  1. Well got a solution for the multiple accounts issue, have one account, register a device with that accounts, get the books to that account then manually download and install via USB to each Kindle. Not the best solution but at least only involves one account to manage. Thanks for the current suggestions, well feed back any info I get.
  2. Does the Fire have proxy settings?
  3. Mentioned on a thread a while ago that we had been donated 25 Kindles which fortunately have built in 3G (free) and WIFI so that gets me over the school wifi connection/proxy issue, however coming up against other issues. Speaking to my Amazon contact she seemed surprised that we (technicians as a whole) were having issues with them and could I feed back any of the issues/comments so they could review them. Below is my current list, please add anymore you can think off...and I've not used them yet! WIFI - No proxy settings so most schools cannot use the Kindles on WiFi if they require these settings Limit to how many are registered on one Amazon account (advice was to set up 25 accounts! or split between about 5) Require credit card details to create the accounts - We as a school don't have one! Got anymore Gotchas? Currently trying to set one up as advised with my own Amazon account so I can play with it and check it put (and also see if when registered it actually connects to 3G which at the moment unregistered it does not so have had to drop it onto my home wifi which I didn't want to in the first place!) but it just gives me 'internal error' when I put my details in. I somehow knew this was not going to be straight forward!
  4. Oops! You are correct, that's me not reading it correctly. Interesting all the same.
  5. Maybe a possible solution but some have had issues getting rid of the file. There does not seem to be one fool proof quick fix (notice I said quick fix, the ideal way is to use the suggested MS folder structure I know). Not gone that route, used the file resource fix, works just fine here but others have had slow logon issues. Be interesting to see what others who use your method think.
  6. Has anyone had any experience of IIYAMA Interactive screens? Just had a quote for one and not had any experience of them apart from seeing them at BETT. Looked at the spec and it does not say what wattage the speakers are so don't know if I would need to budget for extra sound bar as well?
  7. We have just been give 25 Kindles (which with much relief are 3G and not WIFI phew!) Now the question is what do people use to store/charge the Kindles. We have laptops in LapCabbys and tablets in steel Loxit cabinets, but wondered what others use as I onow if they are just given out they will either never get charged or the charger/cables will get lost very quickky (or tge Kindle go missing!).
  8. Has anyone used the above app to look at coverage etc on their ruckus network. Just done a survey with it but not sure what I am looking at! Talks about showing levels of confidence then using those values? Online manual does not give away much detail.
  9. Been using AB Tutor here for about 2 years now and no problems with speed, been really good. Few niggles setting up with DNS but 'reading the manual' and speaking to their tech support sorted that out. We have two masters set up, one in the suite monitoring that and one on my tech machine looking at every PC. Like you we are a primary and for the cost you cant go much wrong. Like said have a free trail first, thats what we did.
  10. Hmmm ah well looked promising anyway,
  11. Thanks, but after more research it seems the key is that transparent proxy will not service https requests correctly so could not get to the amazon store etc which is what I need. However I have read that I possibly could set up and use mitMproxy with a certificate manually installed on the Kindles may allow it to work....but that's a big 'may' and as I have not got my hands on a kindle yet I can't try anything out. Seems some uni in states needed certificates installing this way to allow them to access the wifi.
  12. Well, thanks for the detaile reply and better understanding now and from reading further looks like sticking with 1, 6 & 11 is the way to go. From your suggestiins, 1, tried and reason we now have fixed channels 2, not going to happen due to time, and comeback if anything happens however unrelated! 3, too much existing kit on 2.4 to just dunp it 4, more sucess spitting into the wind! Does not leave me many options does it 😭 thanks for the info anyway.
  13. Many thanks, toes now at hone and toasty...sweets will not help my calorie counting..but...its friday and they dont count on a friday do they! Many thanks for the Socks and mug 😊😊😊😊
  14. If you see my other thread we had simikar issues and the autoscan for best channel did not work correctly so ended up fixing the channels on each AP due to the issue you have, overcrowding in same channel from local BT home hubs etc. Switching channel fixed ours except I everyone is on 1, 6 and 11. Did ask question could I use channels inbetween the standards without problens and how many channels to leave between adjacent AP's of ours.
  15. Just a thought yesterday, but wondered when people actually change projector bulbs, do you leave it till they blow, do it when a teacher complains of brightness, at a certain number of hours have passed or when you notice that the board is a bit dull? Due to cost I usually leave it till the teacher complains enough or it blows, so just wondered what criteria others use.
  16. forget, what I just posted in my reply, realised it didnt make sense!
  17. Yes it should do, but when we first had it, it caused issues so it was set up with fixed ones.
  18. Linking onto my other thread about Kindles and Proxys what options do I have to getting them on the Internet so they can get to the Amazon shop? Realise that one option is to have them taken home to use a non proxy connection but that's not ideal. What other options do I have, transparent proxy is one but not sure how difficult that would be to set up and at what cost. Just when I thought it was safe to poke my head above the parapet, this happens! Of course they will want it all sorting ASAP
  19. Hmmmm...well that beggars things up a bit then!
  20. New APs are not an option and the current ones are Ruckus and are dual band, problem is all our devices are 2.4 and also not likely to be changed.
  21. Just heard we are to be supplied with about 20 Kindle PaperWhite from Amazon, can someone please tell me that I can set a proxy on the wifi connection! Have looked around on here and found I can set it on the Fire and Fire HD but don't know about the PaperWhite as its just an eReader not a tablet as such. Going to be interesting if I cant set it. Looked at this a long time ago and there was no way then but don't know if things have changed.
  22. Could you sum it up for me, its blocked here!
  23. We are right next to a housing estate and our wifi gets crowded on certain channels 1,6 and 11 which happens to be the ones our AP's are set to. The other week I changed the channel of one AP away from a crowded one (due to terrible performance) which resulted in much better performance of our AP. Now found out another AP along the school is now on the same channel as a lot of the close by routers. Can I use the other channels in between and if so how many channels should I leave between adjacent AP's.
  24. Just wondering now if its user error, after writing the reply I click the 'Next' button that appears at the side, now just wondering if after that I have not clicked the arrow to actually post it thinking that the next button had done it. Have we always had the Next button?
  25. Maybe its not me then! Funny thing was, the post I did about three times that never appeared, was a post in reply to one of yours about the powerline adaptors!
