Yah, Week cant start any better, tester confirmed one of the wires was an issue, looked at back of patch panel and could see straight away which one it was. Re terminated it, tested it and PC back on fine Now the week is all downhill from here till Friday!
-
Trouble is as I only work part time people end up comming and going without me knowing! 😠
-
Unfortunately my tester only tests continuity on each wire. Have redone the end at the wall not at the panel yet. Yes had people in, started playing up after the summer. Its not used that often and has been hit and miss with connection but when it has its been 10Mb so maybe a duff connection or broken wire.
-
Thanks, I'll get my cable tester on it and see if that shows up anything.

I have one machine that started playing up with connecting to the network, as usual waggled the cables and all worked fine...or so I thought. Its now very temperamental in getting a connection and when it does it only connects a 10Mb not the usual 100Mb. Things I have tried so far, put a new network card in of a different type Changed patch lead from PC to wall socket Changed patch lead from patch panel to switch Changed switch it connects to Changed faceplate and connection socket on wall Connected PC to another wall socket and it connects straight away at 100Mb All to no avail (apart from last one) The only thing I have not checked is the wall socket to the patch panel, not got a tester with me today. If the cable has been damaged would that allow it to connect but at a lower speed or should it just not connect at all?
-
No sorry, not yet, as usual other things have overtaken it at the moment.
-
Tried that and works a treat, thanks

Thanks I'll give it a try, tried nested if's but not quite like that.

I'll have to check, and yes we have a Buffalo NAS Box.

I have a column of cells in a sheet with cells coloured red, green and amber and I want another cell to show if this is up or down by showing an arrow, i.e. cell A1 is Red, cell B1 will show colour index number, cell D1 will show a down arrow (formatted cells with WingDings3 - 6 gives a down arrow) I can get the colour index of the cell fill to get a number i.e. =ColorIndex(A1) would give 3 but I need to compare each of the three colours to show the correct arrow: if B1 = 4 (GREEN) then cell = 5 (up arrow) if B1 = 44 (AMBER) then cell = 1 (arrows side to side) if B1 = 3 (RED) then cell = 6 (down arrow) My best stab is =OR(IF(B1=4,5),IF(B1=44,1),IF(B1=4,5)) Cant for the life of me get it to work! All I can get is for the required cell to show a range of characters (when formatted correctly to read shows the word 'true')

Only using the backup utility in Server 2008, dont think it has that facility.
-
Had issues qith backups of late and came to pondering does anyone keep a record of each one done i.e. a signature sheet etc? We use batch files to create baremetal backups with the inbuilt server backup program, is there anyway to make it keep a record of when it has been sucessful or not rather than going through the backup program log? Just want to make it easy to spot when a backup has not run or failed for some reason.

Just an update, did try Recuva for what its worth...and it worked! Was only looking for some photographs so that cut time down. Job done, still no idea who deleted them if first place though! 😠

We had three members of staff leave at Christmas and someone in their not brightest moment has deleted the users folders which were on a separate drive on the server (No! that person was not me and no idea...well a few guesses... who did it!). Don't usually clear the folders off quickly just in case they have worked on something we need later...but hey ho someone obviously thought they knew better and sods law no backup of that particular area (don't even ask...that's Monday job), these are not vital folders but would be good if they can be recovered. I usually use Recuva on memory cards to get photos back etc but should it be OK to run on the drive in the server? or is there any other way of getting it back?

Well for first time in about 7 years dont think I'll be there [emoji26] Managed to get it to a stage of an overnight stay etc but with a new head, ICT team disbanded, budget taken off me, looks like IT support being farmed out...and may have to look elsewhere for teaching employment! the want to go has gone [emoji22]

SMART Board SB660 Alignment Problem
TechSupp replied to TecnoSam6's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
Presume you have calibrated the board using the Smart software? If its still not accurate using the max 20 dot calibration there is a higher dot setting but only accesible via the diagnostic program to turn that feature on, think.its zomething like 40 dots. Thats an old board though. Make sure firmware is the latest version it can use. -
Got some NC10's and some NB30's (got a couple of the Toshiba versions as well) and they have our standard image on them, work fine on the domain, OK slightly slower to log on but not had any complaints about them in a while. Our issues were wireless connectivity speed but once that was sorted they have been fine. Not sure we will get any more netbooks though, although would like to replace the couple that have died just to keep that as a full set of 20.

Has anyone had Chrome timeout? Last week had a couple of pupils say Chrome had just quit but didnt see it and tonight had a report tgat while some staff training was going on (ABACUS maths website) they had a couple of PC's that gave a session time out message, again didnt see it as was elsewhere.

Quick WSUS question on that KB, I did a search for the KB and said to not install to stop issue, now they have deployed a fix with same KB, if I search for it again, will it find the new one or will I risk setting the old one to install again?
-
Maybe I'm being dim today (stop shouting out at the back!) but when I try that command for 32bit it says it does not like the tilde? 'C:\windows\system32\DISM.exe /Online /Remove-Package /PackageName:Package_for_KB3097877~31bf3856ad364e35 ~x86~~6.1.1.1 /quiet Error: 87 DISM doesn't recognize the command-line option "~x86~~6.1.1.1". Don't seem to have had anymore issues since I fixed the ones affected and declined that update in WSUS.
-
Is that script just for 64bit PC's? that could be my issue (if it is whats the change for 32bit?). At moment I have removed it from WSUS, then I am going into the PC as a repait PC option, restoring to a previous time (which for some reason it says eventually it has failed to do), then allowing it to restart, when it starts it says it had a problem starting, leave alone and it then comes back as normal.

Just been hit with this here as well, not all are affected it seems at the moment, thanks MS! Anyone got a good solution to this yet. We dont have the ctr-alt-screen, just straight to login screen, all we get on affected PC's is a pre logon screen that just sits there and flashes, cant even get in with safe mode...grrrrrrr
