular heat outputs. After that it was a matter of keep pushing all the time to get what I wanted...as far as possible. Shouldn't really matter if the school is primary or secondary, its what is required that counts. Fortunately we have risen out of the server under a desk stage...went to servers in a cupboard after that....but has taken 10 years and a new building addition though!
  22. Happily used @ICTDirect_Dave before.
  23. Been a while but just thought I would update this thread, here is my new server room, getting to move in on Monday. Not the biggest of rooms but I'm not complaining, its a room and its bigger than the current one....and I now have air con!
  24. As usual I recently saw a brilliant website that allowed you to edit the data numerically in an image so that you can change its hue etc just be manipulating the numbers. Anyone any ideas where I saw this? Not the best of descriptions but if you have seen the site you will know what I mean! My memory is failing me fast!
  25. Found that ClonEzilla does not like SSD's as I tried it and it just errored. Something to do with how it sees the SSD/creates the partitions.
